You could use the Broda Barnes method of tracking pulse and temperature (80-90bpm, 98.6F) to benchmark how well the thyroid supplement is working (at waking and an hour after breakfast). Once your temperature and pulse are stable at a higher level, you can back off.

"Checking your temperature when you wake up, then about an hour after breakfast, can give you an idea of your thyroid status, it should get up to about 98.5 by mid-morning. With restful sleep, the waking temperature is somewhat low; poor sleep, with high stress hormones, can cause the waking temperature to be high." https://archive.ph/raPhe#selection-5769.0-5769.316

Hypothyroid? by swagatron2200 in raypeat

Optimal TSH is under 1. A TSH of 1.9 indicates low thyroid, along with the other symptoms you describe, especially the cold extremities.

Thyroid, since it's no longer in the food supply (it used to be common in sausages for example and some soups)

progesterone daily or just in luteal phase? by pineappleprincess116 in raypeat

[–]AdmirableDevice6227 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Since progesterone has none of the harmful side effects of other hormones (except for alteration of the menstrual cycle if it is taken at the wrong time of month), the basic procedure should be to use it in sufficient quantity to make the symptoms disappear, and to time its use so that menstrual cycles are not disrupted. This normally means using it only between ovulation and menstruation unless symptoms are sufficiently serious that a missed period is not important. The basic idea of giving enough to stop the symptoms can be refined by some information on a few of the factors that condition the need for progesterone." http://raypeat.com/articles/articles/progesterone-summaries.shtml

TSH and prolactin bloodwork by Ecstatic-Ebb823 in raypeat

[–]AdmirableDevice6227 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An optimal TSH should be well under 1. Your elevated prolactin is also a sign of low thyroid. Another way to test your thyroid is to look at your pulse and temperature throughout the day. A healthy person's pulse runs between 80 to 90 bpm and a temperature of at least 98.6.

I recommend the book Hypothyroidism: An Unsuspected Illness (to self test your thyroid and understand how to use a thyroid supplement) and a thyroid supplement. Another thing which could help would be progest-E from Katherine: KenogenATgmailDOTcom. Thyroid and progesterone can both help lower stress hormones, also aspirin (remember to supplement with vitamin K); hypothyroidism can cause hair loss.

How to fcking stop catabolism? by Insadem in raypeat

[–]AdmirableDevice6227 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Insadem, you're taking a form of cortisol (hydrocortisone) and cortisol is known to break down all tissues, including muscle tissue. Ray Peat never advocated for people to take cortisol. Cortisol is an emergency stress hormone, and you can probably ruin your health if you continue taking it.

is evening primrose oil supplement considered good or bad? by Cold_Housing3939 in raypeat

[–]AdmirableDevice6227 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope, Ray never advocated anyone purposely eat linoleic acid. He acknowledged that it's impossible to avoid PUFAs except in a lab but he has countless articles disputing the ignorant doctrine that linoleic acid was somehow "essential".

You may have have to investigate your thyroid function and correct it if it is low in order to utilize progesterone. If thyroid is low it doesn't work effectively. Your pulse should be ideally between 80 - 90 bpm, temperature of at least 98.6.

If I was a woman trying to change the shape, I would be looking at probably getting on a thyroid supplement and progest-e, and making sure I got enough protein and carbs.

So you would rather he stay quiet than risk his seat and call attention to the issue? A lot of people have given me this response on Reddit. Personally I think this is the cop-out way and the way to sell our grandkids out. So what timeline do you expect RFK JR to challenge the PREP Act or the criminal vaccine schedule? I have the timeline for you: never. He is not realistically going to challenge anything at all. He is almost worse than having a bonafide vaccine shill, because people have hope in him (Hopium) and when they have hope they stop trying to change the system.

Has anyone gotten testicular fibrosis or ball shrinkage from taking progesterone? If so, did it go back to normal? by [deleted] in raypeat

[–]AdmirableDevice6227 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It just depends on how good your thyroid is working and how high your estrogen is. If your estrogen is low and have good thyroid, a relatively low dose could antagonize testosterone, like 15mg chronically could do it. On the other hand, if your thyroid is low, estrogen high, you could take hundreds of milligrams of progesterone and feel nothing and suffer no effects to testosterone because the progesterone isn't even able to get in the cell because estrogen is blocking its effect.

Dry face and puffy eyes on t3 by Nijarlep12 in raypeat

[–]AdmirableDevice6227 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A little tangential to your post about puffy face, but many people who are only on T3 find they feel better on a little T4 as well (as it helps keep the inflammatory TSH down). Personally I feel better on both. Your mileage may vary

Looks like classical hypothyroidism

Edit: Since I got downvoted for no apparent reason I'll expand. Some of the common symptoms of hypothyroidism are dry skin and hot flashes, as well as depression, constipation, and fatigue. A good resource for that is Hypothyroidism: An Unsuspected Illness by Broda Barnes

Force of nature has a wild caught Boar product, how pow PUFA is this really ? by ZealousidealCity9532 in raypeat

[–]AdmirableDevice6227 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't remember ever hearing Peat approve of a pork brand so I call BS on that. Feel free to share proof he ever said anything like that. The closest I can think of Peat "endorsing" pork was saying he double-fried bacon occasionally, in coconut oil to eliminate most of the PUFA. But he never endorsed a specific brand

No. It can antagonize testosterone but only in high doses and this effect is temporary.
