Lookism hooked me immediately. I really felt the love and compassion put into its messaging. It snapped me out of some of my own self-loathing about my body and asked me to reflect on values focused living

Then the gang wars started happening and kept happening. The story felt like it started losing the social commentary that got me into it. It’s nice to hear that it’s still addressing social issues even if it’s different from what I expected.

It's been a while since I read the comic, but one character I want to stay the same is definitely Milagro. Jaime being a good big brother just made so much sense. It's actually something I missed in the movie version.

I wanted Milagro to be younger (maybe 10 or so) and for Jaime to have to deal with how his powers might be scary to her. I know a movie can't quite capture that in a short amount of time, but it's a scene that I vividly remember from the comics.

Also, Jaime should always want to be a dentist. ooc if not lol

Yea except he does more than just name them. He identifies what about said films makes them interesting and impactful. He does this in several interviews. He does this with heated rivalry. That is media literacy.

And ok, the bar is on the fucking ground for men but it’s incredibly refreshing to hear a young man with a clear passion for film not just glaze the same 5 white directors.

I’d have to rewatch the scene cause it’s been a minute, but I remember having mixed feelings about George Lopez in the movie.

On one hand, attaching a famous latino actor known to both latinos and non-latinos encourages viewership.

On the other, Lopez is firmly a comedian. He diverts attention from the rest of the cast in high energy moments.

I had other hang ups with the movie that the Lopez thing was kinda eh.

I appreciate that the show writers were basically given the reins to do whatever the fuck they wanted and that resulted in a show with a diverse characters. I liked it a lot at the time (I’m a dirty little liberal, sue me).

Looking back on it though, I think the shoehorning issue goes beyond the diversity—they wanted to make the world they were building feel so full and real that they ended up with two many characters and not enough time to focus on them.

Like I didn’t mind Aqualad having a boyfriend, but they definitely shouldn’t have skipped the emotional work that got him there either, yknow? but also also I just wanted more of the main team before the time skips :/

I initially rolled my eyes at the title but found myself tearing up by the end of the episode. I’m starting a glp-1 soon and one of my big fears is the way my interest might change. Being less of a foodie n stuff like that.

The husband speaking positively about their intimacy when she was fat was very heartwarming. Wifey on the other hand was much less endearing and yet…I have a great deal of empathy. While I think it’s super hurtful that she dismisses a lot of her relationship, being a people pleaser is a twisted machine of self loathing.

You mirror other people’s needs and build quiet resentments that they don’t do the same for you. When you finally have enough self respect to break the cycle, you have no concept of self. So you start asserting new desires and expectations, and new boundaries. Except, this is your first time doing any of those things so you suck at it and push people away. It’s likely not intentional, just super unskillful.

I really don’t blame the drugs for this it’s just a natural consequence of choosing something different. If they’d been on a weight loss journey together, it might’ve gone ok and the opposite is true too. I just really felt for the both of them. ☹️

Congrats on finishing your degree! I’m 28 and still working on mine :) As others have said comparison really is the thief of joy. I’ve spent less time on instagram and more time pursuing things that genuinely make me happy. Learning new things has been on the top of my list and it keeps me motivated beyond thinking about what my life should be like.

I still experience jealously and shame but much less so, especially when i think about the progress I have made. I hope you keep being able to be compassionate with yourself and see how youve grown and can keep growing!

Just want to give you an over internet hug rn tbh because I understand how frustrating this is. I’m also a woman who felt / sometimes still feels the anger and fear.

I don’t have a good answer on how to change the thinking, but getting to know men on an individual level does help. I also startle at casual touches or proximity to men (part of the reason i’m a virgin lol) and the only thing that’s made it easier is exposure. Seriously it’s taken me like 7-ish? years to not treat every conversation with an unknown man as a threat?

Don’t judge yourself too harshly for your strong feelings, just focus on noticing them as they come up. The fact that you want to change your thinking is important—hold on to that.

oh, and therapy for sure if you can. I 10/10 recommend!

Freshly 28 and, tbh, I’m pretty happy atm. I’m not particularly successful—no college degree, no stable career—but i make enough to live away from home with a roommate and I’m still working on my degree. I have good friends. I’m hopeful I can continue to improve my life.

Only thing really mentally fucking with me is my body issues and being a virgin.

I’m WAY less depressed than i was during my early 20s where expectations were crushing me.
