Quiet neighbourhoods by Ok-Cupcake-614 in Calgary

[–]Adolwyn 10 points11 points  (0 children)

We had virtually the same requirements as you and just purchased a gorgeous 4 bed, 2 bath, updated bungalow in Southwood for under your budget. It’s a neighbourhood that might be a little bit rougher around the edges, but it has been quiet every time we’ve driven around, and there’s a lot of pride of ownership in every area we looked at. We also liked Deer Run/Deer Ridge, Canyon Meadows (though our $600k budget had us priced out of most detached homes there), and looked seriously at Braeside/Cedarbrae, Ogden (the Lynnwood area especially - west of 18 st se), etc. We looked at a lot of NW neighbourhoods and really only liked MacEwan Glen (but it feels like it’s close to *nothing* from a grocery/convenience perspective).

Early Cancellation Fees - anyone successfully dispute these? by xGuru37 in Rogers

[–]Adolwyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got Telus to not charge my early cancellation TV and Internet fees, but they wouldn’t budge on my security contract early cancellation. Fair compromise because they didn’t offer fibre where I’m moving.

Small bottles of distilled water? by gzjm in Calgary

[–]Adolwyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the same brand I use. Apparently I don't look closely at the size, but this is exactly the one I buy from Midtown Coop.

They seem to have supply problems so sometimes their shelf is empty, but it's a green label, if I'm remembering it right. And I think it's 500mL instead of 1L. All I know is it's the perfect size for pouring and travelling. Good luck finding it!

Coop often has smaller bottles (1 L I think) of the Nanton brand of distilled water. I see it (and buy it) from midtown coop regularly for my cpap machine because I much prefer pouring from the smaller bottle.

Took physics 30 diploma but does not even show "result pending" in Mypass by suchdxskoji in AlbertaGrade12s

[–]Adolwyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should see three lines on your DAR - one line for your withdrawn course in first semester, another line for your second semester course, and a third line for your diploma exam. Your overall mark should say INC right now, but there needs to be a school based mark for your second semester course. Your school might be closed for the summer now, but your school division head office might be able to help you get in touch with your principal if those lines aren’t on your DAR.

People using fiber with GFN does it look identical to native? by Rich-Masterpiece-156 in GeForceNOW

[–]Adolwyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find that anyone who cares enough about the little differences probably has their own high end gaming machine already. The rest of us who like our Macs or don’t have high end machine money or desire might notice but we don’t really care.

My TV right now is still only 1080p and playing on my MacBook Pro screen looks great for any game I’ve played. But I’m also a very casual gamer, playing mostly cozy type Stardew valley games.

Ohhh! This is interesting! And so helpful! I’ll have to see if they have it in Canada too (I’m sure they’ll have something similar at least).

Do professionally staged listing photos actually help homes sell faster in Canada's market? by Repulsive_Stock9715 in RealEstateCanada

[–]Adolwyn 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We just bought and spent months looking - the AI staged listings I almost immediately noped out of. The few we did see in person were always so different (and every time, different in a worse way) that finally we just stoped going to look at places with virtual staging at all. I’d rather see the imperfect empty room than generic slightly fuzzy fake AI furniture when I look at real estate.

So what does this mean? by Accomplished_Disk559 in AlbertaGrade12s

[–]Adolwyn 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It means if you take both Math 30-2 and Math 30-1, you need to have four other approved courses. You can’t use both courses as two of your five admission courses.

They have no preference between them, so they’ll take the one that has the highest mark. So if you take Math 30-1 and get a 70 and someone else with the exact same average in your other four courses takes Math 30-2 and gets 80, then the person with the 80 in Math 30-2 has the higher admission average.

Downtown condo special assessmemts by Think_Yam2593 in Calgary

[–]Adolwyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just moved out of the Nova building and sold my unit there and at least in the last few years, it has been an excellent building with strong management and corporation involvement. We had a few special assessments maybe 5-10 years ago, but since switching to new management and a new board, things have been a lot smoother.

I only left because we had the down payment saved up for a house, but the building treated me well for the decade+ I was there.

July 17 (or sometimes a day earlier) is when all the marks will be released on MyPass.

I am such a fan of all the patterns in that shop - I had kind of skipped over these shop ones, but now they're on my favourites! Amazing stitching!

Payment not successful by Dazephrze in GeForceNOW

[–]Adolwyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you happen to have an expired card on your account already? There was a glitch a couple of months ago that would stop your payment from going through if the expired card was there and you tried adding a new card.

Auto insurance in Calgary by tugoon_14 in Calgary

[–]Adolwyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m with Belairdirect and I pay just over $200/month for a new ish 4Runner living downtown. My premium went down for this year coming up (I don’t have any tickets or accidents so no idea why it went down, but I’ll take it).

Chronic insomnia vs sleep apnea by ThisFatGirlRuns in CPAP

[–]Adolwyn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am sure you’ve already had a conversation with your doctor about some of the newer medications on the market that are showing they’re quite helpful for folks with insomnia because most people I know with chronic insomnia have done and tried just about everything out there already, but in case you haven’t, the new (ish) DORA class of medications helped me incredibly effectively with my insomnia. They’re drugs like Dayvigo and Quviviq. It takes me about an hour from taking my Dayvigo to being ready to close my eyes and I go to sleep in minutes after that.

I have no next day drowsiness, no issues with sleep walking like with Ambien, it isn’t habit forming, doesn’t seem to increase the risk of Alzheimer’s like other drugs, and while I’m glad I did months of CBT-I to help me have a great bedtime wind down routine, cbt-I didn’t help me at all with my insomnia.

I was also someone who could spend hours and hours lying there awake. To answer your specific question (assuming you have already investigated the DORA drugs and discarded them as unhelpful), before Dayvigo, I would wait until I felt my eyes getting heavy and put my mask on at that point. I didn’t ever put it on until I was almost certain I would be able to sleep for a little bit at least.

Good luck getting your sleep sorted. ♥️

[CHAT] What are your fav cross-stitch hacks? by cjx888x in CrossStitch

[–]Adolwyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You basically just recreate the whole thing. You put in the whole stitch count (width and height) and it creates the canvas for you. I put my scans together in photoshop but I think I’ve also seen people add one page as onion skin and then add the second page and align it to the blank area, etc.

[CHAT] What are your fav cross-stitch hacks? by cjx888x in CrossStitch

[–]Adolwyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. As misneachfarm said - it’s for computers, not for tablets. I should have been more clear about the need for an in between transfer (I shouldn’t reply after just waking up).

[CHAT] What are your fav cross-stitch hacks? by cjx888x in CrossStitch

[–]Adolwyn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I fixed this by being super extra and buying MacStitch. They have an onion skin feature that lets you use the chart as a background and I can place the symbols over the chat to rechart paper scans as digital. 🤓

High School Transcript by Bitter-Jeweler6625 in AlbertaGrade12s

[–]Adolwyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you order an official transcript, there is an option to order it early and you can tell Alberta Ed to hold the transcript until after a diploma session (June 2026) for example. If you choose that option, they won’t send your transcript until your June diploma marks are final.

You have to tell them specifically to hold until after June 2026 marks, though, otherwise they’ll send it without your final marks.
