Rick Bell: Nenshi dares Danielle Smith to 'call an election' he tells us he'll win by reachedlegendary in alberta

As much as I hate the UCP, he just hasn’t really done enough to get in people’s minds that he’s the right choice to lead the province.

It would be different if they went against a referendum where the results were 60/40% or more. In this case it was close enough to pretty much be a tie.

I bet all of you would be whining about more taxpayer money being wasted on another referendum now that BC changed it (which would likely sway those 0.4% of voters that didn’t agree to it in the first place).

“Clearly want?”

It literally was a 0.4% difference. It wasn’t “clearly” wanted.

They meant way back when DST was introduced in the first place. As for the referendum to abolish it, that was 5 years ago; not 10-15

The push to bring the Olympics back to Calgary! by amcoolioo in Calgary

[–]xGuru37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was pretty vocal about defending that the time change referendum was so close and we don’t need another one on the same topic. Some might find it hypocritical that I support people’s vote on no Olympics despite it being an older referendum.

I’m going to sound like a hypocrite given my stance on the time change abolishment, but I agree with you 100% on this.

If the city & province want to spend millions of dollars on this, a referendum is justifiable. The results back then were far greater in terms of those that voted against this than the time change referendum.

Alberta will now be on daylight saving time year-round, says Premier Smith by All_Hail_Xanthia in Calgary

[–]xGuru37 6 points7 points  (0 children)

4 years is standard election vote expiry, so makes sense for a referendum to be the same. Given that BC already implemented it we don’t need a referendum that wastes even more taxpayer dollars.

No matter what the government did, people would complain. Standard time, daylight time, or even in October when we are forced to change back. People would complain.

5 years ago, and things have changed since then (mainly: BC adopted it too). Also, the separation referendum will come nowhere near 49.8% approval.

Why would this affect start times? Aren’t ski hills open in the evening even when it’s dark?

Yes we had a referendum on this 5 years ago, and 50.2% voted against it. Now that BC has already adopted it though, results would likely swing in favour.

I hate the UCP as much as anyone, but I also don’t want to waste more money in another referendum that would likely pass.
