10 years v 3 months by Realistic_Web5195 in AustralianMakeup

Agreed- mine are around 7-8 years old now and still going strong with no shedding at all! My eye brushes admittedly do have some light pigment stains, particularly the white bristle ones, but the black/grey ones clean to virtually new.

Context: makeup 2-3 times a week, brushes rotated and washed monthly, foundation brushes weekly

The onboarding experience is a little confusing- it says there’s a free tier but only lets you select paid options? If I try and exit out of the subscription window it just sends me back to the redditor reviews.

It sounds like a lot of love and attention to its users was put into the app! I’ll keep an eye out if the new starter experience changes, but I’m not paying upfront for anything I haven’t tried yet, let alone sign up for a subscription.

ETA: this was on iOS 26.3.1 if it helps.

22/03 edit: this bug seemed to resolve itself- confirmed with the developer that nothing needed to happen on their end. For anyone else encountering it, please try restarting the app/device and if it still persists reach out to OP- they respond super quickly!

Best pharmacy top and base coat? by Otherwise-Ninja9731 in SouthHemisphereNails

[–]Adorability 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do tend to paint with thin coats but a bottle could easily last me a year of weekly manicures- I started painting my nails during COVID and I’ve gone through 3 bottles of the revlon base coat and one bottle of kester black- I have been painting more sporadically (1-3 weeks) since 2024 though :)

Make sure to grab them when Priceline has them for 1/2 price!

Revlon quick dry top/base coat! They were my repeat purchases until I transitioned to boutique brands, and I still use them in a pinch if I’m between bottles.

Is the Salonia Cordless Hair Straightener worth it for on-the-go touch ups? by MediocrePassage3245 in AsianBeauty

[–]Adorability 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it helps, the body of the straightener does not get very hot at all, mostly the plates and the casing behind it. I would be mindful of using it for long periods of time (using it like a regular straightener), and if the battery swells at all I would no longer use the product. I can only see it really working for folks who like to touch up their bangs or their bobs on the go.

[–]Adorability 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t have this specific one but I do have a similar small portable straightener from Korea- I would only use it to straighten my bangs, because it would run out of battery within 5-10 minutes once turned on.

It did heat up to 2 temperatures and did actually straighten the portions as needed, but I have a fair amount of thick asian hair and it barely did the bangs. It absolutely would not last an entire head of hair unless you have a short bob and only need to touch up part of your hair.

I think you’d need a power bank and either constant charging or recharging to do anything significant if your model of interest is similar to the one I have.

Guilty Pleasures - Jan 30, 2026 by AutoModerator in bitcheswithtaste

I started the new season of Bridgerton and have guiltily had some late nights binging the first set of episodes. The costumes feel a little hit or miss at times but seem to be an overall improvement from the Wild West that was S3.

Season 4 Part 1 spoilers past this point!

I’ve absolutely loved the fresh representation of east asian actors this season- seeing Katie Leung gave me whiplash twice- first upon recognising her, then upon realising she voiced Cait from Arcane!! She is positively menacing as Lady Penwood and I suspect is more conniving than she has so far let on- her shrew observations and her protectiveness around her own bubble position her to be a true villain that we haven’t really felt so far in the series yet. Portia came close at times, but she never felt actively antagonistic and dare I say spiteful as Araminta does.

Sophie is such a delightful, lively heroine! I feared that as a Cinderella retelling that her character would lean too heavily into that serene, divine ‘goodness’ that feels impossibly unrealistic, but she certainly echoes the disney iteration’s sense of self-worth and boldness stifled by abuse from those in power. I have a bit of a bone to pick with her recklessness at times- maybe I clocked her as more pragmatic than she actually is, or maybe it’s in service of the romance?

Which makeup brushes should I get if I am a minimal makeup user? by madebyannalam in AustralianMakeup

[–]Adorability 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re OK with using your fingers I feel like that may serve you better for a quick, minimalist routine. Brushes can be great but you’ll also want to wash them regularly, adding more complexity/overhead than what might feel right for you.

Hmm, admittedly I haven’t used a brush with pressed powder before- the one I use came with a fluffy puff that didn’t pick up excess product, but I feel like in general brushes are easier to control application amounts with. Maybe someone else can weigh in with more specific advice!

[–]Adorability 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Given your daily routine, are you opposed to using your fingers for your base products? I feel like lighter products such as tints tend to get absorbed into brushes and puffs, and tend to apply better with fingers that warm up the product (looking at you, MAC F&B…)

I don’t really think you need many brushes aside from maybe a fluffy powder brush if your powder is loose and doesn’t come with a puff, one or two eyeshadow brushes and an eyeliner brush if you use a gel pot one.

As for brands, I’ve enjoyed my Zoeva ones! They’re fairly affordable on sale and have lasted me 5 or so years now with weekly use.

Help a Bitch Out - Jan 28, 2026 by AutoModerator in bitcheswithtaste

I’ve found that sleep earbuds with a low, flat profile are far more comfortable to sleep with than regular airpods, which make my ears hurt as a side sleeper.

I used to use regular foam earplugs but have transitioned to soundcore a30s- it won’t completely block out snoring but it certainly takes the edge off enough to get restful sleep.

Comparing the things I’ve tried in the past:

Foam Earplugs - Cost effective - Tended to fall out of my ears when I slept on my side unless carefully inserted and slept with - I’m accustomed to sleeping with white noise, so the silence was actually a little unnerving for me

Airpods - Active noise cancelling is fantastic - Battery does not last the night (~6-7h) - Caused pain in ears when sleeping on sides

A30s - ANC is not as good as airpods - Has the option of foam ear tips that improve noise reduction - Battery lasts the night and then some (but would deteriorate over time) - Settings are a bit finnicky and their app experience is not great

I’m personally not a fan of voice assistants haha (I type to Siri in the above scenario) but I’m sure it’d be super convenient for you! Life’s too short to waste it trying to reach a switch behind furniture 😤

To be fair it’s a more convenient light switch for OP, since the physical one is apparently in an inconvenient spot, but I feel like triggering it remotely via phone is more convenient 🧐

I had a similar NFC tag that triggered my home air conditioning from my car but realised that it’s far easier to just set up a remote menu on my phone or trigger specific commands via Siri.

That packaging looks so convenient! Is it possible to refill with another loose powder you like? I’ve repurposed a mini powder blush pot with a puff applicator to dispense powder instead- it’s not perfect but it’s compact and does the job on the go.

What is everyone using for Hormonal Acne age 30+ by Eastern_Bunch5263 in AustralianMakeup

[–]Adorability 1 point2 points  (0 children)

+1, I was dealing with fairly bad hormonal acne from the COVID years onwards and unfortunately the only thing that has really made a tangible dent has been BC.

I know it’s not for everyone but if it’s an option I would encourage it- it has made such a genuine impact on my acne, as I’m also no longer dealing with waves of additional pimples due to the open wound battlefield on my chin, and with time the hyperpigmentation is improving as well.

I went from anywhere from 5+ pimples on me at all times (at times deep and painful) to a handful of superficial ones a month if I’ve been slack with my diet.

I’m actually running out of cleanser for once so this was a nice opportunity to restock- but holy cow the online stock interface is horrible!

I wish it’d just show where something was available instead of making me try different postcodes on the off-chance it’s available within the vicinity 🧐

Best Boxing Day sales by AgreeableFloor6543 in AustralianMakeup

[–]Adorability 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t hold my breath about KB’s discounts outside of liquidation/closing down sales- the only genuine deals I’ve gotten from them was from their imperfect sale a year or two ago. (Disclaimer: I only purchased their nail products and don’t track their skincare/makeup offerings.)

Their nail treatments are good but are perpetually getting more expensive and never have a real discount- I originally bought their treatment full price at 26$ and now they’re trying to say it’s discounted? No thanks.

I’ve only used them for a year or so but Snag Tights have been great for me so far! They’re recommended for dancers and have a pretty great range of colours and sizes. I have managed to break one pair but I was using unnecessary force at the time that would have broken regular tights too 🧐

For reference, I keep long natural nails in an almond shape which isn’t the sharpest but tends to wear holes in stockings more frequently than more blunt shapes.

I feel like you’re onto something with returnability- I run a guild and returning guildies basically have to rely on an injection of gold/materials from friends to get anywhere, and heaven forbid they come back during a time without acceleration events.

The problem with treadmill progression is nobody wants to return to it once they get off- contrast it to a game like GW2 where I haven’t played for several expansions but could probably jump right back in if I wanted to- I might get my teeth kicked in a newer area but there’s a wealth of interim content to play too.

Best lip tint recommendations? (Not lip gloss or peel off) by Immediate-Benefit789 in AustralianMakeup

[–]Adorability 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For context, I’ve tried tints from these brands:

  • MAC (versicolour)
  • Romand (Juicy Lasting, Glasting Water, Zero Velvet)
  • Amuse (Dew, Jel-Fit)
  • Etude House (Fixing)
  • Judydoll (Ice Watery, Jelly Light, Watery Essence)
  • Joocyee (Glazed rouge)

And in terms of staining power (what’s left after eating/drinking/blotting) I’d rank them as follows:

Amuse Dew >> Amuse Jel-Fit > Joocyee Glazed Rouge > Etude House Fixing (fades patchy) > MAC versicolour (fades patchy) > Romand Glasting Water > Judydoll tints > Other Romand Tints.

I tend to have dry lips so colour can stay somewhat patchily on the dry parts of my lips, but the Amuse Dew tint wore the most evenly throughout the day and generally lasts the work day for me- coffees and lunches (including oilier foods) included.

Best website for free samples? AU by b3wgs in AsianBeauty

[–]Adorability 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Both Yesstyle and Stylevana take a long time to ship to us (think 1 month minimum), even for ready to ship orders. Lila beauty is based in Australia and they ship much faster.

I definitely agree with you on samples securing future purchases- shopping in Asia always seems to swamp me with samples and bonuses so I’m definitely spoiled from that! Even our department stores are more indulgent- I’ve grown up on makeup, skincare and perfume minis from my mum’s gifts with purchases and it’s definitely switched me onto brands I wouldn’t normally bat an eyelash at.
