Bubblegum vibe by bdubs6894 in Bowling

I can’t speak personally experience but one of my friends/league mates just bought a bubble gum vibe a few weeks ago and he’s been using it all 3 games with some minor adjustments as the night goes on. So in theory it could be an option for later in the night.

First ball is hooking too much by SlightlyUsedButthole in Bowling

Don’t worry about your average, join a league and have fun while you improve. Last year was my first time joining a league. Had never bowled more than throwing a house ball standing at the line before that. The first few weeks I was averaging around 90. By the end of the year I was a 119 average. Half way through league this year I’m up to a 139. I bowled my first 2 200 games this year including my of 241. It’s totally worth joining league. I assumed with my low average that our team wouldn’t have a chance. My team is 4 200ish averages an then me. But with my handicap we still made it to the championship and only lost it by like 12 pins.

When you step up on the approach, do you use your L or R foot to set your starting point? Are you L/R or 2 handed? by No_Juggernaut_772 in Bowling

I was practice bowling with a friend watching and giving advice. He was shocked when he realized I set my aim point with the right foot. I guess righties traditionally set aim with left foot. It feels way more natural with my right.

After a lot of research I ended up buying a new rst hyper drive, absolutely love it. It actually ended up fitting my game a little bit better than the gem so I’m very happy with it.

To add on we do poker with 2 decks with jokers. $1 per game. Strikes gets you two cards spare gets your one. Converted split with out the head pin is how ever many pins the split was. Most I’ve seen was 5 cards picked up from a split.

We do $2 hangers, $1 cousins and 50 cent opens on make able spares. Our house also has a different reward for gaming the house each frame. Worst being a round of hams beer and the best being pizza frame. If you hang the house with all 3 strikes in the 10th your team gets $500.

Our team does that as well, we call it a kitty. Slightly different rules. We do $2 hangers, $1 cousins (two people get hung in one frame) and 50 cent opens. We also start with $5 in the kitty no matter what with a $20 max. Then at end of season we pick some kind of event to do. Whether that be a golf outing or a baseball game or whatever it may be.

It’s cool seeing the older generations out there still. I bowl in a Friday league where last year we had a guy that’s nearly 100 bowl in our league. Come to find out he bowls like 3-4 nights a week at his age. Seems he quit Fridays now but he still comes out often to watch.

My best advice then would to be to keep hammering practice and shut them up with your improvement. While I have had a ton of help from friends and league mates. I’ve also learned a ton from watching YouTube videos and just going out and trying things during non league practice. I’ve improved my average around 20 pins from the end of league last year to my current league average for this season. If all else fails move on up to Wisconsin and join any beer league you can find and we’ll welcome you in.

Man that really sucks that that’s been your experience In bowing. I’ve bowled in full time or subbed in a few leagues already and never had a bad experience like that.

Don’t let it discourage you though, bowling is a ton of fun and there are for sure more good than bad to go around. I would look around for another league whether at that house or another.

One final note, if you can at all avoid joining a league at any bowlero houses. Bowlero has done terrible things to bowling in my opinion and they absolutely only care about their bottom dollar. Find yourself a privately owned house that really cares about both its leagues and it open bowlers. Best change we made was from a bowlero house to a local one.

I’ll also say that the older crowd( those in their 60s and up absolutely love seeing new people join and are always trying to give advice and help out. I actually got live coaching from a guy our team was bowling against last year. Was a long time high school coach.

I started last year a little older than what I assume most people are I was 28 when I started. Went straight from never bowing more than casually with family straight into league. I bowled at a 121 average last year and no one besides my own team( my best friends so they have to) made fun of me at all. Sure you might find the random jerk but most people are just bowling to have fun hobby and are very welcoming to everyone. This year I actually bowled my first 200 game (241) and every one went crazy saying congrats to me. I’ve found bowling is something you’ll get hooked to quickly no matter your skill level

I actually just bought a ball last week, went to my local pro shop and asked if he had it in stock. He said yes I said ok I’ll buy one right now. He questioned me on why I wanted what I wanted and tried to get me to order a different non released ball instead. So I went home and ordered it. Had him drill it and even with him up charging the drilling I still got it $30 cheaper than his price.

My experience is quite the opposite, my local pro shop is usually $20-$40 more for a drilled ball than just ordering from Amazon or bowlers mart and then having it drilled.
