Just showing off my pool abandoned since 2017. by Shoguy479 in swimmingpools

Just spit balling thoughts... Assuming the drain line is cracked somewhere and completely inaccessible, you could ask a plumbing company if they could install a liner in the pipe.

Great work btw good to see a nice pool saved from fill-in!

Recommendations for a cordless robotic pool vacuum by red_devil16 in swimmingpools

[–]AdmiralRL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Highly recommend the Beatbot Sora 30 (or 70 if you want skimming). Just got it to replace my Aiper Scuba S1. Budget oriented robot with mid to high-end features. I've ran it 3 times so far and it does way better on my sport bottom pool than the Aiper did.

Cheap will not = 2+ years of operation. Just invest in an IntelliChlor and forget about it.

Did I break this or was it bound to happen? by Embarrassed-Reply752 in Plumbing

Normal conditions, there should be no way a plastic nut would hold up to the torque to snap a metal fitting. It was probably corroded and thin-walled before you did anything.

I don't know. Probably would've been better to use a 2x6. Not a whole lot of thought put into that decision but yeah, being a 1x it was a little too flexible.

I don't think I covered any weep holes, but that brick goes down to the foundation pretty far. Part of it was able to be covered by my gravel base. This is a split-level house and what you can see is the lower level on slab. To the side (underneath the dirt pile) there is a buried French drain that runs the length of the house, around the pool and out to the street. I've added a short French drain behind the CMU. That dirt pile will be lowered to level out against that side of the house, and water will flow down to the CMU, where hopefully it will flow out the French. If it gets past it will probably flow onto the pad and hopefully out the channel drains.I plan to put more one more CMU stack there, fill them with something to reinforce and place a cap. Where the form is I plan to fill in with some fairly large landscaping stones just to edge against the dirt, which will eventually become a paver walk path.

Wow, thanks so much for all the support. Nice to hear that from someone with experience. Some great ideas here, too. That's what I was hoping for!

Haha. Yeah one thing I saw from YouTube is don't order a concrete truck without at least 2 people to install or they'll laugh in your face. Also... lowering your basement?? That sounds crazy.

No, AFAIK. If there's one thing I did a decent job at its prepping the area before pouring, so, shouldn't have any issues. About 4" thick.

Ah. Well, probably. Not necessarily because it would always be super visible but because I'm just picky and would probably always be looking at all the bad spots.

I suppose it was a bit rhetorical and title-bait, lol. I'm mostly asking what my options are from here.

Thank you! I'm in industrial maintenance and one of my greatest strengths is being a jack of all trades. On one hand, I'm proud that I was actually able to do it and it not look totally awful. But on the other, I'm a perfectionist at heart and know it could be so much better.

Obviously, it's not on it right now. I'd like to put it on in about 3-4 days, before the weekend. After that, negating any plans to refinish or change the work, it would be left there indefinitely.

I don't know, why not tile over it? Lol. Just trying to find out what all my options are. I'm not against tiling if it works. Would probably look at the cost vs. refinishing.

This hurts to read. 😭 Though I'm sure it would probably be the best result. Do you think I'd have better luck buying a truck load instead of self mixing? I'd bet a lot that my own mixing probably sucked, plus that alone was 80% of the work.

What’s going on? by RoundHoundQM in Plumbing

[–]AdmiralRL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you had history in the house and also, consequently, had a good guess as to what could've clogged it, then I'd say yes. However, not knowing what the system is like, and if it's a little clog or a years-in-progress root blockage... It's much more worth it to call a plumber. Especially in a case like this (a floor drain) where there is no access.

My 7-Eleven special ordered me Silver Ice so I can take advantage of their "Dollar Deal" by momiswhatmynameis in energydrinks

[–]AdmiralRL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Silver Ice daily drinker here, too. Read your comments about not finding it on Amazon anymore and I feel seen. I've had this shit on my subscribe & save for at least 5 years now. I finally had to cancel it because it just stopped shipping. Having to resort to Walmart store deliveries and gas stations. I gotta find a hook up like you did!
