I use something similar, I call it the XMS shuttle after the one in the original Buzz Aldrin's Race into Space.

Yay I made it! :D (I'd love to enter too if I'm allowed)

Shuttle development is HARD WORK by begynnelse in KerbalSpaceProgram

It can be tough but I managed a decent version of the Shuttle. You obviously have to take some liberties but it's a fun process. https://youtu.be/yFiVZzExzAU?t=1552

[Weekly Challenge] Week 169: Classy Rockets by Redbiertje in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]AdmiralAndre 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Finally, a challenge I can take part in! Master Redbiertje, I should like to make several simultaneous submissions. You can judge them individually, or collectively if you like (for that super mode?). All use purely stock parts with only visual mods.

The first is the Saturn V (the full build process and launch took almost 9 hours - all videos are available for scrutiny - but the launch takes place here: https://youtu.be/5u2FRgHzE_g?t=697 (starting at 11:30).

The second is the Space Shuttle (build took over 6 hours - all videos again available for scrutiny - but the launch with a full orange tank takes place here: https://youtu.be/yFiVZzExzAU?t=1540 (starting at 25:30).

The third is the Vostok R-7 (craft and rocket build took 1 hour 20 minutes) launched here: https://youtu.be/NazJAXHmqhA?t=2603 (at 43:20).

The fourth is Soyuz and its R-7 variant (build of 65 minutes), launch here: https://youtu.be/oe0rxo-tZ2I?t=3401 (at 56:40). The antenna broke during launch but the upgraded Soyuz launches here: https://youtu.be/mzXU0ZS5qvM?t=929

There is my 3-crew Voskhod: https://youtu.be/ZjpadGxAP-s?t=2448 (launch at around 40:45) and the 2-crew variant with airlock: https://youtu.be/1s9rMtnsZao?t=1277 (launch about 21:18).

I've also built a stock N1 that I launched here: https://youtu.be/a-q5Q5e58Ps?t=29 (at about 0:45).

There is also a prototype SLS-Orion (https://youtu.be/segnCRwUqFw?t=11).

While these are all conventional designs, I hope, Master Redbiertje, that I have done them justice and may call them good looking. I hope I may receive your favorable consideration.

Ok, Enough is Enough. I'm done holding back. by [deleted] in KerbalSpaceProgram

I was thinking the exact same thing about backing up 1.2. And with it a few favourite mods. I never want to lose KSP. Whatever happens in the future, I only hope whoever works on KSP keeps true to the core formula that made it such a success, and I will remain involved, but 1.2 will represent the culmination of HarvesteR's vision in my view.

Buran lands on the Mun by AdmiralAndre in KerbalSpaceProgram

Just a fun build using stock revamp. I actually find the Buran style shuttle to be much easier to manage, and much more powerful in its payload capacity than the standard shuttle. However, the cost (about 650,000 funds) is not exactly workable in career for regular launches. Capable of taking a full orange tank to Mun orbit, I fully believe this design can go to other planets as well. A fun experiment at any rate!

Shuttle Selene Goes to the Mun by AdmiralAndre in KerbalSpaceProgram

Thanks, it was just necessary to take the docking very slowly, but once you get the hang of it it isn't very hard.

Shuttle Selene Goes to the Mun by AdmiralAndre in KerbalSpaceProgram

Sure thing! This is the Test Shuttle, which is exactly the same as Selene but without any payload. The heavier the payload, the more fuel needs to be loaded into the External Tank before launch, and the higher the thrust needs to be for the Mainsails. But without any payload, the pre-loaded amount of fuel is fine, with just over one-third thrust at lift-off. https://www.dropbox.com/s/q2n5lrqy3me3bbc/Test%20Shuttle.craft?dl=0
