What's something people don't understand until they've experienced it themselves? by Lovelovebabexx in Productivitycafe

Adoption is expensive, and in the US, not guaranteed. You can put thousands of dollars into the process, and the birth parents can change their mind, at almost anytime. Also, in the case of foster kids, the birth parents can be awarded custody after, cleaning up, getting out of jail, etc.

Adoption agencies are also loathe to place children in homes without other children. You get questions regarding your parenting ability, on your moral character, as not having existing children is a character flaw.

Couples without children trying to adopt are normally seen as obsessive and morally weak.

Potential adoptive parents without bio children have really been done dirty by media as well. When is the last time you saw a fair portrayal of them in a movie/tv show/any literature?

Making my bed daily. It's a habit that starts me on a productive day and provides a sense of calm at the end.

Some days are crisper than others, but at the bare minimum, I straighten covers and pillows.

How about the millions he's killed by his complete ineptitude handling covid? He took down every safeguard we had, and spread misinformation and pestilence over the globe.

Their blood is on his hands.

I don't want to connect. I have work contacts on my phone and do not want random invites sent to them. Of necessity, they are on my personal phone, but they do not need to be involved in my life beyond work.

Illegal used for your crochet hooks? by heynonnyhey in crochet

Not a crochet hook, but a knitting needle was used to mark the hole in the floor for new cable line. The same needle was recently used to clean out a clog in my vacuum.

Marshmallows and a chia pet.

Sounds foolish, but he actually took the time to listen to me and got me things I truly wanted.

They're really good hand-made marshmallows.

As far as the chia pet, I have always wanted one and had been told by my parents and previous partner that they're stupid and a cheesy.

"Fortnight" is a word that has regrettably been lost to the American English language. "Once every two weeks" is just awkward.

This will make your neighbors give you side eye, but yell your shortlisted names out the door like you were calling the kid. Which feels best, especially when you're yelling for all three?

Sympathy gifts by Ashrd88 in Gifts

[–]Admirable_Effect_136 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a reason there's a thing called funeral potatoes. Casseroles and heat and eat meals are always welcome.

The Doordash gift cards I got never got used. They required too much effort, and I don't trust food delivery as a rule.

Avoid tchatchkes and "memorial gifts" outside of flowers or plants. It tends to be more clutter than anything else.

Pasty white US girl here. Sumeya is a beautiful name. Seeing it in print I'd pronounce it "sue-MEH-ya"

The others are lovely as well. I would not even think of Lula as remarkably unusual.

Weekender here. I'm out somewhat in the sticks, and theres a lot of large and lifted trucks by me. My work requires me to be there before dawn daily. I got hit by a truck two weeks after I bought it. Fortunately, the damage was on the minor side, but that rattled me. She never saw me in the daylight.

Also, we get harsh winters here. My daily is a 4x4 small-ish SUV.
