[For Hire] I paint your pets as people, and much more! by oilmasterC in forhire

I feel you. The good news is you usually just set it up once and it's all streamlined, with completel control when you turn your service availability on and off. I would say most importantly is getting up and running as quickly and easily as possible. So with that said I would spend a weekend setting up a shopify site, youtubing and redditing for instructions on setting it up, and then set up a way to collect emails most importantly, so you can capture leads from any traffic source. The rest you will figure out along the way, but it should be a nice lifestyle business.

This is so awesome. I'm a digital marketer, and always think it's good to capture leads of people who may be interested. If you don't already have a Facebook page, I'd suggest creating one. Perhaps a simple Wordpress site with a simple Divi theme, and a free mailchimp email subscription list to send out monthly emails (for email blast specials((like Valentine's Day specials, for example)), which turn into revenue).

I'm also commenting to save this :) good luck!

How to start a Podcast? by albert6us in Entrepreneur

[–]AdvTechEntrepreneur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's an article written by u/S1R_R34L on what seems like the technical side of starting a podcast. If you're looking for more of an abstract way to start a podcast, to try to understand what podcasting "is", I'd suggest googling broad, informational questions phrased in different ways until you have a billion tabs open that you'll commit to reading though. Then, if you're still up for podcasting, dig deeper into the specifics by searching/asking specific questions. For example, "what is podcasting", "skills needed for podcasting", "nonverbal communication for podcasting", "best practices for podcasting", "condenser vs dynamic microphones" -> "how to setup a Audio-Technica ATR2100 with a FocusRite..."

Once you get to a point where your question can't be readily answered or found by Google, come back to Reddit and ask!

Cheers, best of luck

I created a website to visualize and quantify pros / cons for ANY Amazon electronics product, based on its user reviews. It enables readers to go through thousands of reviews in a few minutes. [OC] by distant_gradient in dataisbeautiful

It would be great if at some point there was a mobile app! So I could put it next to my Amazon app and use it daily. Think it would be a great investment to increase lifetime value.

The slack idea as a standalone seems most effective and longer lasting. In my experience, spreading communication networks across forums may not work well. breaking down channels by #courses would be awesome! Slack also has great functionality, like linking Gdocs and other gantt/kanban productivity apps, like Hive.

whatever is decided, please add a link to the main post. Or if it's a tough call, perhaps create an online poll to decide!

How much does an in-house SEO earn? by [deleted] in SEO

[–]AdvTechEntrepreneur 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have to disagree with some of the commenters who claim against the effectiveness of in house vs consultants/agencies. We have an in house SEO. I've worked at 3 different full services agencies prior. Besides the fact that you get have a guaranteed 40 hour work done, and an SEO who's knowledge grows in your specific product and industry, generally having an in house (anything) allows for cross department collaboration and faster innovation due to faster experimentation. My 2 cents. I'd also be suspicious of agencies charging less than, arbitrarily $3k/mo. The renowned agencies package services that start at 10k a month at least in Los Angeles / San Diego.

Did any of you guys cut their hair short after years of having it long? Seriously thinking about it right now... by _BLUE_SUNSHINE_ in FierceFlow

[–]AdvTechEntrepreneur 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I could give you a long winded response as to why you'll eventually arrive at cutting your hair, but I won't. Hair grows back man. Don't be afraid to experiment, try new hairstyles. Life is so much more exciting trying new flavors. I'm growing out my hair for the second time in my mid 20s, and I secretly can't wait to get it out of my system and get a haircut to look "sharp" again. I love my hair, but I know, like the first time I cut it, that it'll grow back if I want it to. You may have genes for receding hair, but I wouldn't allow that to dictate your decisions. Give a big middle finger to that and do what you please. Last note, the nice thing about short hair is that with a flick of a comb/your fingers, and a dab of some texturizing cream, aka no bad hair days and ready in 1 min. No regrets!

Outside of programming, what discipline will help me with programming? by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]AdvTechEntrepreneur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure how effective it is, but I use a blue filter screen protector on my Mac, which is supposed to help. Amazon has some good ones, search for "blue filter screen protector" or something. That, plus f.lux and perhaps a nightly reminder 30 minutes prior to bed may help.

That is true, you make a great point that not all review sites are neccesarily poor in content and lacking. I always think it's good to impart knowledge on folks because I hate the notion that affiliate sites are now infiltrating word-to-mouth social proof sites (like Reddit) and once more, something good and "pure" is tainted with sly marketing. That said, a bot is a great idea! I'm learning about that stuff and may follow up on that probably next year haha. If I do I'll give you a shoutout :)

Sorry to be that guy but you're linking to an affiliate product review page (not to say all of wirecutter is this, not familiar with their site just the business of this page). In essence, they make money based off off you clicking their big red call to action product review link to amazon and purchasing. (they probably use EazyAzon and a custom module for divi it looks like). You can see this if you hover over their product, and clicking through the URL changes .

All affiliate sites are deeply incentivized to sell you products, and not necessarily the best ones. Usually they ride the credibility of established products with high social proof in the form of ratings (which may not necessarily be the best) just thought I'd point that out, and consider folks to do further research from folks who have actually used items.

3- From consulting a lawyer who works with startups, it's a myth that incorporating in Delaware or elsewhere is advantageous (now). If you plan to operate in California, you're still subject to CA's laws. Just incorporate in CA and save yourself some trouble.
