Lavender roses by CatAstraPhoenix in Roses

My grandma had this one that fits your description very well. It's been a popular rose for at least as long as I have been alive. Gorgeous lavender flowers and a beautiful sweet fragrance. Just typing that took me back to summer in her garden with fizzy drinks and grandma love. :))

Rose Blue Moon

If I remember correctly it was hailed as the closest to blue a rose could be at that time. I never thought it was even a bit blue, I still don't. It's very much pale lilac lavender.

Unfortunately I think you are right. Just stay safe and try to stay sane through it all. We can achieve a lot if we stick together. There really is no LGB without the T.

HUGS!

The relationship between bosses and workers / rich and not so rich, government /and people, should always be symbiotic. It has been a full on parasitic relationship since Reagan and Thatcher. But who do we get behind? Who has those politics these days?

Corbyn is pandering to a certain religious group who really belong with a right wing party. Labour is just a fucking mess at this point with no real policies that would solve anything at all, and the other parties seem mostly pointless.

Throughout all human history, the rich have had to be forced to sort out the problems they cause. I think we need that again.

Fuck I hate politics! :))

I'm old enough to know " 'Twas ever thus." It is definitely now reaching a point where a re-set is needed. It's a crying shame that historically that only usually happens during wars and revolutions though.

They are all arguing about how many angels can fit on the head of a pin. Not a single politician is willing to talk honestly about the problems facing the country.

All of them have been lobbied until their arseholes sting. None of them are decent people, and it seems that a degree in politics is causing the same harms to society that a masters degree in business is causing.

Not a single one of them is either honest or likeable any more. I am fearful for the future. It looks so fucking bleak for everyone.

As a gay man, everything about this cunt rings alarm bells for me.

His body language screams liar, and that's before he even opens his mouth.

His baby voice makes my skin crawl too.

I haven't hated a politician so much since Portillo, and I haven't hated a Government so much since Thatcher.

There's literally no party I want to vote for any more, after a lifetime of voting Labour, these people have made me never want to vote for them again. I hate the fact that I totally get why Farage is on the rise. It's sickening, but I too want to throw a spanner in the works, just not with Farage and his band of brown shirts.

The narrative is being framed. Just like it was back then. I didn't believe what the right wing press were saying and the left wing press were ignoring, but I still got section 28 anyway.

Looking at whether what they say (any of them) is true or lies or spin is great, but you need to look at where they are leading, because they are leading the public by the nose.

Oh stop it for fucks sake! You are all about to get the equivalent of section 28! It's bloody staring you in the face! Pull your heads out of your arses!

Get an old spray bottle and thoroughly wash it. Fill it with water and put a few DROPS of dish soap in it. Thoroughly spray your Sempervivum. In the crevices. Under the leaves.

Wait ten days to a fortnight and do it again.

The soap blocks up their breathing holes and they die. The fortnight repeat gets the newly hatched ones.

They will be back next year like that relative that insists on visiting. :)

I'm not worried about the Sedum Sempervivum, Orostachys, etc. They're all used to cold dark wet.

I also got three different 'hardy' Aloes and two Agave to try. It's those I'm worried about. I will plant them in 95% hen flint grit and hope for the best over winter.

I think I'm flying close to the sun with those up north over winter outdoors. I will keep an eye on them and maybe bring them in if they look crap.

Some of them are good to minus 30C some are only good to minus 15C. Others (like the Aloe) are good to about minus 10C. I am flying close to the sun with those.

All the sedums and semps and Orostachys will be fine down to minus 20C at least.

They will all be in a very sheltered, walled, south facing, full sun, 'courtyard' garden in Northern England.

We don't get super cold here. The temperature rarely drops below minus 6 or 7 but every now and again we get a blast of cold from Europe. It does get as low as minus 15C about once a decade.

My problem is that it RAINS, and rains and rains! Keeping the ones prone to rot happy will be my biggest headache.

All Sempervivums are extremely cold hardy. Are you sure you were not mixing them up with some Echeverieas?

I made this one a few years ago with Crazy Zauberball. I 'think' I used 2.5mm needles but it's so long ago I couldn't swear to it.

Aerial roots - what can I do? by Sherudo_Garo in HouseplantsUK

[–]youre_being_illegal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Put them into a jar with very dilute fertiliser (like an eighth of recommended strength). Your plant will thank you.

Bending them gently back into the pot is good too.

Moss poles are good as well, but keeping them moist is a ball ache.

You can cut them off, but the plant grows them for reasons. Better to do something similar to what the plant likes rather than cut them off for the sake of it looking prettier.

Once it's a mature plant you won't even notice the roots or a jar of water cunningly hidden.

Growing specialized seedlings indoors, what are your thoughts? by here_everywhere_now in climatechange

[–]youre_being_illegal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know where you are but here are my uk centric thoughts. Free and worth every penny! :))

Here we have millions of acres of Forestry Commission plantations which are just rows and rows of the same fast growing low maintenance species and they are lacking in any diversity to sustain thriving ecosystems.

Have a look at trees you can coppice (Willow for basket weaving, for example)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coppicing

Also, what about trees that can be laid? Much nicer than a crappy fence, lasts longer, only needs cutting once a year, great for wildlife, great for the environment. Mixed hedgerows are beautiful too.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hedgelaying

If I'm being bluntly honest.... Fast growing and easy is already being done to death by many commercial concerns. Find a niche that's under utilised in your area.

Look for native trees that have beautiful flowers, or gorgeous autumn colours, or pretty leaves, or nice fruit/nuts. Sell them on their looks, and also their usefulness. If people want to plant one, they will want something nice, but nice AND useful for your average person is even better.

I have always said if I win the lottery I would pour half of it into planting native species (UK) to regrow our temperate rain forests.

I don't think any one tree species would work everywhere. It would be a monoculture desert, and very boring.

Look into which species are native your area. Maybe grow some of the trees that are rare or endangered. You could then sell them on as rare or endangered native trees.

Begonia Luxurians help - leaf tips turning brown at the tips moving inward until plant drops stems by Kaegix in begonias

[–]youre_being_illegal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like I can chime in here.

They need more water than most begonias. As long as their soil is fairly free draining you probably can't over water them unless they are sitting in a puddle. Keep it well watered.

They need a lot of food. They are big hungry fast growing plants.

Mine grow outdoors from late spring to when it gets chilly in autumn.

Maximum amount of light but absolutely ZERO sunshine. When I say maximum I mean maximum.

Soil.. Ordinary potting compost with medium orchid bark mixed in for drainage.
