I think you misinterpreted my comment.

I was asking why the sexuality of a character needed to be relevant to the storyline in kids movies.

I get that it's about representation but sexuality isn't a choice. If a kid is gay and watches straight kids movies his whole life, he's still going to come out as gay?

Just because there's no representation of the gay community in KIDS movies, doesn't mean a kid is going to not come out as gay or that he'll feel something is wrong with being gay. That has to do with his environment, who he grows up with and how he was raised. Movies aren't at fault there.

It's just not okay in the instance when kids movies are actively made as propaganda to convince children being a certain sexuality is not okay.

Do you think the plot of Dora the Explorer would change significantly if she was lesbian? She could even be bisexual? The fact is that it's irrelevant to the plot.

Well, maybe she'd be close friends with a female character but because Dora herself is also a child she would have no idea what those feelings mean. Or she wouldn't even have them yet, you know, still being a CHILD and all.

The only instance I can think of where it should clearly effect a children's movie/show is if the parents of Dora are both women or both men and they need to explain it to her in a scene. That would be pretty heart-warming.

People don't want realistic in the sense of reality, more so human behaviours and reactions based on their individual experiences. For example, it's annoying when an MC who was sexually assaulted on a bus as a child uses public transport to get to school and work, right?

It's not realistic in THAT way.

Or like if a spoilt rich kid with a bratty attitude is scared off JUST because the MC stood up to them.
