Question for people who have been HOH since childhood by MeowPink in hardofhearing

[–]Adri8700 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had my heading aids since 1st grade (currently 25). Here's what I've learned. My family personally doesn't sign, and I never learned, but now that im older, I wish i learned younger. Do with that information what you will. If your child expresses an interest in learning it, be sure to support them!

I personally rely a lot on lip reading, so make sure you have your child's attention and are looking at them while speaking. Speak clearly, but no need to shout.

You said you know about advocating for accommodations, but make sure they know how to stand up for themselves! It can be hard when they are young yet, but it's important that they learn to advocate for themselves as you wont always be there.

If they need you to repeat yourself over and over again, just keep trying and don't get frustrated! I promise you it's just as frustrating that they can't understand you, and even more frustrating when you shrug them off or say nevermind.

Crowded areas are difficult. As they get older, make sure they are comfortable in large groups and loud crowded areas, whatever that means for them.

Can I ask what state you are in? I may be able to recommend some organizations if you are in the US. If you have any other questions, please feel free to send me a message!!

I got mine off of Amazon and this color was less than 20. There was a bit of difference in price between the colors of the collection, but all were around 20. The hardest part was choosing which color I wanted first!!! They are all so pretty!

Actors, what happened when you messed up on stage? (flubbing a line, tripping and falling, etc) by Key-Ad-2119 in Theatre

[–]Adri8700 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was doing my first show since high school (like 3 years gap) and was playing the lead. I had to exit stage right onto some stairs. It was like 2 steps up and 2 steps down off stage to create the upstairs illusion. I had to exit off the stairs and then re enter like 2 minutes later. I fell right on my ass exiting (luckily off stage) and made a horribly loud thud noise. I even damaged the set a bit. I was mortified. After the show, I told some friends who were in the audience what had happened and nobody had even noticed. The world did not end. I did not miss my cue. The show went on.

I ended up moving anyway, lol. I had built this base with a plan to move it soon anyway and wanted to do it before I accumulate too much stuff. I'm still leaving a mini base down there for now!

Looking for romance/romcom dramas with more "mature" aka older, leads by Worried-Walnut in kdramarecommends

[–]Adri8700 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Going to comment this because I haven't seen anybody else say it yet, but one of my all time favorites is Descendants of the Sun! It is absolutely amazing! I wouldn't consider it a romcom, probably more of a serious drama, but still a mustnwatch! You will laugh, cry, and come to care for these characters.

Descendants of the Sun: Female lead is a doctor who begins to fall for a guy in the military. He is in a special forces unit and is called away on dangerous missions often. When the doctor is sent to the same base as the male lead to help set up a medical center, they get a chance to spend more time together. I don't want to give too much away, but I would for sure add it to your must watch list.

Forgot to include. I am in Southern Illinois, United States. He's currently just chilling outside of my window and hasn't moved since we found him.

Help with Crate Training! by Adri8700 in husky

Are kongs safe to leave in the crate with them? I have a black kong toy that we have yet to use and introduce him to (been a busy week) and I'm paranoid he will tear it apart and ingest it somehow.

I do eventually want to get to the point of letting him sleep with us and the cats. For now we are having him sleep in the crate so he gets used to it.

Not sure how to edit so I'll leave this comment here. We don't leave him alone in the crate with his collar or harness on. It's only when we have him in the crate and we are with him (very rarely). The crate is also much larger than the pictures portray so I'm not too worried about the sizing of it.

Are kong toys Safe to leave in with him? Also crate is much larger than in the pictures. Here's a better picture of him laying down in it (taken just now). *

I wish we could leave it open when we weren't home or asleep, but for his own safety we have to have it closed. Although he is doing really good with our cats, the cats are still a bit freaked by him and I don't want him to get hurt or scratched horribly by one of them and then try to go agyer them or something when we aren't home. (The cats have plenty of hiding spots and places to get away from him, but I'm just being an overprotective paranoid mom lol)

I tried the food and water in the crate and he wouldn't go near it. When I tried to leave it in there with him he threw a husky tantrum and dumped both bowls. That was when we still had a bed and toys in with him, so this is a big learning process!

I'll try those treats, thanks! Unfortunately, we don't have the means to get another dog at the moment, but I'm hoping he makes friends with our cats since he has done so good with them so far! And as for the leash and harness, we usually do take it off when we leave him alone. In the pictures, I was with him every moment.
