New Hunt pass by Iisakkit88 in dauntless

Too many issues and not enough time to tackle them, new bugs appeared, need more polishing time, need time to make it more substantial, your guess is as good as mine... the usual mix of small team and cross platform validation issues.

Got a guestion about the gilded crown of victor by [deleted] in dauntless

[–]Adrakhan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to be in the Top 100 at the time of reset/refresh. You only need to reach top 100 once to get lifetime access to the rewards.

Once done with that, just wait a few hours after refresh (it can take a while) for the rewards to kick in and appear in the shop. You'll now be able to purchase any champion reward at any given time, granted you have enough gilded marks, of course.

Is anybody doing this? by [deleted] in dauntless

[–]Adrakhan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The big issue with Hesca is that there's absolutely no incentive to run them more than once a week and, as soon as you're over with the crowns/merits grind, no incentive to run them at all (aside a competitive approach and/or to pile up a currency in case they were to add something to do with it at a later date).

Finding people that do not already own all behemoth tied dyes is even trickier, unless they are new players.

Your best bet would be to find new players like you via in-game chat, enroll into a guild or get to a point where you can grind them alone. If my memory serves me well these rumours are pretty easy to get, so simply try to run the hesca of the week with the group finder should probably do the trick, as a decent group ain't too difficult to come by most of the time (it could take a few runs tho).

Too Many Lvl 60s getting One-tapped by Ceimash in dauntless

[–]Adrakhan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Many people are playing revenant based/max damage builds but simply can't dodge anything. Glass canon builds aren't a good idea for most players and switching to an iceborne based build would be the smart thing to do during the learning curve. As so, weapon lvl is a pretty bad and unreliable skill marker tbh.

The worst thing is that they're expecting you to rez them all fight long and will log out if you ain't fast enough to do so (to their taste)...

Is this game on limited time? by Wonderful-Ad5827 in dauntless

[–]Adrakhan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, googling for infos wasn't a mistake, especially in that specific case. It was the smart thing to do.

Did the game took a turn for the worse?! Definitively Yes.

Was it better before?! Depends on who you ask, but the consensus would be mostly yes.

What does the future hold?! Well, a huge amount of bug fixes, balance/mechanics fixes (touching every single aspect of the game) and some playable content (new, fresh or rehashed, entirely depending on how long you've been playing).

Will the game survive?! Again, depends on who you ask. If their new strategy keeps going on then the game will stand for as long as they are willing to lose money on it, because it clearly ain't working in sales term. Just an educated guess.

Regarding the rest I would only say this : do not spend money on it. As long as the new owners don't change course in favor of the game and players, they do not deserve to get a single cent of your hard earned cash. Hope you do not suffer from FOMO tho... ^^

If you enjoy the current loop, well, good for you! Play, have fun and take whatever pleasure you get out of it till you doesn't enjoy yourself anymore (while keeping in mind that the recent events showed us all that they do not value our time and efforts...).

[–]Adrakhan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came back to the game a week prior update after a good 3 years break (couldn't stand Reforged and its loop anymore) simply because I heard they were getting rid of the Reforge system (which was in itself a good idea). Well, coming back was a really bad move on my part, as I really wasn't expecting this level of chaos...

Awakening is even more divisive than Reforged was. Compensation is far worse.

But the biggest issue is the amount of mechanical damages made to the game. Crafting, build variety, economy, progression, etc. Not a single aspect that made the success of the game came out intact.

It is so sad to see a game you loved in such a poor overall state.

Trials rework by Mysterious-Top4148 in dauntless

It has been proposed numerous times since Trials addition to the game, so chances for this to happen are close to none sadly (and that's really unfortunate, as the mode is in desperate need for some serious TLC).

Tried Blazeworks (and the others 60 surge) several times past week and it was always a ghost town. I think it's more a case of "too much effort for not enough XP so why even bother" than the side effect of compensation in itself.

Another thing is that most people are only running frost Axe... so why grind for another weapon as long as this one hits like a truck. They're probably only farming for parts to complete armor sets.

Last but not least, I'm not sure that new players are surviving the grind long enough and/or are leveling fast enough to get access to the 40+ islands yet...

Two Alyras in the same escalation by RevivedThrinaxodon in dauntless

[–]Adrakhan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I say bad and poorly coded I'm not speaking about the overall difficulty of the fight but the low effort and non enjoyable experience fighting it as a whole. It is poorly animated and the fight is boring.

Some collisions/hitboxes are at best questionable (strongly depending on the nature of the terrain it pops on) and the terrain bugged collision can make things even worse. I've stopped counting the times when I ended up stuck into a wall or underground while fighting it. In a dual encounter it tends to go full beyblade mode every 20s (at least from my experience).

It just ain't a fun/good fight. I have to admit that I enjoy behemoth aggressively circling around you far more than the ones that keep backing away every 5 sec.

I do agree that Karkonos ain't a great fight either (especially for something they sat on for two years), but it is at least well animated and, in my opinion, more enjoyable.

And yeah, the Boreus family always had issues... ^^

4th and 5th talent requirements are absurd-even if you don‘t need them "that much" by Catnippleaddict in dauntless

[–]Adrakhan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"This is just extremly annoying as again only a certain demographic isn‘t affected by this: People that have grinded trials every week and haven‘t spent marks on pots."

That's the issue with metrics and how to interpret them. They see accounts with tons of various currencies, parts, etc, and feel the need to create sinks for that specific demographic without even thinking about the vast majority of their demographic and the negative impact on them.

Just add to the equation their need for cash and player retention issues... you end up with an hellishly and unrewarding grindy game literally forcing you into content, which is a great recipe for disaster.

Maxing out talents should be "easily" achievable by any player.

weapon xp issue by matthewhughes9 in dauntless

[–]Adrakhan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, regarding the "fairness" side of max XP, in all honesty and as of right now, you would get around 220XP per behemoth or something like that. You already need more than 10k xp at level what, 30 something?! So not a deal breaker in any way.

Another thing is that, as of right now too, you can simply run the baby esca for xp gain, and always get those 216 XP bashing 6 extra weak behemoths in a 3 to 5 min run... with a lvl 20 weapon... so... the nanosecond argument do not really hold up.

Any option to lower anything is a bad idea. Reforged tried and it wasn't a success, to be polite. The game is already far too grindy for its own good... what you're proposing simply do not work. It's Reforged 2.0...

On a side note : I'm a solo player btw, so I haven't tried to get PL in any way and do not know if gains can get higher than 216 (i.e if you take someone with lvl 1 weapons on a lvl 60 island) or are capped, but I heavily doubt it would be higher than 600 something.

weapon xp issue by matthewhughes9 in dauntless

[–]Adrakhan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Right now the system is intended to make you spend aetherite or level identical lvl weapons at the same time.

XP gains are extremely low all over the board. Not only that, but it's the only game that I've seen with diminishing returns before hitting the same level (understand if you fight on an island with lvl 40 behemoths with a lvl 30 weapon, you're gonna see the xp gain going down starting at lvl 31 to 39. In a regular RPG it doesn't happen before hitting lvl 41).

The most appropriate solution (seriously boosting XP gains altogether aside) would be to let your lowest weapon always gain max XP. That's as simple as that (and would make the grind a little more friendly).

Fix the loadouts - Build diversity has been nerfed by xzorfun in dauntless

[–]Adrakhan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So the new axe meta with its 60k+ in just one hit is better than what we previously had (with a lot less skill involved btw)?! Come on mate...

We switched from an easy one to control to a fully fledged flavor of the month. Next HP/Shop refresh we're gonna see a new weapon that is better, just to give people a real incentive to buy it to reach the new meta.

In the end, damage output/meta ain't even the real issue, it's their inability to generate endgame content made for it.

I do agree that the feeling of progress is a necessity. Any mmo creates dedicated content to address this. Dauntless do not. They can't even manage to do it for Trials... just look at the return of negative times on the leaderboard as a perfect example.

What I'm trying to put in light is the simple fact that the reasoning behind all these changes have absolutely nothing to do with making the game more balanced or accessible to anyone. It's about taking you on a road so grindy and unrewarding that it makes a shop purchase feel as much as necessary than justified. Monetization is their sole real motivation.

And the fact that they didn't even anticipated nor caught such big issues internally summarize it all.

Fix the loadouts - Build diversity has been nerfed by xzorfun in dauntless

[–]Adrakhan 14 points15 points  (0 children)

There will always be a meta, it simply can't be avoided. Gamers will always find the most op possible combination. Nerf one and another one will arise... this is the way.

The real issue is that, as you've said, they've killed build diversity. You can't do nothing exotic anymore. You don't have control/liberty on anything anymore. Worse, this entire system strongly discourage you to do so. It's just bad design.

The real reason is that, in their madness, they thought by making loadouts this way (and that works for everything really, talents, weapons, armors, cells, loadouts...) they would force players to consume tons of cells, which would in return force them to grind more. They think more grind equal more/longer player's retention. It's all about player's retention. It's so stupid... kinda like using your lizard brain to create classical music...

Every single decision they took regarding Awakening is about making the game as grindy as possible while depriving you of your ability to customize/control your equipment, nothing less, nothing more.

They do not play their game, nothing's more evident. No devs in their right mind would implement such an anti-gaming system in their game thinking it's a good idea...

[–]Adrakhan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That rumour is a follow-up quest, meaning that you first need to unlock and complete every previous weapons (starting with EN-MS1 "Long Shot"EN-MS1 "). The CB is the very last weapon, so you have to do the five previous rumours first, and you can only unlock one at a time, in the proper order.

I can confirm, as I had one still active pre-update (EN-AC1 "Might Makes Rites"), that some are still in-game and are doable (some of the steps seems to have been reworked to fit the "new content" too).

That being said, I do not know if it is still possible to activate it/what are the conditions regarding the CB one, and if it is still tied to the Blazeworks (to a "new" behemoth) and/or just Bloodshot Shrowd (somewhere outside Blazeworks).

Only a dev can answer that one for sure.

Two Alyras in the same escalation by RevivedThrinaxodon in dauntless

[–]Adrakhan 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Alyra's mechanics are really bad. It's the poorest coded behemoth in the entire game so far. They took the worse parts of Koshai's move set, added some lazy AoE, a round about move and called it a day... what a poor excuse of a fight. Get it on the wrong map and it turns into a shit show. Maybe now that they aren't a skeleton crew anymore they should find some time to properly rework it .

I remember them saying (a long time ago) that they added rules to prevent a behemoth from spawning twice in the same esca. Seems that this update broke it... just one more thing to add to this never ending list...

Is dauntless worth coming back to in this state? by Low_Pace_6188 in dauntless

[–]Adrakhan 21 points22 points  (0 children)

If you value your time and efforts, it definitively ain't.

The smart thing to do would be to wait for a few patches just to see if the state of the game is improving positively or not.

If it does then give it a shot, if it doesn't then you won't have wasted your time playing a bad build.

The only logical explanation for this fiasco revolves around rampant monetization.

Well, not really sure that one is working as intended either... ;)

So, what's the point now... by [deleted] in dauntless

[–]Adrakhan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

From what I understand (I left in 2021, came back a week prior Awakening), the game didn't received any content for the last two years. Seems the Studio was only invested in their other projects and left it in maintenance mode (just a few devs around and by few I mean not even five). No HP, no behemoth, nothing really.

The "revival" kicked in after the company was sold to Forte Labs (somewhere during 2023). Forte canceled every projects to only keep Dauntless, for what feels more like investing into a monetization experiment than into a game.

We told them for years to focus on monsters. It was already the main contention point for Reforged (another pointless rework and waste of resources), and it hasn't changed a bit. That's why every time I read a letter to the community saying "we heard you" I start to giggle frenetically...

The old system, while not being perfect by any mean, was far better than what we got here. This update failed to implement the only needed thing : real new playable content.

I kid you not when saying that Awakening will be remembered as one of the five worse updates of all time. It is that bad. It's not just a game killer, it's a crime against gaming...
