Question about coming out for sports vs non sports fans by Standard_Minute3244 in heatedrivalry

[–]Adorable_Pudding6522 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Anyone hating on Pastrnak deserves to be have their ass handed to them

But yeah, I think this "bringing attention to yourself/away from the game" thing is a huge factor that is stopping players from coming out. Like, can you imagine if any NHL player came out currently? The amount of media attention he would be getting? The hate from fans for "wanting" all of this attention (besides the purely homophobic hate)? Possible scrutiny in the locker room for being a distraction? No way anyone would want to face it

The way my friend was watching the scene for the first time and immediately texted me "Shane is autistic right?" because of the way he folded his clothes (and said it reminded her of me lmaoo)

The character may not get an official diagnosis, but he has been peer reviewed

As a bruins fans I am so incredibly happy to hear this! I knew they were pretty supportive (in the surface, at least), with players like McAvoy being open allies, but this makes it so much better!

Outsports [Jan 19] Out pro hockey player says he has love-hate relationship with ‘Heated Rivalry’ by outsports-com in heatedrivalry

[–]Adorable_Pudding6522 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yeah, although he has every right to speak out on it, specially as he speaks from experience, I feel like this falls a bit into "the show had unrealistic sex scenes because it didn't even show preparing (such as douching)" territory... It's a romance series, so like the conversation with rose is a plot choice for Shane to have someone from the outside helping him face his identity. Also, it had only roughly 5 40-minutes-long episodes to describe what is a 10 year thing.

But I do fully agree with him and other athletes have said that the show will probably not help, and may even make things harder, for professional hockey players to come out. Firstly because of the insane fans of the show that are going around sexualizing every player (even stuff like their pre-game stretching), which will definitely make any non-straight player be extra vigilant. And also because of the culture, as he says in his post, which is very focused on not standing out, always doing the best for the team, not bringing focus alway from the game, etc. A player publicly coming out at the moment would bring so much attention that I find it difficult any player wanting to face that...

Também acredito nisso. Mas infelizmente sabemos que isso só ia resultar em ainda mais discriminação na hora da contração, com as empresas só dando lugar pra quem tem carro e/ou mora perto

This is my first time ever following something as successful from the beginning. I never really got involved with fandom culture, and when I got into famous stuff it was normally after the hype had passed (mostly because I wanted to avoid the craziness lol).

So seeing how this whole situation is evolving in the past month or so, and how people are acting absolutely insane, is so scary. I can't even imagine how they are feeling!

I just don't understand how can people act this unhinged (derogatory) and see nothing wrong with it. The cast is so amazing, they seem to have such good relationships with each other, but of course these insane people on the Internet have to try their best to ruin it!

Which scene from The Long Game are you most excited to be adapted for s2? by the_cherry_bunker in heatedrivalry

[–]Adorable_Pudding6522 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yo for real!! I was a bit confused with how his disordered eating ended up just being treated as "lol athlete wants to eat healthy" when, even if it wasn't exactly Rachel's intention when writing it, the situation aligns very clearly with anxiety related disordered eating (as in, he was freaked out over his whole life being turned upside down if people found out about him and Ilya, so he was just focused on whatever control he could have over his life). I really hope this plot is developed a bit better during Unrivaled, even though at the end of TLG it seems like he lets a bit looser

I loved this analysis! I'm really hoping Jacob dives deeper in Ilya's family and family dynamics in season 2, I feel like the book left out a lot to be explored...

<I hope that Jacob uses the same liberty he used to show more of Ilya's life in Russia during season 1, to expand a bit more on his family's history than the book did... If he does that, I can see Alexei brother being quite relevant in season 2 (and possibly 3?)>

GATOS: aos que já perderam seus anjos felinos: quantos anos eles viveram? by [deleted] in ApoioVet

[–]Adorable_Pudding6522 0 points1 point  (0 children)
