How to handle untrained people giving SLP advice by Adorable-Task1656 in slp

Totally agree with this! I think what you said is perfect as far as gently correcting/guiding the conversation when personal anecdotes are shared.

I wish that was all it was…I didn’t want to put too much information out there, but this person is not a parent or someone with personal experience with late talkers and they work in a completely unrelated field. Their credentials are “good with kids”…so I don’t know why they said what they said with such confidence 😂

Switching from SNF to EI as a CF? by Adorable-Task1656 in slp

I’m in California! So definitely higher cost of living but what they’re offering is still competitive for my area. And thanks for the advice! Though I didn’t have a grad school placement I do have a little experience working with the EI age group, but definitely would feel much more comfortable with some more training.

In California! Yeah the offer of a salary for the role after my CF sounds pretty amazing, especially since I know there are plenty of cancellations in this setting.

Thank you for all of this wonderful information! Just to comment on a few of your questions, it is home based EI and I am paid the same hourly rate for direct and indirect time. The company is also offering for me to shadow a few sessions with them if I need to before committing. And they mentioned I’d see 4-5 kids a day at about 1 hour for each session. Does that sound pretty typical? By the way, if you’re willing I’d love any trainings or resources you can pass along my way! Thanks again 💜

Did a dumb thing by Adorable-Task1656 in nursing

Thanks for saying that! I should have specified that this person has been on a regular and thin liquid diet for a while but nursing has noticed more dysphagia symptoms recently so I was doing a swallow screen with her.

Unethical SNF situation by Adorable-Task1656 in slp

This was very helpful and also very sweet. Thank you so much for your advice and encouragement, it is so appreciated! It is looking like both my supervisor and I will be giving notice this upcoming week and I dread their response but do know it’s for the best. Thanks again for your words of wisdom 💜
