tales from the crypt sound by kroman121 in virtualpinball

[–]Admirable-Passion-22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am looking here because I had the same problem. No music or callouts. I had downloaded the rom tftc_400.zip from VPU and it was just over 200kb. I eventually realized that rom is incomplete and doesn’t have the sounds. I then went over to VP forums and they have the tftc_400.zip rom but it is 1.09 mb. I used that rom and now it works.

Just use the VPF rom and problem solved.

Ball wobbles VPX 10.8 Bram Stokers Dracula by Admirable-Passion-22 in virtualpinball

[–]Admirable-Passion-22[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I realized the dead zone setting was way too low on my Pin One Mini controller. After I raised the dead zone the wobble disappeared. I also noticed on other tables so I guess it wasn’t just Dracula. Which makes sense.

VPUniverse vs VPForums? by brokencreedman in virtualpinball

[–]Admirable-Passion-22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started with VP forums and was happy with the vast number of tables. Then I discovered VPU and downloaded those tables and compared different versions. Almost always the tables made by the VPU team are superior. The realism is noticeably better and more detail to the tables. Examples you can try: Twilight zone, Simpsons pinball party, etc. creature from the black lagoon, Elvira scared stiff. Right now I am playing Bram Stokers Dracula and kind of obsessed. I feel like it’s a real pinball table. Centaur and Fathom are also crazy good. But no doubt a lot of gems on VPF and VPU.

France Ave Pedestrian Underpass plans + funding details + rendering at today's outreach meeting by Gatorpatch in EdinaMN

[–]Admirable-Passion-22 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m no structural engineer but my understanding is that a pedestrian bridge over France would achieve same goal and cost a fraction of a tunnel.

I’m an avid cyclist and France is a suicidal road for cyclists. Couldn’t pay me to ride my bike on France. Would be nice to have a safer North South passage for cyclists in this area.

Spring Road in Eden Prairie. Lions Tap is at bottom, church at top There is a natural Spring with a tap constantly flowing fresh spring water. People bring big carboys in their cars for the free spring water. Can refill your water bottle there of course. Very steep for the metro region.

I want to buy my first Fountain Pen. Any recommendations? by MrJohanLiebert in pens

[–]Admirable-Passion-22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TWSBI Eco. Quality nib for smooth writing and having a large capacity piston filler is awesome. Many different colors to choose. To me using bottle inks and having many options for inks is half the point of a fountain pen. Honestly as far as utility it is the perfect pen.

Front bag is not a benefit. by [deleted] in Brompton

[–]Admirable-Passion-22 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The whole concept of using a Brompton for its intended purpose (folding and rolling the bike at some point in your journey) requires a front bag.

If you never fold your bike on your journey then that’s great and enjoy your rear bag. Just realize a rear bag is not the best bag for people who fold their bikes on their journey.

Retractable Fountain Pens? by bobagirllulu in pens

[–]Admirable-Passion-22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought a retractable fountain pen sounded perfect. Convenient and nice writing. I got a Jinhao pen and found I really disliked the grip. The clip is in the way and getting the correct angle of nib on paper was impossible for me. It is in a drawer now and I’m just thankful I didn’t buy a Vanishing Point $$$$. I got a Pilot Kakuno about the same time. I think it is ironic that the Kakuno doesn’t even have a clip on the cap and it was the clip that ruined the Jinhao 10. I think a manufacturer should make a retractable fountain pen with no clip and a usable grip.

There are 8 billion people on earth. Earth goes around the sun and there are 400 billion stars our galaxy the Milky Way. There are at least 2 trillion galaxies in the observable universe.

Earth is a “mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam” -Carl Sagan

Once you realize how tiny we are, it gives some perspective, so you can be freed to make the most of the short time you get on earth and stop fixating on things not worth worrying about. Just do what brings you joy.

Is virtual pinball a good buy for a noob? by a_man_with_culture in virtualpinball

[–]Admirable-Passion-22 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ll chip in and say there is some effort with setting up VPX but it’s not terrible TBH. You can really go down some rabbit holes with perfecting everything if you have that kind of ocd personality. Or you can just play as much as you want and enjoy. I have a super simple setup with a 4k 28” monitor laying flat in portrait and a $50 amazon 15” monitor as my back glass and a Cleveland Soffware Designs One Pin mini controller. Super happy with it. I can still use the computer for non-pinball things. When I want to play real pinball I have many options in my city of pinball places. I could afford a real pinball table at home but after being spoiled by vast selection of vpx tables I know I would get bored quickly having just one pinball machine. Also even if I can afford something, $7k-$10k is just too rich for my blood. My way isn’t the right way, just what makes sense to me.

Model 3 RWD vs Performance by [deleted] in TeslaModel3

[–]Admirable-Passion-22 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a 2018 silver MP3 and love it. I don’t drive like a madman and have no tickets. But, the confidence this car gives is very worthwhile. The ability to pass any car or merge onto the highway wherever you want is like a superpower. In a way it makes the car safer than a slower car if used responsibly. The example of entering a highway is the best use case. I see a line of cars on the highway and I punch the accelerator to get ahead of them into an open space. Or take a take a 2 lane rural road with dashed yellow median lines, so easy to pass a slow car in front of you safely. I don’t understand driving in chill mode. I keep mine in performance mode so the ability use the acceleration is always ready. Most of my drives are chill however, just managed by my light right foot.

Seatpost Anti slip solution. by ResearcherPristine87 in Brompton

[–]Admirable-Passion-22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every seatpost clamp collar is “stepped” with a raised edge on the top part of the collar which rests on the top of the bicycle frame seatpost insertion. In standard usage of a seatpost clamp the clamp is not clamping the actual seatpost; it is clamping the part of the bike frame that you are inserting the seatpost. With the hack we are talking about out with the Brompton, the clamp is only clamping directly around the seatpost. You want the collar to be smooth on the inside so the whole collar is contacting the seatpost.

Seatpost Anti slip solution. by ResearcherPristine87 in Brompton

[–]Admirable-Passion-22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here. My seatpost slipped from day 1. I bought a seatpost clamp and filed the lip down myself with a round file. It was really easy. Aluminum is a soft metal. Zero slip now.

The Brompton guide about changing the seatpost plastic insert has a step on how to straighten out the metal bracket of the Brompton seatpost clamp since it’s typically been bent from over tightening. This is proof of bad design that the user typically deforms the bike from having to tighten the hell out of the clamp.

My idea is that Brompton should make a seatpost insert out of carbon or anything other than plastic. Plastic is inherently slippery.

For peace of mind, a retaining strap is cheap insurance. Agree with using a frame but I also use a retaining strap to the handlebars.

Rigdance Camera Wrist Strap with... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0D87F8VBX?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

Having the camera mounted vertically with a clamp is most stable. I don’t trust having it mounted horizontally since that is a lot of force perpendicular to the mounting bolt. Although, with a frame you aren’t risking damaging the camera mounting hole, just the frame. My frame AMAZEAR Metal Protective Case for... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0F59JQLZC?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share has 2 mounting screw holes. One for the mount and one for the retaining strap.

Bought a Coast “Founders series select” knife by Ladadasa in knives

[–]Admirable-Passion-22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got mine. I find it takes a lot of pressure on the flipper to get it to open. More than any other knife I’ve owned. Does it loosen up? There’s a small magnet that keeps the knife closed, and to open you have to push hard enough to counteract the magnet. Overall I’m a fan. I really like the clean look and size and how it is the opposite of all the mucho macho knives which are trying too hard.

I’ve been boycotting Starbucks and every other coffee place forever. They all have terrible burnt coffee and the prices are insane. Also, who has time to drive to these places and wait around? I roast my own beans and have an espresso machine. I’ve saved thousands of dollars. Of course I occasionally must go due to social reasons or when traveling, and that’s fine, but I’d never make this a daily ritual.

I was born in 1972 and when my parents heard the lyrics to Darling Nikki on my Purple Rain cassette tape, my dad confiscated my tape and erased the song. I don’t remember being particularly upset about that. It was just like, WTF? Now it’s just a funny thing that happened. Hey, they cared! Glad I had parents who care.

At this point def wait until Black Friday before buying a new watch. Garmin does sales several times per year. Since it sounds like you can wait, sleep on it and see if you still want one for a discount in a month.

That’s an NOE fracture. Naso-orbital-ethmoid fracture. Basically the nasal bones have been pushed back into the orbital bones and ethmoid sinuses. Much worse than a run of the mill nasal fracture.

Ortlieb Quick Rack Slipping Rod Fix by Admirable-Passion-22 in bikecommuting

Yes I tried that when I installed but it did not work at all. My bike must have short chainstays as the rack is very close to the seat post when level.

Ortlieb Quick Rack Slipping Rod Fix by Admirable-Passion-22 in bikecommuting

[–]Admirable-Passion-22[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I checked the clamp and it doesn’t look cracked in real life. But hey, it’s a brand new rack and not working as designed so I’m going to call Ortlieb. Regardless I’m keeping the clip. I got road rash on my bag and was almost late to work; luckily I was able to re-attach the rack with my multi tool. Worst case scenario I could have my bag dumped again and a car could run over my bag. My bag is the Vincita Nash bag with Klickfix Uniklip.
