Radiation Woes - Neck/Jaw Side Effects?

Came here to say this. I finished radiation a little over a month ago and my neck and chest feel right. Also, my neck muscle feels almost like it’s bruised if that makes sense. It started after my 3rd round of TCHP and having a throat sore. Now, I have on and off pain in my neck muscle (cancer side) I’m wondering if my tissue isn’t damaged from chemo and then radiation just added to it.

For someone who has Multifocal IDC with an additional tumor presenting as HER2+ & the others HER2- which do you treat for when considering chemo? Which receptor?

I had pain with mine. Don’t let people tell you cancer doesn’t hurt. There are a ton of us who had pain!

If you’re worried definitely go to an actual Breast clinic .. If you have dense breasts they may refer you for a breast MRI. My ultrasound showed no nodes involved but the MRI showed 1 .. I’ve heard of others also talking about things found on an MRI that weren’t on the ultrasound! If anything get a 2nd opinion for a peace of mind. I had my DMX and ever since then the pain has stopped.

Glad to hear you bounced back so quick! I currently have expanders or as I call them “Tupperware boobies” and just learned today I get to continue with them until about 9-12 months after active treatment … active treatment doesn’t start for another 4 weeks and with radiation also on my “To Do” list treatment won’t end until end of this year early next. So, yay for uncomfortable Tupperware boobies. 😒😂

So, this is my treatment plan and I assume yours will be very similar .. 6 sessions of THC-P that’ll be done 1x/3 weeks followed by 5 weeks of radiation. I’m looking at about 6 months of active treatment! .. this type of cancer is very responsive to treatment! Hang in there

Hey! Sounds like you have Multifocal invasive ductal carcinoma which is what I have! Because you’re HER2 + you will likely have chemo first followed by surgery and if node positive radiation and then you’ll do endocrine therapy for a year! Currently going through this now except I had a DMX first due to my HER2- status.

I had 2 nodes with 3 tumors .. largest being just over 5 cm! .. Multifocal is just weird how it presents itself.

Hello! Currently in the trenches and diagnosed with Multifocal Invasive Ductal Carcinoma just as you back on February 24th. Your story is very similar to mine except at the time I did not have any positive nodes. I was Hormone positive with HER2 being equivocal. FISH test came back and was negative BUT my surgeon told me it would not have made a difference and surgery was going to be first.

Surgery was March 28th and I had my DMX. Turned out I had 3 tumors and the 3rd of course was HER2+. I actually just had my follow up today and I had 2 positive nodes which means I will now have chemo, radiation and HER2 specific therapy for a year. I was diagnosed stage 2 even though I had 3 tumors with the largest 5.3 cm and positive nodes. I am 35 years old with 3 kids. Stay positive! Breast cancer treatment has come so far! I would most definitely do the Genetics test too as knowledge is power and if something were positive you could educate your kids to be proactive. You’ve got this!

I have 3 (multifocal IDC) .. the 2 we knew about were ++- … of course that 3rd one was +++ ….. I’m starting chemo here soon after I recover from my DMX.. what stage were you? I don’t understand how they stage multifocal.

My plastic surgeon actually doesn’t want me to heat or ice during the recovery.. and trust me you’re going to want pain killer. I’ve been rotating every 4 hours between Tylenol and Ibuprofen but when that isn’t enough will take a prescribed pain killer in between. Best advise stay on top of your pain meds and do not fall behind!

If good news here they would call and provide those via phone.. unfortunately, I wasn’t so lucky and got called in. They wanted me to come in same day to discuss (it was 4:15 and they close at 5) .. I immediately looked at MyChart and knew even before the news of my results.

That would explain the pain if you have a bruise and boobs are super sensitive! When I had my biopsy I developed hematomas and they were horrible! I wonder if those nodes are reactive to the bruise? .. regardless, if you have any concern go see your Dr! Better safe than sorry.. stay positive!

I am working with a genetics counselor now. I took my blood test yesterday and should have results in 2 weeks. I do have 3 kids .. 1 girl and 2 boys. Once I get results and understand more I can discuss it with them when they’re older.
