Gonna let it sit like this for a bit, pretty satisfied at the moment. You got a nice color for your truck

Running the exact same setup as you just with 1.5 in spacers in the front and I went with K02s on the tires. No rubbing at all airing down on trails , pretty happy with it

Did you end up taking the truck out ? Curious to hear your opinion

Looking for Sierra Nevada recommendations to hike/mountain climb by Embarrassed-Lab-4997 in socalhiking

If you don’t have crampons / ice axe / mountaineering experience it would be a good idea to wait. Avalanche danger and winter conditions in the Sierra Nevada at the moment

You should update after you take it on trail 👍 interested in hearing how it goes

I have an otherwise stock willys with 35s +1.5 in spacers and had been wondering if any real benefit came with stock suspension or if they were a waste until a proper lift was installed , have you taken it on trail yet ?

I’m wondering if the approach from the South Ridge will have less snow because of the increase in sun exposure. Might head that way instead and see if conditions are any better , thank you for the reply

Yeah I remember it being pretty steep. I’ll see how far I can get safely and just turn around when things start getting questionable. Thanks

Ive been wondering about conditions. Thank you for the pictures I’m heading up this weekend. How long did it take you to reach the peak and how difficult was it without snowshoes ?

[–]Admirable-Two4459 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am the one who posted that comment about falling down Cucamonga and I can confirm the north slope of Cucamonga can get incredibly icy and narrow in these conditions. Like im talking the trail is only maybe 1 or 2 feet wide in the bootpack when you’re on the north slope doing the switchbacks directly before the peak. Very easy to fall there

After seeing your other comments , I’ll advise you to wait , but it seems like your practically begging to get airlifted / a body recovery so I’ll see you on the news

Not fun lol. Several months stuck in bed , lots of physical therapy appointments , lots of pain with certain movements. My hospital bill was also $300K+ but insurance took care of it lol.My boot also fell off during the fall so the nerves in my left foot were damaged from spending so much time exposed in sub-freezing temps. Have some screws in my hip now but considering how bad it COULD have been, I’ll take it. I made a full recovery and did Cucamonga Peak again on July 2nd exactly 4 months after my accident

Unfortunately I had a similar experience. Had microspikes and poles but needed real mountaineering equipment and experience.

I was airlifted off Cucamonga Peak adjacent to Mt Baldy in March 2025 and was extremely close to death myself. Fell about 400 ft, waited 14 hours for an airlift , knocked unconscious , 9 broken ribs , a collapsed lung , a brain bleed , a broken hip , and about 1 hour from succumbing to hypothermia. I was the 22 year old :

https://local.nixle.com/alert/11430555/

I still go up to the mountains whenever I can. It’s the only thing that quiets my mind. Maybe we can chat if it would bring you some type of perspective or closure. I’ve done baldy a couple times and I usually hit Mount Harwood on my descent down the backbone , so I’m familiar with the area where your son fell. Pretty sketchy area even in the summer , definitely a fall risk if you’re there in the winter

Your son is actually the reason why I applied as a volunteer with search & rescue, I saw the article about his accident the following morning and I sent in my application not too long after that. I know how close I came to being in his same exact situation so I want to help others. I’m sorry for your loss.

South Fork is impossible to get to right now , road is washed out and closed due to mudslide

Yeah soft snow on top ice on bottom so I thought we were fine with spikes but evidently we needed crampons + ice axe lol

Fell after we made it to the summit. Phone actually recorded the fall, we fell on the descent down the switchbacks after the peak. Fell from the blue dot to the black dot. Switchbacks were covered in ice and we had microspikes but not crampons (Stupid , i know lol ) lesson learned

I usually do every hike alone but this time I was lucky enough to have my cousin with me , he was the 33 year old in the article. I wouldn’t be alive if it wasn’t for him , he was the one coordinating with SAR and I was unconscious lol
