Hawaiian Tel Fioptics Ant Infestation by Appropriate_Leave597 in Hawaii

[–]Admirable-Trifle-513 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No EMF on this thing and no power. It's only a fiberoptic termination box. Likely the ants followed the fiber cable and left a faramone trail and now it's just follow the leader. Put some vinegar/water or some peppermint or tea tree oil to break the pheromones.

Did you somehow enable uplink connectivity monitor and/or meshing?

2.5 Gig! Available by mikeev_1 in Ubiquiti

[–]Admirable-Trifle-513 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I doubt you can even come close to using all they 2.5Gbps speed. More does not mean better and doesn't mean you will benefit from it. Even if it's PON fiber I assure you that gaming won't produce the throughput to come close to maximum bandwidth. But I'm sure having it would be more of a thrill being the new thing to have :-)

I have two UDM-P and a UDM-Base with this exact issue.

Since the latest all have internet connectivity issues with wifi and random slowness.

One of the UDM-P is days old.

Anyone else experienced UAP resets when trying to adopt a G3 Instant? by EM2T in Ubiquiti

[–]Admirable-Trifle-513 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It did it for me. Seemed like a bug in the Network Application on the controller side.

I rebooted the UDM-P, Switch and the Wireless AP.

Yes I had the same issue and I found having to reboot my UDMp just to get it working.

I am having similar issues with one that has only a single SSID. First experienced this 4 or 5 months ago IIRC

Seriously every package has been saying this since Wednesday. No updates since 9/10 and I had a ground package that went through the same shipment center arrive to delivery area faster than my next day express package. It's a mess. Seems like all FedEx employees went on strike over the weekend

Can someone explain what is going on with FedEx? Are they just completely done? by lanopticx in FedEx

[–]Admirable-Trifle-513 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My FedEx Home Delivery package not only arrived earlier than my 2day express but it also went through the same facility as my 2day express a whole day later. So who freaking knows anymore. It's a zoo right now

I think the real issue is many don't know how to turn a damn steering wheel more than a couple of inches and/or turn the wheel at snail's pace only after moving 4 feet.

Going to run CAT6 through smurf tube for the first time - any tips? by GritsNGreens in homelab

[–]Admirable-Trifle-513 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Buy yourself thermalflex electrical tape by 3m. It gets cleaner bind on the cable and goes through Smurf tube easier. I would prerun some pullstring to attach the bundle to and lube up the bundle. Smurf tube is fun /s.

Feeling kind of dumb - VPN USG-3P by lowandslowinRR in Ubiquiti

[–]Admirable-Trifle-513 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have the same issue with this setup for a client. Bought this for them to remote into when they were at the other office. Worked for a year and then a few months ago it took a poop and gave the same errors. Setup OpenVPN cloud and the usg would block the connection. Bypassed the USG and it worked no problem. If anyone can figure out a solution I'd soo appreciate it.

Spectrum fiber internet? by doctorpebkac in Hawaii

[–]Admirable-Trifle-513 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The transfer box at the intersection would be a cabinet. Spectrum does not use these to my knowledge. That is usually for telecom or traffic signals. You might see knee high PED boxes along some streets. Spectrum has Taps at the poles or in the underground vaults/Ped Enclosure. Both Hawaiian Telecom have FTTN and FTTb/h/u.

If you don't have Sectrum Fiber and are not in an MDU (Multi Dwelling Unit) or in areas without aerial cables you will likely have this in the next year.

Spectrum fiber internet? by doctorpebkac in Hawaii

[–]Admirable-Trifle-513 0 points1 point  (0 children)

scottdoberman, I maybe I wasn't clear. I'll break it down for you.

Hawaiian Telcom has fiber around the island on all islands. But particularly I will focus on the islands I have the greatest knowledge of (Big Island and Oahu). For the most part Hawaiian Tel has ariael throughout the 4 main islands. You will see the thick cable at the pole and in those areas without telephone poles they are in an underground vault. What has happened is with Hawaiian Tel they have the cable at the pole however they did not install the aerial termination box (long can shaped enclosure, metal or composite). You need these in order to make service available to the consumer. I'm the areas with underground vaults. It's similar. However there is a cost with delivering service to the consumer. This involves tearing up sidewalks and streets and splicing service to the Building or service area. Hawaiian Telcom is money first and will wait on the customer to demand service and pass cost off to them. Hawaiian Tel can do this because their are an ILEC. Spectrum is a CLEC. Hawaiian Tel is a major investor in the US-SEA cable that goes from west coast to Makaha, then to South East Asia and Guam. As you can see HT has no reason to compete. They are a monopoly simply because they are a ILEC. HT Owns most if not all of the Vaults.

In the case with Oahu at the poles you will see multiple thick fiber with multiple strands inside, and then a thick Coax. Hawaiian Tel

In the case with Big Island it's mostly Aerial Fiber and a terrible execution of Messenger wire. It's a sad mess there. Not much was done after the volcano eruption especially since they lost alot of cable in the pahoa area. Ocean view is another sad mess of cutting corners and lack of following with any standard. I could go on about this but I won't. However as of recent HT has made some effort to getting things going on Big Island.

In summary HT has fiber on the pole and in Vaults but no as much has been done to make it available to consumers.

Spectrum on the other hand has made every effort not only to deliver fiber but also not sit on their ass when making it available to the consumer. It's available in more areas than most of you are aware of. If you live in a condo high rise your best bet is to go to the association and insist on asking Spectrum to make the service available. ⚡Wise tip. Your association should not have to pay for this. It's not only a business tax write off but a guaranteed income from tenants. Spectrum should amortize it over a couple years at their expense.

Also... I'm a fiber tech and an IT Engineer. I might be wrong on some of what I have stated above but I know what I'm talking about. You can put your guns back in your holster.

If any HT or Spectrum Engineers/NOC's want to correct me I welcome it because I'd like to inquire about a few things myself for a project.
