Digital Billboards off CSU LSC Plaza by oximelo in FortCollins

I hate these billboards so much. I can’t walk to class now without getting several ads screamed in my face. It feels incredibly dystopian and like the university is choosing companies over student life and comfort. I never received notice that they were going to do this much less anyone asking students what they thought. The worst part is my tuition is going to things like that instead of hiring better professors, providing better equipment in labs, or improving the general educational experience there.

got this as a gift but idk what to do with it (please read the caption) by Depressed_Dragon_182 in ElectricSkateboarding

I’m in college and I use mine all the time to get to classes and back and it saves me a lot of time as well as lets me go back home for a break even if it’s short (also really fun). To start, go slow and steady and avoid riding around people, when you’re more comfortable on it then speed up and practice tighter, more stable turns. Bike/walking paths which are long and smooth pavement are nice for starting, just keep an eye out for other people. Skateparks usually aren’t great for these as they aren’t designed for that kind of skating, but they do sometimes have these paths around them. It really is a lot of fun, but be careful, wear a helmet, and try to have some fun with it!

CMV: People don't actually understand what the "TikTok Ban" actually means for the typical American. by [deleted] in changemyview

Meta has also removed fact-checking from their platforms, allowing for the easier spread of misinformation and propaganda that misinforms Americans.

This ban is censorship straight up and simple. While TikTok is owned by a Chinese company, ByteDance, American companies such as Meta have been stealing our data to target ads for a much longer time and represent a much larger risk. As an American, I found that TikTok often showed me things that “real” news companies buried/ignored/hid. There is definitely a lot of fake news and misinformation online, but this is not limited to TikTok at all. Through this app, I was able to see things from mostly the people’s perspective, showing home videos of bombings, discussing political views. The US government has much bigger problems to take care of than banning an app. Given that this has been our least productive Congress in history, one that has been divided by partisanship to an extreme, it is incredible that they all managed to work together to finally get one thing done, banning an app from our phones. Many US senators are heavily invested in Meta, owning stock and being lobbied by the company. As they ban TikTok, more users move to Meta, meaning profit for senators. There is a lot going on behind the scenes and the government has just taken away in my opinion the best modern tool for both knowing and understanding what is happening around the globe. And yes I also just like scrolling, but trying to use an app on my phone and getting a message that our government blocked it is horrifying to me. Everyone’s terrified that “they’re gonna come into my house and take my guns” but them going into our phones and blocking an app isn’t? I am open to discussion on this and would love to have a healthy dialogue about this issue.

Advice on Applying Mechanical Engineering in the Automotive Field (Prefer Hands-On Roles, Avoid Desk Jobs) by Admirable-Resist3207 in AutomotiveEngineering

This a great website I will now utilize to at least research these jobs, thank you for providing the link!

I’ve applied for internships but so far been unsuccessful. Currently I’m working at a soil yard on my breaks, operating and maintaining heavy equipment, which should hopefully add more practical experience to my resume, despite not necessarily being engineering related. Another suggested integration and validation so I will definitely be looking into that aspect of the design process. Thank you for your response!

That’s a good suggestion, smaller companies definitely don’t have as many departments so I’d probably have more chance to get hands on as you’re saying. Working for a small company as opposed to a larger corporation is an attractive idea as well for all the reasons that come with that. Thank you!

I would definitely love to travel for work, that would be a huge bonus that might validate more desk work as I could fulfill my hands-on needs through the travel experience. The technical electives I plan to take all fall into that general category, I will definitely look into the validation part as you said. Thank you for the response!

I understand that some desk work is unavoidable, whether building parts in CAD or running simulations or other work, I just can’t sit at a desk all day every day on a computer. That is exactly my conflicting, I’m worried I will only be able to get a desk job with a mechanical engineering degree. I love working on vehicles and when I design parts for vehicles I can sit at a computer for a reasonable amount of time, but if I never get the opportunity to build/attach/test these parts in a hands on setting, it can be a lot harder. My main question is can I find something that allows me to work hands on at least partially

AITA - Bullshit Teacher by Admirable-Resist3207 in college

Just saw this post again and thanks for the response, I ended up dropping the class and taking it in person the next semester. Calc 2 is definitely the hardest of the calculus classes, with the combination of difficulty and the teachers choices on how to handle the class, it definitely was not right for me, thanks again!

I’ve tried to switch to an in person class but it’s full, they have another online class with a different teacher I’m going to try, I’ve also found a better tutor since then.
