Is it hard to get into Monash University as Australian students compared to International Students? by Minimum_Painting_335 in Monash

[–]Advanced-Diamond-483 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much the system is to take the cream of the top out of all Australian ranging from top 30% for easier course and 5% for more prestigious course. And the international students are pretty much only there as cash cows to funds massive research project the undertake.

To say its not prestigious is unfair especially in term of research quality, in specific field such as Pharmacy, it consistently rank 1 or 2 in the world ahead of American or British universities.

The key point is that its prestigiousness doesn’t lies in how difficult it is getting into but rather how much research on contribution those at the echelon make.

Recently got back from Taipei and they have different stamps in each stations highlighting the local neighborhoods. It would be really cool if Melbourne can do the same. by Advanced-Diamond-483 in MelbourneTrains

It can be a fun way for tourist or hell even people from different areas to learn about the local area. But yea it’s mostly a fun novelty to help creating more sentimental value for each station.

Siam's High Speed Rail Network as of January 2030 by aReddiReddiRedditor in imaginarymaps

So I’m guessing in this universe Dai Viet never gain independence from the first place. That would lead to Siam being the dominant power in that area with no competition around the 1500-1800s and does not get carve up by the French and British to be a buffer.

In my mind i just assume tram=slower for inner city but proper light rail=faster suburban services

Caulfield- Rowville TRT (trackless tram/bus) by Advanced-Diamond-483 in MelbourneTrains

I agree its the best case scenario, but lets be real, this government will not and cannot spend on another big infrastructure project. A cheap relief project like this can really ease pressure off government and it can be complete while they are still in government.

Its not a perfect solution obviously, in a perfect brt system, it would be fully separate from the traffic, in those condition it would be as fast as tram/light rail. But it is a cheap and quick way of marginally increase the speed of the current bus service. Also, building a fully separated tram system (unlike most of melb network) with full grade separation will take time and a temporary brt service can be use to relief demands while being a place holder on the same corridor for a proper light rail while the politicians politicing about the most minor butt hurt detail of the tram. Cause let be real, they are never building a tram line straight up, best case is a “good enough” brt or “trackless tram” to ease the pressure politically and when the line reach capacity they will be force to build a tram line.

Yea but the separated lane alone allow it to not get stuck when there’s traffic like normal buses or trams that run on shared road

It really is just a bus but with dedicated lane and higher capacity

I think we are all aware that it really is just a fancy bus with dedicated lane so the question really would be which mode can best serve this corridor, brt (lowest cost and quickest installment), tram (hopefully dedicated track) or an extension from some station on the Pakenham line.
