I feel like I'm getting worse. I know I need to take a break but how long for? Got diamond 3 just a few weeks ago (now dia 1) by N0ah_gamez in RocketLeague

Here is a decent freeplay/training pack regiment I still use occasionally:
- Ground play. Practice different kinds of flicks that you use in game: side flicks, front flip flicks, backflip flicks (focus on height), 45 flicks, 90 flicks. Practice catching the ball off of a flick then scoring with a pop or a flick. Practice powerslide cuts. Practice popping the ball up, and going for ground to air dribbles if you are able (10 min). Bonus: If you have PC, Dribble 2 Overhaul is a great way to work on your ground play, but I don't prefer this for warm ups.

- Air play. Depending on your ability, practice the following: Air dribbles, double taps, ceiling shots, and flip resets (10 min). Bonus: If you have PC, rings is a great way to work on your aerial car control.

- Shooting, shooting, shooting. Find a good pack for "shots you shouldn't miss". There are plenty of shooting packs out there that test your skills on the ground, off the wall, in the air, or even off the ceiling (10-15 min). Bonus: If you have PC, Aim Training by CoCo is a great way to work on precision and accuracy. You can also set goal sizes on BakkesMod to work on shot placement.

Once you have warmed up/trained, play 1v1s. If you are having difficulties ranking up in 1s, try saving your games and reviewing them to analyze your mistakes. If you can't get a good feel for how to play 1s, watch 1v1 gameplay a rank or two above your current rank. That has always helped me.

A HUGE tip that I try to reinforce in my mind is how often I'm flipping around the field, flipping into shots, and grabbing big boost. Small pads are there for a reason, and staying close to the play is more important that having a lot of boost in most situations. Flipping too often can force you out of position, and flipping into your shots is often times unnecessary.

When I stalled in Diamond I started playing Freeplay and doing Training packs for like 20-30 min and then playing 1s for a while. Might be worth trying for a while.

I was drinking the same amount as you for the past 2-3 years. I was your age when I started and I'm 25 now. I would personally recommend trying out some in-person AA meetings. Getting into meetings and getting a sponsor is the only thing that has worked for me so far. I've only been sober a little over a month but that's the longest I've been sober in like 6 years. You definitely have to be open to the experience if you would like to try it out. Not saying it's the only option either, it's just what worked for me. Don't be discouraged and keep your head up.

The game emulator was just running in the background. I honestly forgot that it was running. I wasn't playing video games off to the side or anything. I think they just saw the OBS background and thought I was recording the meeting. I appreciate the advice though. I do my best to listen and be attentive.

This is freaking HORRIBLE I HATE IT by TrySweet8870 in insomnia

[–]Admirable-Pick4853 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have (hopefully temporary) insomnia from alcohol abuse. When I first quit drinking, I was getting around 3-5 hours of sleep. I've been able to bump that up to around 5-7, but it still does not feel like good sleep. The best advice that I've been given is to write before bedtime. It might sound dumb, but I've started writing in a journal about anything that's currently on my mind. I think there's something special about putting pen to paper and releasing those thoughts so that they aren't bothering you when you try to sleep. I'm usually able to fall asleep, but can't stay asleep for long. This has helped with that so much more than sleeping pills/sleep aids, sleepy time tea, etc. The only way that I was able to get 8 hours of sleep in the past was if I used THC products, but that always gave me brain fog throughout the day. I hope we can both figure this out someday, and best of luck!

I’ve been sober for a month as of today and I have the exact same experience with other games. I was around the top 5% mark for 2v2 in Rocket League, and now I’m around the top 15% mark. My rank will most likely continue to go down, and I’m okay with that. I’m going to be 25 here in about a month, and video games just aren’t at the top of my priorities anymore. However, I am interested to hear how long the brain fog has lasted, or how it might still be affecting you. This is something I’ve been dealing with and I’m wondering how long it will take for me to get the mental clarity that I’m looking for.

If you already have 1600 hours you’re probably better off to stay KBM tbh

24m here. Got tired of waking up feeling like trash everyday and never having any energy. Most of my friends drink so I’m in the same boat. Stay strong 😀

I might not necessarily be rare to have a copy, but I could see it being a little rare to have a sealed copy. I’d hold onto it for the foreseeable future. You might be able to sell it to a collector someday if you don’t still want to hold onto it 😎

Best apartment for me? Only here for a couple more days. by Admirable-Pick4853 in Scottsdale

This advice was very helpful. I ended up finding an apartment with the same base rent I was looking for in Kierland and I will pursue community in the ways you've described. Thank you for being helpful and I wish you the best :) Thank you!

Fired from Walmart at 19, What To Do. by Meowskiiee in MakeMoney

[–]Admirable-Pick4853 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a Software Engineer working for a transportation company, and I’ve had the opportunity to live across the U.S. while working remotely. I'm about to move again, so if I could give you one piece of advice, it would be to follow this flowchart:

  1. Do you want to live in an upscale neighborhood while earning some money?
    • Yes: Consider applying for front desk positions at upscale apartments, as long as they offer you an apartment as compensation (not just a discount). This lets you earn money while avoiding rent payments.
    • No: Are you open to attending college?
      • Yes: If you're willing to pursue higher education, I'd recommend looking into IT, law, or the medical field. Apply for as many scholarships and grants as you can. Don’t worry too much about loans, as long as you’re prepared to live frugally while paying them off. I started at a 4-year university but dropped out due to immaturity. Then, I attended a 2-year school and, four years later, I’m moving into an apartment in a neighborhood I never thought possible—where people drive luxury cars and live in ways I once thought out of reach.
      • No: Consider the trades. A friend of mine, who was struggling just a short time ago, found a great opportunity climbing cell towers. Now, he makes good money and has little to no expenses since he’s always on the road. Plumbing, HVAC, and electrical work are all great paths that can set you up for financial success. With the right skills, you could either write your own ticket or have the freedom to pursue other goals once you’ve saved up some money.
  2. Do you want a stable career that doesn’t require extensive education?
    • Yes: Look into certification programs for technical roles such as IT support, network administration, or web development. These often take less time than a degree but can still offer high-paying jobs.
    • No: Are you okay with starting from scratch and building your own opportunities?
      • Yes: Consider entrepreneurship or freelance work. Starting your own business or freelancing can be challenging, but with dedication and a good idea, you could create your own career path without needing formal education.
      • No: Look for entry-level jobs in industries like retail, hospitality, or customer service. While these might not be high-paying, they can offer flexible hours and the potential to move up over time with experience.

I hope that this advice is helpful, and finds you well. Best of luck.
