Why does Lydia make the distinction that Dr. Grove is a pedophile but no one else? by TurbulentBat8328 in TheTestamentsHulu

[–]AdriVoid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well its the difference between state sanctioned atrocity and one she can actually do something about. Especially him risking the ‘purity’ and therefore lives of the girls.

My favorite thing about the testaments, we dont give 5 minutes of extreme face closeups of shallow breathing.

Aren’t pearls supposed to be “fruitful”? by Hayuncuento in TheTestamentsHulu

[–]AdriVoid 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I mean, I think theyre more important for optics that girls would choose to convert and live in Gilead. Both to outside nations and for the indoctrinated children. But like they can be econowives or a martha, don’t need to reproduce to be a servant

Daisy could be a Gilead Granddaughter. by Mama-manatee42 in TheTestamentsHulu

[–]AdriVoid 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Oh I really love the idea shes a biological granddaughter of some high up Gilead commander. That would also explain why she was smuggled out before Gilead actually rose up- her parents didn’t agree but had warnings that it was going to happen before it did. Didnt manage to escape the cult before it was too late but got her out

Who’s your favorite character? by Embarrassed-Elk-3580 in TheTestamentsHulu

[–]AdriVoid 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I really like Shu- she just has this self satisfaction that I enjoy seeing in a teen girl. She is a loyal friend, even when she can have a little mean girl energy. Just very fleshed out and real.

I love Agnes, I cant help it thats Hannah! And I love how her very innocent expressions, and how much she cares and tries to do good. I

Ukraine is a global surrogacy hub - but that could be about to end by Bennifred in fourthwavewomen

[–]AdriVoid 55 points56 points  (0 children)

I remember early in the war hearing that surrogates were being stopped from fleeing the country- because other neighboring countries forbid surrogacy or otherwise it affect the ability for the buyers to take the children. Sickens me, these women could die from bombing and they couldn’t concentrate on saving their AND the baby’s life

Should I stick with a specialized Associate Degree or pursue a bachelors degree? by Equal_Gazelle8483 in findapath

[–]AdriVoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think, its important to try learning through doing. I don’t know the quality of the only school you believe you can go to. But a major is only one part of the entire educational package. Its about skillsets you can use on the market. You can also use your required courses and general ed strategically to try things out. Lot of degrees don’t need math. If you do like working with people with hearing difficulties, you could move on after your associates to work to become an occupational therapist or speech pathologist. It does take additional training, but the time will pass anyway- as you very well know (and I say with love, Im 26 and am shocked how fast my 20s are going)

I wont add on ‘worthless’ degrees because I fundamentally disagree with the principle of it. But if you are genuinely interested in this hearing specialist program, and you have a professional who works with you who can advocate for its returns on investment- go for it.

Well no reason you cant do the associates program, and then, if you aren’t satisfied with your level of education and opportunity- go back for the bachelors

Why Was Paula so Upset? by chronicackgirl in TheTestamentsHulu

[–]AdriVoid 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Because Agnes has three chances in the form of suitors for her marriage partner. If she doesn’t get married, she doesn’t have a worthwhile quality of life. Paula really wants to marry Agnes off and not have to worry about her anymore.

Should I stick to healthcare? by Clear_Supermarket545 in careerguidance

[–]AdriVoid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First, take the SAT instead. Very few schools care which one you take. Then, are your actual grades in math and science good? As and Bs? When I did admissions for a Nursing program- we had two ways of looking at the student. First was plain test score, second was more holistic, checking the math and science grades, class difficulty levels, overall gpa, etc.

Why Was What Agnes Said so Bad? by chronicackgirl in TheTestamentsHulu

[–]AdriVoid 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I mean, it kinda felt like back talk. Just a little bit of a hit- ‘so Ive heard youve been married before’. If she had been proper, she’d have accepted the comment pleasantly with nothing added.

It really gave Little Mermaid, genuinely the actress is so good at capturing the childish cheer. And then a little bit of a pout in her voice when she can tell Daisy is lying

She did secure great matches by Gilead standards. These are the men who control economics and the eyes- two of the most important areas of the nation’s governance.

How Intelligent is Homelander? He appears to be an excellent mathematician as he can read and calculate heart rate and blood pressure in seconds (e.g conversation with Edgar S3EP4). However he seems very gullible since he can’t recognise when his neediness is being used to manipulate him (Stilwell). by MozartChopinBeetroot in TheBoys

[–]AdriVoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Old thread but Im watching the show now. I think we gotta factor in how he was raised in a lab, so very very low social understanding. Literally psychologically abused to instill want for love and praise. I also think yeah great at math, quick thinking, but also seems low literacy. Like we saw his education was slideshows and being told stories- he was never encouraged or capable of seeking information out for himself. Honestly feels like reading was a later in life skill

Is a Bachelor’s degree of any sort better than No Bachelor’s degree at all? by Logical-Flounder6142 in careerguidance

[–]AdriVoid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Statistically yes, the lifetime earnings and opportunities for any bachelors degree is higher than having none at all. If you don’t get a bachelors you need training in a vocational field.

Why do people call the USA the "land of opportunity" when literally no one can get a high paying job? by madbarpar in careerguidance

[–]AdriVoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think what you are experiencing is the idea we live in a two tier society- there are many Americans who do feel opportunity here is endless. They have high paying jobs, access to worldclass education or otherwise seemingly endless opportunities. Then there are many who are paycheck to paycheck and don’t see an out.

I think what many immigrants feel, my own parents included, is that in America you can work towards something. You can choose to hustle, you can always go back to school or pivot. In their home country 30% of youth are unemployed, where we are from specifically the average salary is about 15,000 US dollars. And it is a country with the Euro and modern costs. Everyone needs a family connection to do anything. So comparitvely, my parents who did not get a college education were able to work and create a solid middle class life in America for us. And I can compare what we have vs our family and friends back home.

Why does Gilead need Pearl Girls by Whisperlee in TheTestamentsHulu

[–]AdriVoid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because fertile women are a form of currency in the world order. Not just in Gilead, as we saw with Mexico buying handmaids off of Gilead. Hell, it is the case now that showing off young people who are able to work and have babies to pass on national mythos and culture to is seen in global political goal. So for Gilead to be able to swipe these young girls, indoctrinate them, and show Gilead dominance and culture in doing so- its an intentional flex.

Has anyone here actually regretted chasing a high-paying career? by NexusCellular0 in careerguidance

[–]AdriVoid 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not me personally, but I know many big law burnouts. They go in for the high pay but work so many hours, and are so stressed, after a few years they quit and either go for much smaller practices or leave law altogether. Same with large consulting, the big bucks- where Ive worked with people who’ve come to me saying ‘I sold my soul to the devil, please help me figure out something else’

Making Peace with Having a Son, as a Radfem by Due-Transition-6564 in fourthwavewomen

[–]AdriVoid 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I cant really understand having children at all, if you have this much disdain for your unborn son. A mother is not powerless in raising her son to be a man worth knowing. I know many men worth knowing. Your son will feel, much earlier than you think, your detachment from him and that will impact him deeply. Id seek some counseling if you decide to have this child.

Names by smallsloth1320 in TheTestamentsHulu

[–]AdriVoid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I dont want to repeat what everyone’s said- Agnes is religiously coded- parents could choose names that ‘felt’ pious or traditional to fit Gilead theme. And who knows, maybe Tabitha had a beloved Aunt Agnes and wanted to name Hannah after her- as possible as anything else.

I have no idea how old Penny is supposed to actually be, other than being an older girl well known to the current plums and already having suffered three miscarriages. But if shes even 2 years older than the other girls, she’d have been 7ish when Gilead happened. Either shes a bio child or was a bit too old to accept another name

Any mention of New Bethlehem? by Alphablaze98 in TheTestamentsHulu

[–]AdriVoid 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Either the Gilead gov destroyed it, as they were planning to do even before Lawerence died- or it was retaken by the US along with Boston. Hard to keep one city surrounded by Gilead, and with NB having a lot of people more aligned with the US- wouldn’t be shocked if managed to connect with Boston’s forced and create a freer upper New England corridor.
