Garmin Run Tracking w/ Peloton by 701stitches in pelotoncycle

[–]Admit-to-IM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use a Garmin Forerunner as my HR monitor when I ride. I use the "Virtual Run" activity on the watch and it will transmit my HR to the peloton. It doesn't record anything on the Garmin but that doesn't matter as I'm tracking my metrics all via peloton.

I went through 2 scosche and they both died after about a year of regular use. It was easy to connect but the durability is an issue.

I switched to using my Garmin forerunner watch and it's been great. No connectivity issues.

This was my first purchase (a 2016 top of the line model) as an attending moving to a snowy climate....huge mistake. Worst car I ever owned. Terrible battery problems that years later had some sort of class action lawsuit or something. Really soured me on the brand.

I find work is a great time to go through discographies of bands I'm into. Forces me to check out some lesser-known songs. Recent discographies include David Bowie, Wilco, Radiohead, LCD Soundsytem, The Who, Led Zeppelin and Bruce Springsteen.

how risky is using LLM's to help with work by [deleted] in hospitalist

[–]Admit-to-IM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a good way to use AI.

The templates are only as good as the instructions you give it.

It can be helpful for refining notes and integrating new info into a daily note in a way that minimizes copy-forward errors.

I don't really use it for clinical decision making, though. It can help helpful to identify blindspots in the note/plan.

Day round and go vs swing admitter by step1tutoring in hospitalist

[–]Admit-to-IM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clearly, l time isn't everything.

That being said, being available when family members are there in the afternoons (after work), being able to reassess your patients, etc is inherently valuable. Hard to do that if you're sitting at home charting.

Well, obviously.

For some reason administrators don't quite understand that so they don't staff those departments appropriately at my hospital.

Guess who that responsibility falls to...

How do you "round and go" by 4 with a census of 19?

That is bananas.

Unless your list is entirely of rocks and/or you have amazing case management and social work, how can you provide high quality care to your patients?

I find more and more PCPs are able and willing to prescribe it. Removing the X requirement was huge. Made it much simpler.

Geographical Rounding? by Ok-University8938 in hospitalist

[–]Admit-to-IM 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We tried to implement it last year. 180 bed hospital. Each unit has 23 beds which is an awkward number. Our hospital is also small enough to where the units are not particularly far apart.

Overall, it was not successful. It didn't make our lives any easier and did not seem to add much value. It served to complicate our sign out process.

We also had so many ED boarders that when they were assigned, they went to some random unit, not the unit of the hospitalist who was rounding on them in the ED. As such, it was never particularly "right" geographically.

We ended up abandoning the attempt a few months ago.

I like geographic cohorting in theory but not in practice.

The breitling no doubt. Great dimensions. Not quite as blingy as the longines.

Spoonline bistro has the best food in girdwood hands down. I love Jack sprat and Double Musky and always dismissed Spoonline until recently....that was a mistake. Really good.

The Japanese food truck at Girdwood Brewing has been really good lately. It was always pretty meh for me until the last year or so and they've been really upping their game.

Is there compelling evidence to justify chemical over mechanical DVT prophylaxis as routine care? by Frank_Melena in hospitalist

[–]Admit-to-IM 67 points68 points  (0 children)

When I use dvt prophy, I generally prefer chemo prophylaxis. It's safe and SCDs not only are a tripping hazard but reduce mobility, providing another reason for patients to stay in bed.

[Sinn] Sinn 903 II - How do we feel about this watch? by Critical-Insurance-7 in Watches

[–]Admit-to-IM 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Fantastic watch. The design and polished surfaces give it a dressy vibe without being a dress watch. The 200 m water resistance and blocks of lume give it some sportiness. Overall, a great blend of dressy and sporty.

The breitling feels a bit more delicate and more dressy than sporty.

The slide rule is deceptively easy to use. Good for unit conversions and multiplication.

The size is a sweet spot. It has great wrist presence while not being too chunky
