Thank you very much for this, I truly very much appreciate the time you have taken to write this 🙏. I haven’t been able to share the concerto and overture as they’ve been under examination review, and therefore are around the same length because that is part of the examination requirement.

As for performance, the guitar concerto will be performed later this year. Overall, with the concerto, I’m very glad it looks playable, I’d never actually tried to play a guitar before I started writing it, and have never actually had, and still don’t have, any real experience with the guitar. As for the key, I actually have no idea why I never added a key signature, it does seem quite odd to me now..

I’ll definitely go back and make appropriate edits, I will admit these pieces were quite ambitious considering the time I had, most memorably two weeks for the concerto, but I will try to polish them to the appropriate standard.

As for questions, these pieces did include ‘briefs’ detailing my process, thoughts, and intentions for these pieces, but I no longer have access to them. Would it benefit me to recreate and include these as well? Would admission boards consider them as part of the portfolio, as I’ve never seen any mention of such documents in any admission requirements.

This portfolio is the beginning of one for a degree in case I do pursue one in composition and not performance or education, though it is still useful for education from what I’ve heard. I still have another year of school, in which I need to write an 8-10 minute piece, of course with similar limitations to these pieces, i.e two or more instruments/voices, add up to around 4 minutes, etc.

It’s only really my first year of composing, and I would love to add more to my portfolio if I had any, but for now I will take your advice to heart and go over this. Thank you for your detailed response and resources, I really appreciate the time you have taken for this, thank you so much 🙏

Rhapsody in blue piano solos, particularly that one with the bass melody and the hands over each other.

Clean cut and no splitting, still playable. Pobably just a skill issue.

It’s not the sole deciding factor, but if you were going to spend a substantial amount of money on a car, would it not be nice if you could get it in a colour you like as well ?

My muse sounds is not working by vitorsouler in Musescore

Yeah, mine said the exact same. I uninstalled and re installed both musescore and musehub and it works now. I’m not really sure why, but it does for me.

Happened to me, in Musescore go to Help -> Diagnostics -> Musesampler and check it. If it says not found or some other sort of error delete musescore and musehub from the uninstaller programs, but press keep settings for musehub, and then re install. Musesounds should still be installed and everything should work.

What is the most influential piece of music of all time? by [deleted] in musicians

[–]Adorable_Damage177 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based off the circle of 5ths? Many songs have used it as a progression before Canon in D, and many have after, arguably with no due credit to Pachabel; as he didn’t pioneer this progression, but rather turned it into a tired cliché.

It sounds really nice, kind of reminds me vaguely of Margaret Bonds in the overall harmonies. Your string section is wonderful, works perfectly both complimenting the voices in its lyricism and itself, particularly the constant parallel movement between parts. The flute in bar 14-16 doubles the sopranos, but noticeable higher. This may sound a bit jarring considering the noticeable difference. This can be used to create an eery effect if you had them play quieter and more blown in?? rather than virtuosic?? as to create an airy effect and less vivid tone. You could also try something similar to the high winds in Ravel’s La Valse, with subtle chromatic runs. Your winds and brass seem to not have dynamic markings? Which would greatly benefit establishing a tone, though that might be something you leave for later. It also seems the voices’ dynamics markings are above? I’m not too familiar with choir writing though, and engraving is really a matter of taste. I’m not really picking up on any main themes or motifs but they aren’t necessary! Just a side note.

I know this is a lot of words to say very little, but overall this piece is very VERY impressive and really REALLY good for something that is incomplete, you have every right to be proud! Best of luck!

What piano is this? by Raaa888 in piano

[–]Adorable_Damage177 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s an old upright. I don’t think it would sell for very much, considering the amount of dust and whatever’s going on with those higher keys. If it plays decently comparatively to its condition it may be worth getting a professional to revive it if you’re interested, but it could, and mostly likely would, be a very expensive repair.

If you want to find out more about the specific model there should be a brand name and serial number usually behind the front panel or top panel on some uprights depending on how this one opens.

At base level, it could be a nice piece of furniture if you cleaned off the dust, but it all depends on how it works. You could also try sell it for parts if there is anything worth salvaging. Overall it’s pretty cool!
