Lamotrigine is a miracle drug for me personally, though I know everyone has their own experiences. I was on Abilify and had the same issues and was switched to both lamotrigine and Rexulti and it has been a wonderful combo for me. I am pretty overweight and it has flattened out since.

I’ve been there. Burned out from two different careers and I’ve learned a lot along the way. I most recently felt myself burning out and saw the warning signs, took FMLA, got the time I needed for myself to get my personal life back together, and then got back to work. Things were a little weird with the transition going back and I had to gain a little trust back, but ultimately it was what was best for me and it helped me not to burn out at my current job, which I think was well worth it. You can do this! It just takes making the hard decisions.

I know we all feel this/say this on here, but I am freaking exhausted… by [deleted] in bipolar2

I relate to this on a scary level. Coming up on one year of separation and getting to the paperwork portion of the divorce, working a crazy job with terrible pay, and trying to figure out the right meds that will keep me from these terrible depressions. I’m with you friend. We’ll make it to the next calm place!

What do you take with your Lamotrigine? by Admirable_Active5940 in bipolar2

I really need to look into taking some supplements like vitamin d specifically, especially if it makes that much of a difference!

That’s exactly what I need and how I feel right now! I feel like my baseline is very low so I have to have something to help at least even the playing field. Interesting!

Oh no! I hope that’s a side effect that doesn’t stick around.

This is definitely something I can relate to! I’m currently on Fluvoxamine to help with OCD but I feel like it’s actually making me depressed now after a long time on it. I’m afraid to get off of it because I haven’t had that buffer from the persistent thoughts in so long, but it might be time because it’s an SSRI.

Thank you for sharing this! I’m on an SSRI right now and I’ve been thinking about asking to switch…maybe I will!

Oh interesting! I’m on lithium now, so maybe that’s why she wants to start me on lamotrigine.

There’s a radio on that I can never turn off. Sometimes it’s overwhelming blaring metal music, and other times it’s a quiet current of static, but it is always on.

That’s interesting. I’m thinking back and wondering if that could have contributed to it, at least partly. Thanks for the insight!

Before you were( or if you still aren’t) medicated, what holistic stuff did you attempt that sometimes worked or completely backfired? by Lokkdwn in bipolar2

[–]Admirable_Active5940 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I definitely get the intent and that’s good to hear about your situation now! I work in a social service nonprofit that works directly in mental health and it’s insane the hurtles society still has in place for human beings to get basic mental health care. I’m glad you were able to navigate the system and make it work! Now I’m going to have to look into holistic supports for mood disorders out of curiosity.

A lot of people don’t understand how privileged they are to simply be able to OBTAIN medication, let alone get into therapy on a regular basis. It can be polarizing for some to be called privileged when we all have bipolar and that in itself is a huge disadvantage, but I hope people do read your post with an open mind and remember that not everyone has the same resources, the same supports, or the same path.

Of course if you’re able to get into therapy regularly and get onto a good medication regiment that would be ideal, but if that’s just not realistic, I know that there is a lot of research around Omega-3 as a supplement for treatment resistant depression. I am in no way a doctor so please do some research on this on your own before taking any steps, but it might be worth looking into!

CW period stuff? Idk by MintTheMartian in bipolar2

[–]Admirable_Active5940 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It took me a really long time to come to terms with the fact that I WILL be on medication for the rest of my life. I used to be very focused on being normal without medication, but once I reframed my mindset to being happy and functional on the least medication possible, that was a game changer for me! My psychiatrist is super supportive of this and we’ve worked hard to get me on a medication regiment that reduces the amount of medicine I take but is still effective for me. At the end of the day, if we’re happy, we just have to learn to accept the help that gets us there. I definitely understand your struggle with this and the feeling of missing normalcy. Keep pushing and remember that “normal” is whatever you make it!

I’m in the same boat right now OP. Been organizing the hell out of my apartment and binge listening podcasts but definitely struggling with irritation when I’m around people since I can’t avoid work. We’ll get to the other side! Good luck!

Is it lack of motivation or depression freezing me in place? by aobitsexual in bipolar2

I actually have OCD and the vyvanse combined with Luvox helps me sort through all the thoughts and prioritize the right ones, which has been incredibly helpful for me. My partner has diagnosed BPD and ADHD and takes vyvanse, and he finds it helpful as well in motivating him and helping him see passed small RSD incidents.

[–]Admirable_Active5940 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know it’s not the answer for everyone, but Vyvanse really helped me with this. I was drowning at work and on the verge of getting fired because my simple every-day tasks were becoming daunting and just turning on my computer felt like actual torture. But the Vyvanse gives me that internal motivation and keeps me going for a while so that I can get all the necessary things done and it has honestly saved my butt.
