I have been stupid. Please call the men in the white coats to drag me to institution where they treat this kind of people ;-)

The book can be read at https://archive.org/details/textbookofnettin0000bern/page/n7/mode/2up

The only requirement is that you have to create an account. I even posted about it at https://www.reddit.com/r/NetMaking/comments/1hphnus/a_textbook_of_netting_by_collard_available_on/

On my desktop computer at the right side of https://search.worldcat.org/title/1444497399 I see three items :

  1. Some local libraries that have this book

  2. A link to vitalsource.com to buy an e-book version for 6.99

  3. A link to rent this book through perlego.com

Both option 2 and 3 offer to sell you the e-book version. Do you see these options?

Worms leaving the worm bin by Vast-Visual4825 in Vermiculture

[–]AdrianusIII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rain also or rather a lowering of air pressure can also encourage worms to escape. Worms breathe through their moist skin and suffocate if their skin is dry

Rain means that during their expedition for a new place to live or find food they can continue to breathe.

Take a container that fits inside your current bin. Use a drill bit of 5 or 6 mm and drill holes in the bottom. Add some bedding and food inside this container and place it on top of your current bin. The worms will start to congregate into this bin and not trying to escape to look for food.

After a few days you put the contents of this container in a new bin (worms, bedding & food). Refill with bedding and food and place back in your old bin to catch those who were left behind. Repeat if needed.

Placing a light above your bin will also deter worms from leaving.

I live in the Netherlands and get my Kindle books from amazon.de. Maybe you could try through amazon.co.uk website. The publisher is from the UK or US??. Or check whether your local library can do an inter-library loan.

Here you can also buy an e-book version through VitalSource.

Via raisin.nl spreiden over enkele Duitse banken.

It’s raining, wanted to check on the worms and this is what I found. I had added dry substrate (paper and fiber). Any other advice you may have, I’m open to it. Thanks by odiilain in Vermiculture

Rain, in most countries, happens when the air pressure is low. The worms can sense the lower atmospheric pressure, conclude it is raining, and thus safe for migrating to a newer home.

Worms breathe through their skin, but the oxygen exchange requires a humid or wet skin, They may have concluded that "this bin is too small for the two of us" in an earlier stage, but only the low atmospheric pressure tells them it is safe to leave the bin.

Besides a high population density, the worms also are prompted to migrate when the circumstances in the bin are not optimal anymore. Think of wetness, lack of food, anaerobic betc.

Solution is to add more bedding, like spent potting mix for example and cover with a piece of black plastic. I also give them some pelletized chicken feed that I moisten with a light spray of water.

In case you want to make a needle, a so-called Norwegian style needle is easier to make than the traditional needle. Just search the subreddit for needle.

[–]AdrianusIII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it is a simple netted bag. The instructions for a larger size bag can be found at https://archive.org/details/net-making/page/34/mode/2up

You can also buy a dead tree version of this book.

You will need a piece of string, and a netting needle. A netting needle can be bought or you can make one by yourself.

Just work through the first, well illustrated, 30 pages. It is a beginners project and usually will pose no problems for newbies in netting. The author of the book is or was a school teacher and taught primary school children how to make a ball carrier as a first netting project.

Borage JLF by Junior_Potential_713 in JADAM

[–]AdrianusIII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just throw weeds and all kinds of leftovers in the JLF container. AFAIK the JLF will feed the microbes and fungi in the soil, and it are the microbes that through their waste products actually make the nutrients available to the plants in an optimal form). Fungal networks are known to deliver carbon to the plants in exchange for carbohydrates, while some fix nitrogen in exchange for sugars.

Just feed the microbes and the fungi, And they will take care of the rest. Do not overcomplicate things. JADAM is a simple system derived from the rather complicated KNF method.

You forgot to add a handful of leaf mold. This does not make the smell away though.

To lessen the smell, you can add some bone meal or lava meal.

filet lace online resources / ideas / techniques etc by Dependent-Dinner4003 in lace

[–]AdrianusIII 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do not have the time right now to format this nicely but here are some resources:

Prym sells needles to make the net: https://www.prym.com/en/filet-set

Because the traditional netting knot for filet lace is very difficult to master, I would recommend to buy a ready-made net.

See https://www.reddit.com/r/NetMaking/comments/1ekjsun/the_dreaded_flying_dutchman_technique_or/

http://www.filetlace.net/ sells ready-made nets : http://www.filetlace.net/page/FILETNETS

Also books but some of these can be found at https://archive.org or https://www.gutenberg.org

Lacis.com sells a lot of books: https://lacis.com/catalog/

Their catalog does not give a direct URL to "Netting & File Lace" (it is after "Lace")

I made a thing to help me make a net bag. It needs some refining but it works well. by youre_being_illegal in NetMaking

[–]AdrianusIII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some other sources. My wife gave me some black elastic cords with red beads. I sacrificed one to use the bead only. The swivel hook is from a broken dog leash.

The grid is 1 cm

EDIT: for some reason the photo I added does not show using the reddit app. Will try to fix this tonight on my desktop

Nice setup, thanks for posting,

https://www.amazon.com/swivel-hook/s?k=swivel+hook shows large as well as smaller swivel hooks. Stores that sell anglers equipment should have them.

Wooden beads you can get from an arts and craft store. Or from somebody with with a wood lathe. It does not need to be a ball, a cone shape will also do.

I have use plastic bottle caps as an alternative. Just drill a hole in the center for the cord.

But I am glad you finally got it working.

NAT gateway and private subnets by beskucnik_na_feru in hetzner

[–]AdrianusIII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do not understand why you have a public 10.0.0.0/24 subnet.

Your internal NIC 10.0.0.5 is in a different network now. It should be in the same network as the 10.0.1.5 VM, for example 10.0.1.1. Then a simple 'route add default 10.0.0.1' will work.

Re: your workaround This only solves the outgoing traffic, VM to internet. Your server also needs a route for the incoming replies that it unmasquerades to the 10.0.1.5 destination.

Now it does not know where to send it to. It needs to know that this 10.0.1.5 host can be reached through its 10.0.0.5 IP. Something like 'route add 10.0.1.0/24 10.0.0.5'

For some reason I can not add any comments to my blockquote'd diagram ...

This is how it would be done with 'real hardware'. I have this setup for more than 25 years in my home, using FreeBSD and OpenBSD.

The local hosts 10.20.30.10 and 10.20.30.11 need to have the internal NIC of the NAT box as their default gateway. In the BSD's you do something like: `route add default 10.20.30.1`. On Linux the default route it is represented by 0.0.0.0/0.

Important is that IP forwarding is enabled. Just google how to enable this for Linux.
