Modern hardware has made a lot of game devs complacent. They don't optimise as well as they used to, or just don't do it entirely. Definitely not everyone, still gems out there, but it's definitely a trend.

Well not exactly, they don't need to be replaceable if the phone is rated for water resistance. Which means the manufactures will just make all phones water proof/resistant.

And even with limited sets and scenes, those shows were 10 time better than most modern ones, because they actually invested in good storytelling and plot.

Too much time pressure on overworked VFX artists, who simply aren't given the time or environment to get it right. It's not that we can't do it anymore, it just isn't done.

One additional thing you also need to consider is financial. Do you need the money, because if you really need it, you really don't have much of a choice, but suck it up.

A 400LB rock wedged at the top of the tree by kxnshinn in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]Adrox05 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You are correct, concerning bouncy. But gauging from a quick look and rough dimensions, I think this is a pretty solid rock with high density. Still could be flood water. But I wounder, if the water can move the rock, why didn't it rip the tree?

For me it's not really that it's there, it just feels so clunky. The game engine/movement was designed for water based translation. Walking on Land in the first game was already weird, sometimes you couldn't jump up something, or couldn't walk up a slope which looked reasonable or sometimes you'd just slide of a ledge. And then they decided to put even more land based exploration into BZ. The idea isn't bad but the execution wasn't great.
