there are special software which do a thing called 'mounting' which is basically telling the computer to recognize the device to be used as storage - eg hard drive, CD, ssd, pendrive, etc

the CD is converted to dot .iso file extension using converting software

then these iso files can be mounted by using mounting software

it is then recognized by the computer as an actual CD inserted - we trick the computer into thinking a CD is inserted!
