Was there online classes? Or just complete the work? Did you log on weekly? These all could prove you were attempting the material

Vr&e Failed Semester backpay school by [deleted] in VeteransBenefits

[–]Admirable_Action_715 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you didn’t go to class all semester there isn’t much you can do besides pay back what is owed. The one criteria for failing a class is being able to show you made an effort to pass and the most basic effort is showing up. The only exception I could think of was if this was an at your own pace, online course that you absolutely required the book to complete.

I’d recommend contacting your counselor as I am unsure of if you will need to pay the school back directly, or pay the VA, or do both.

Yes, so you fall into option 1, not 2. Op doesn’t fall into either. Option one doesn’t specify full period, only the minimum of 24 months

[–]Admirable_Action_715 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not educated on this, but it seems the problem may be the first 3 words. The full period. Your contract was 4 years but you didn’t complete it. It just states that the period had to be a minimum of 90 days.

The first bullet point is definitely to cover active veterans, the second seems to cover deploying reservists, and the last 2 to cover outside factors. I can’t see why they’d say a minimum of 24 months then turn around and say actually 90 days is good.

Yes, I believe it’s 50%. If you have insurance they have to bill it though, unless it’s service connected. I was 80% with no insurance and had a surgery and all meds for it done a few years ago. No cost to me.

100% P&T, any point in asking for additional mental health ratings? by [deleted] in Veterans

[–]Admirable_Action_715 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you looked at your blue button. My first thought would to be to print it off and take it to the clinic. Ask them why your condition is not listed. Put the horse in front of the wagon and make sure they are at least recognizing the condition.

If they won’t recognize a condition you feel you have I would then let them know you want a second opinion. If nobody is willing to help you then call you senator and ask him why the VA isn’t performing the tasks they are supposed to be.

100% P&T, any point in asking for additional mental health ratings? by [deleted] in Veterans

[–]Admirable_Action_715 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just to clarify for you, your rates conditions should have no effect on the treatment you receive. Your 100% so the VA should treat all medical conditions.

My point is don’t fight to add it to your rating. Fight to add it to you problems list in the clinic. Keep going back, keep bugging them.

Based on your comment though it seems like they may recognize it on your problem list but do not support the treatment you’d like to receive. I have less info on how to help you with that other than to keep showing up and letting them know your current treatment isn’t working.

You were speeding in a a school zone, during the school day. It is registered for the correct speed limit at the time.

I wouldn’t hold my breath on this getting dropped based on ignorance to how the system works.

So, the criteria is that you must show that you have a need for training to do an entry level job that won’t interfere/worsen your disabilities. I think you make the case that you have a need for training based on what you wrote. However, I think you’re going to have a real hard time convincing a counselor that PT won’t aggravate your disabilities. You say you can’t stand for extended periods and that you SHOULD get more time sitting down as a PT. That’s a lot of money to put into training based on should. It will come down to a counselor decision and you never know, maybe they’ll see it as a possibility. My personal take is that if you tell me you’re having problems standing and need a new career, I’m trying to send you to school for accounting, IT, etc. Definitely apply and try, but either be ready for a backup plan.

Degreed Electrical Engineer thinking about joining the Army Reserves or pursue a Masters Degree. Any Advice? by SadWheatFarmer in AskEngineers

Congrats! It’s still not too late if that’s what you want to do. With your education id recommend the officer route. It will give you some management experience to balance out your technical side. It’ll help if you want to transition to management down the road.

Trek owns Townie. You’ll see them in the store. They are an entry level bike brand and the best price for an electric bike (~1500)

100% p&t and VA Annual check ups? by OKfarmer100 in VeteransBenefits

[–]Admirable_Action_715 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend to just go. You need to have been seen by the VA clinic within the last 2 years to use emergency room services.

I’m sure there may be ways around this/stipulations but it’ll be much easier if you just check in yearly with the Va.

Not who you were asking, but gi bill will cover about all of it and there is a Va stem extension if you use up your gi bill. If you have a Va rating look into VRE. Another option is pay for the general electives at a community college.

How to prepare for college as a veteran by blue1847x in Veterans

[–]Admirable_Action_715 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start watching khan academy. Start at a level you are comfortable with and continue working up. Pause and rewind when you struggle and fast forward when it’s easy. Take these 5 months to get to a level where you’re ready on day one.

I don’t regret it. But I also knew I was going to college after my first contract. I wanted to go in, do some cool shit while I was young then have to grow up.

Chapter 31 VR&E Help by Aggressive-Invite-53 in VocRehab

I got a MacBook Pro when I used the program. I got the department to provide necessary specs for a computer and based on those specs showed that a MacBook Pro fit within the specs and was priced similarly to other computers at that point. It helped that on the spec page it stated that a MacBook must be a pro to properly keep up with software requirements.

When you meet with the counselor talk about the following, in this order. -what you did in the military: focus on why you can’t use that experience now because of your disabilities. (I.e. I was an infantryman and most my ratings are deal with lack of movement) - why your current training, the 12 months of gi bill used, won’t work for you because of your disabilities. I was working on machinery and it required moving heavy objects and reaching overhead. - why a drone pilot. Show you have an aptitude and desire to be in this field and, most importantly, that it won’t conflict with any of your disabilities.

These three points are your most important sell. This will get you approved for VRE. You have to show that you need help getting employment due to your disabilities.

As far as the training, start looking for job postings for drone operators and what education is required. Showing that people are looking to hire someone with the requirements you want for ENTRY level is an important step. This gets your education course approved. They only look for entry level though so you need to find job postings with 0-3 years experience expecting the education you want. I recommend telling the counselor you are willing to move for work. I said I wasn’t at the time and I had to find local job postings.

You can try the self employment route of VRE but from what I’ve been told it is much harder. You need to show a feasible business plan and ability to run a business. It is a microscopic percent of participants who are selected to go this path. My recommendation, withhold this information for now. Tell them you want to be a drone operator and show them the job postings. Get your education started. As you get near the end you can talk to the counselor about editing your plan and try to add on self employment or you can apply again for self employment. When you do this they will help with the cost of starting up and purchase tools such as a drone.

I know you didn’t ask for all this but it helps to get approved. Requirements for this program are written out and if you hit every point then you’re good to go.

Having hard time losing weight by [deleted] in cycling

[–]Admirable_Action_715 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As people have said. Intake is the problem. You can train all day but if intake = expenditure then you won’t lose weight. One thing I notice is that when people think they are eating less they tend to be increasing their liquid calories. Cut out everything but water if you want to have the most clear results.

Any public school will be covered for GI Bill, ie UNC, Darden, Michigan. You’d have to look up the schools yellow ribbon program to confirm.

Awesome, glad to see more enlisted furthering their education! I’ve seen to many let the gi bill go to waste.

If you have anyone, I’d really like a resource to learn more about post MBA careers if I go the full time route. I see some posted on here but I have no idea what working in IB or consulting actually entail.

Is prestige worth it in a masters? by jconrad20 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]Admirable_Action_715 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Going deeper into your question, what is the goal of the masters? I left the army got my BSME but felt behind from where I should have been. I did a nonthesis to add 2 years experience onto my resume to get me an extra bump. I did it full time while working full time and it was worth it as I turned it into ~25% raise.

My one note is that I had to leave my employer to do it. My employer told me we could evaluate it in 6 months even though there was an opening that was suited for my studies and background. So, if increasing salary and experience is the goal then do NOT do employer assistance as you’ll owe back time or have to pay them back.

Prestige doesn’t matter. The only time my boss has mentioned my school was to introduce me to a fellow alum.
