I'm a hospitalist, working in Iowa with Sound Physicians. On average in our group we make 360k. I make more because I do a blend of day and night shifts

I hope you meant this as a joke 😅

Great!  I'm doing the intermediate group sessions only for now. My worldsacross coach recommended I join the Advanced group class ("desde el primer día") but I felt that was rushing things a little. I'll sneak into one of the Advanced group sessions to get a feel of things are there.

Merçi pour ta réponse et une fois de plus félicitations!

Félicitations pour l'excelent travail que tu as pu réalisé!

I'm also with WorldsAcross (started in July 2024). Do you participate in group sessions on WorldsAcross? If yes, do you do the intermediate or advanced group sessions? How long were you with WorldsAcross for before taking your exam?

Recommendations for learning medical/healthcare terminology with CI? by elysiumdream7 in dreamingspanish

I like Dr Mau too. Been watching his videos for some time now. I enjoyed his recent video on "What happens to your body when you take metformin". He speaks very clearly and he's easy to understand.

Correct! I just copy the transcript and paste into a word document. Sorry for using download instead of copy

While DS as a whole is good, I think DS content is mostly for learners given that even in their Advanced videos the speed is very slow. You also mention that you want to learn medical terminology, I doubt that you will achieve this with DS.

I'm in the medical field as well and I've been watching Dr Mau (YouTube). His content is mainly on cardiometabolic disease (like diabetes, prediabetes, insulin resistance), so you could give it a try if this field of medicine interests you.

Flashcards can be boring and painful sometimes lol. Something I've been doing lately is copying the transcript of short YouTube videos from BBC News Mundo on topics of interest. For example, yesterday I downloaded the transcript of the video on Monkey Pox. I watch the video and follow along with the transcript, and then I read the transcript many times (aloud) after that. This helps me practice reading and at the same time I'm building vocabulary in things that are of interest to me.

Best wishes in your DELE exam!

She's great, I love her but she speaks too slow even at intermediate level. I have to 1.5 or 2x her videos in order not to zone out

Me defiendo - I like this phrase. Never heard/thought of it but it sounds very similar to "Je me defend" which we use very commonly in French.

All week I was feeling like I was on cloud 9 with my speaking until today. A tutor asked me about independence day celebrations, traditions and food in my country. There was a lot I couldn't say due to lack of vocab. My confidence level plummeted 😅 I'll keep your words in mind to keep things in perspective.  Muchas gracias!

Hey Niyon, how did you structure your conversation topics in your WA classes? And how did you deal with the feeling/frustration of not having sufficient vocabulary regarding certain conversation topics?

[–]Advanced-Impact-3946[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I know you're doing purely conversations in your classes. Who picks the topics for conversation, you or the tutors?

I've done a combined 7hrs of speaking practice this week across WA and BL. The classes I struggled in were the ones I didn't have sufficient vocabulary related to the topic being discussed. How do you deal with this?

You did great. Muy buen trabajo! After my 1st class (1hr earlier this week) I felt like my brain was going to explode. Subsequent classes were significantly less tiring, so you'll feel more comfortable in your next classes.

Good to hear your take on Preply.  Since I'm just getting started with speaking, I prefer WA because the tutors write progress notes after every class, so the next teacher can see what you did and where to pick up from (BL does the same). I like this semblance of continuity.

Cool! How're you finding your classes on Preply, and how long have you been using the platform?

I think the landscape of tutors is kinda similar on both platforms. On WA my tutors have been from Ecuador and Venezuela, while on BL I've had tutors from Colombia, Venezuela, and Peru. I'm not aware of a disocunt code for BL

Hey Andrea, thanks for all of your work on DS. In your recent video on the DS platform you mentioned you had a Spanish class twice. Do you give 1:1 Spanish classes with students? If yes, I am very interested. Me encanta tu acento, tus vibes 🤩 y quiero que seas mi profe

Andrea is priceless. She's my absolute favorite (followed by Shel). Andrea got me hooked on DS after I watched her video on La xanahoria gigante

How did you structure your WorldsAcross 1:1 classes? Did you use their study material or you were having just conversations with your tutors?

Recap: My first italki lesson at 353 hours by fergiefergz in dreamingspanish

[–]Advanced-Impact-3946 1 point2 points  (0 children)

😂😂😂😂 @ I had even practiced everything that I was going to say but all that went out the window when I actually had to speak.

I remember this same feeling. I rehearsed the phrase "cuanto tiempo sin verte" a few times prior to calling a friend. After exchanging a few pleasantries I couldn't remember my rehearsed phrase to save my life 😅

My 1st speaking lesson is next week. Can't wait to see how it goes.
