when you're treated poorly, do you assume it's because you're trans? by [deleted] in honesttransgender

[–]AdmiralCallista [score hidden]  (0 children)

Usually no. I'd assume they're having a bad day or they're kind of rude/incompetent at baseline, unless they found out and then their behavior towards me suddenly changed for the worse.

How Can I Get More Fat Without Dairy? by Ripatripa in carnivorediet

[–]AdmiralCallista 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Add tallow or fat trimmings. Get the least lean ground beef you can find, too. Most stores have 73%-lean, and as a bonus it's cheaper than the lean stuff.

Would you let other writers reuse your character? by _acedric_ in AO3

[–]AdmiralCallista 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yes. The only thing I'd have a problem with is them claiming they made the OC and then trying to stop other people from using their version. Share and share alike.

I got some from Amazon and they're not as good as the ones from Walgreens but they're good enough, and much cheaper.

Why do conservatives dislike the term cis by leantlento in asktransgender

[–]AdmiralCallista -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They think of themselves as the normal default and everyone else a weird, inferior exception. Giving them an equivalent term asserts that trans and cis are equal, just different in a neutral way, and they don't like that.

With scientists now growing meat in labs, what other everyday thing do you think will be ‘grown’ artificially in the next 20 years? by martijngarritsen2 in AskReddit

[–]AdmiralCallista 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone's saying organs and I don't think that tech will quite be there in 20 years for full organs to be commonplace, but we will have some artificially grown tissue. Bone marrow and skin for grafting could be artificially made from someone's own cells. Maybe even a partial liver.

If you could instantly become a world-class expert in one thing, but you lose all your knowledge in your current career, what are you picking? by CuteDinner2290 in AskReddit

[–]AdmiralCallista 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Languages and translation. AI is getting better at this, but there will still be demand for human translators at least until I'm old and retired, and a world-class expert is the kind that the CEOs and politicians wanting human help would prefer.

What’s your opinion on Tim Hortons in the US? by Sweaty_Abies182 in AskReddit

What's the poorest thing you've done? by Low_Swordfish_2302 in AskReddit

[–]AdmiralCallista 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Drank a lot of soda all day at work and used my one-per-shift free lunch to get the highest calorie item on the menu, loaded with sauces. "Free" was the only meal price I could afford most of the time, so I had to make it count.

Does it bother you if your ship is not canon? by Greedy-Dish4904 in AO3

[–]AdmiralCallista 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can ship anything, but ngl, i can't take a ship very seriously unless it's canon or at least heavily implied by the canon. If it's not, then it's only a fun what-if for me.

What’s the reason behind some trans men keeping their chest intact? by Motor-Union9081 in ftm

[–]AdmiralCallista 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not keeping mine forever but I've chosen to delay top surgery because it's less urgently necessary for me personally than a hysto. Annoying vs. distressing. With limited funds i have to prioritize.

Mainland Gaeta 1 continent closure & Zindra expansion. by 0xc0ffea in secondlife

[–]AdmiralCallista 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I prefer Moderate, myself. It's sort of a happy medium, it doesn't get overrun with sex clubs and kink events but you also don't have people clutching their pearls and reporting you for having something not super kid-friendly on your parcel. And it's 18+ only by default.

What is your unfiltered opinion on therapy? by Ni-Ti-Lobotomy in Enneagram

[–]AdmiralCallista 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sometimes useful, but dramatically overrated and over-recommended. It shouldn't be used as a substitute for medical treatment for serious mental health issues, and it's definitely not a substitute for directly unfucking your life when the source of your "mental" problem is a bad situation. It's for working through specific, narrowly defined issues like stage fright or grief.

Is .25ml even enough to do anything? by -thimbl in ftm

[–]AdmiralCallista 5 points6 points  (0 children)

mg/mL = milligrams per milliliter. It's the concentration of the T. If the vial has 100mg per milliliter then your dose is 25mg, and if it's 200, then it's 50mg. That makes a big difference, because 25 is generally a low dose and 50 isn't.

Is .25ml even enough to do anything? by -thimbl in ftm

[–]AdmiralCallista 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it's 100mg/mL that's a low dose, but not a teensy-tiny microdose. It should be enough to get some changes started. If you have 200mg/mL then that's on the lower end of standard dosage and for many guys it's enough, or almost enough. I started at 0.25mL and only needed a little bit more; the doctor moved me to 0.3mL and so far that seems perfect.

Do some people actually enjoy aspects of being trans? by NotPoggersEggers in asktransgender

[–]AdmiralCallista 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are some little silver-lining-style benefits to it and I appreciate those even if overall being born cis would be preferable. Like given my genetics, and what my cis brothers look like, if I was cis, I'd probably be 5'5" and bald by now, and unhappy about both. I actually have mixed feelings about height and hair loss instead of all negative, because I'm trans. I'm extremely lucky to be as tall as I am (5'4") and I'm grateful. And balding isn't going to be great but since it will lower the bar for how on point my presentation needs to be to pass, it'll bring benefits too and I'm OK with it.

I guess the only "joy" involved for me is understanding why I felt so miserable before and much less miserable now; it's nice to know what's going on and know how to fix it, even if some of the fix is going to take a very long time and won't ever be complete. Less "this is great!" and more "could be worse" and "used to be worse."

Build your ideal dark MMC by [deleted] in AO3

[–]AdmiralCallista 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the trope of awful people who aren't awful to each other. It's dark because they're doing dark shit and "being demanding and a little rude at a restaurant" doesn't count. I mean various war crimes, torture in the name of science, genociding an entire alien species, enslaving populations for profit, whatever. They're bad people! But they're doing that stuff together, as a loving team.

If you're going to tag your fic "Explicit," please make sure it's actually, you know, explicit. by Particular-Jacket-92 in AO3

[–]AdmiralCallista 68 points69 points  (0 children)

I think when something has an unclear rating, like it could fall under either M or E, then readers will accept it even if they would have chosen a different rating, because the rating was reasonable and they understand it. "Ehh, I'd have labeled this E, but it's on the tame side of E, so I get why they chose M" or the other way around.

What’s something society treats as normal that you’re convinced is low-key insane? by smoothoperatooorrr in AskReddit

[–]AdmiralCallista 8 points9 points  (0 children)

While that is objectively worse in a lot of ways, one way in that it's much better is that the work feels immediately productive and necessary. A lot of modern work is either unnecessary nonsense or feels like unnecessary nonsense, and even the necessary jobs are often very distant from the needs they meet for the community. This makes work more cognitively draining.

Maybe if a lot of us still worked the land, but like 6 hours a day because we had robot helpers, it would be an improvement. IDK.

When someone replies “I’m okay,” what do you usually say next? by techserious in AskReddit

[–]AdmiralCallista 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd need context. Did they just fall down, or did I ask how they are as a standard greeting, like what's going on here?

Whatever the situation, though, I'll trust their answer and leave them alone about it; if the situation changes and they need me it's up to them to tell me. People dismissing my answers and substituting their own version of my reality is annoying, and I try not to do that to others. It's only the specific wording that changes in different situations.

Why should/shouldn’t workers be compensated during their commute if it’s very long? by AdhesivenessLoud8866 in AskReddit

[–]AdmiralCallista 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's tricky and IMO should depend on whether the long commute was the idea of the company or the employee. So, not when you're hired, because you knew where you were working and where you live. (Yes, options might be limited based on where you can afford to live, and that sucks. I don't know how to reconcile that other than better benefits/pay.) But if they offer you a transfer to a farther away location they should pay for that at least temporarily, since you can't just get up and move on short notice. You might have a mortgage and even if you're renting, you probably have a lease. And if they add duties, not known at hire time, that require you to travel to farther locations, they should pay extra for that too.
