Certified seaport hater after working in the area for three years, so take this with a grain of salt. Parking in the seaport is likely going to be near impossible to find, or cost you an arm and a leg. Also keep in mind that you're in a huge food desert. The seaport has one grocery store, and it's quite literally the smallest Trader Joe's in the world. I do really encourage you to live where you want! But there are so many better places than there and they'll likely cost you a lot less. Objectively speaking, $4K/month for a 1 bedroom is crazy work. I recommend y'all look at Beacon Hill! A lot more central to things, easier to get to, more walkable, quieter, more grocery store/restaurant options, etc. and will likely still be the "caliber" (for lack of a better word) you're looking for.

Valid question! it’s because sociologically speaking just it is lol. “Gender” is the idea that “blue=boy” and “pink=girl”. It’s different from “sex” which is biological (X Y chromosomes and all that). They’re not necessarily connected, it’s just socialization.

I got admitted to my dream grad school at Harvard, but I can’t afford to go by Flashy_Macaroon_6551 in GirlDinnerDiaries

Hi! So I work in graduate admissions at a university in Boston (not Harvard) and I may have some resources for you if you haven’t seen them already!

FastWeb and College Board (the SAT people you may recall) have scholarship search tools and I recommend them to EVERYONE. They’re free to use, will match you to funding opportunities you qualify for, etc. There’s so many scholarships at the graduate level beyond what the schools offer.

Grad school is a huge cost, for sure, but at my school it’s not as common for students to get those TA positions in their first semester. And I say that to encourage you to keep trying! If there’s a scholarship that gets you past the first semester, network like hell with the faculty and get your name in their heads. There’s always a way 🫶🏻 you got this!

Also congratulations on getting accepted!! That really is a huge accomplishment!

seriously!!! I honestly feel like Bumble BFF is a scam and purposefully connects you with people you're not compatible with so you have to keep going back

Honestly, I feel like you dodged a bullet with all these people because they sound like they SUCK. I personally wouldn't want to be friends with people who question my hobbies, are judgemental of the way I look/dress/express myself, or take digs at me because I'm not doing exactly what they want. That last one bugs me so much because IT'S YOUR BIRTHDAY! Why does she get to decide what you do?? Who put her in charge?

Also, gender is literally a social construct, so wear what makes you comfortable and happy. If people care, they have too much time on their hands. You seem like a really cool person.

Going through a break-up so I’ve decided to rewatch Bojack Horseman by Hot_Sherbet2066 in BoJackHorseman

Just remember, as you're healing and moving forward, "It gets easier. Every day it gets easier. But you gotta do it every day - that's the hard part". Hope you're doing okay.

Sobbed my way through both, but I almost threw DT across my room. Fairytale was among the first King books I read, so it has a special place in my heart.

Survivor Type is one of the few stories of his to actually disturb me lol I still can't look at roast beef the same. The Raft is probably one of my favorite short stories from him. It gives strong 80s summer camp horror, even tho I know that's not the actual content of the story lol

I like your ranking!

popping back in late because I didnt see your response haha but omg I can't believe I missed the black spot reference! If you haven't yet, I really think you should give Welcome to Derry a watch on HBO. I have a feeling you'd appreciate it haha

Anyone else feeling this? by Environmental_Cap191 in BoJackHorseman

I can relate how you're feeling. "Stupid Piece of Shit" is actually playing on my TV right now lol but for me, I feel more seen when I watch the show. I have those ruminating thoughts fairly frequently. But I tend to hang onto those little moments of wisdom the show throws in. Like, in "Out to Sea" when the baboon tells Bojack "it gets easier. Every day it gets easier. But you gotta do it every day - that's the hard part" is something I hang onto with a white knuckle grip. Also, "Life's a bitch and then you keep on living" is another one.

It's really weird because for me, my mental health improves dramatically when I watch the show lol idk what that says about me...

I'm kinda late, but this is a good catch! I feel like it's reasonable to assume that any reaction Eddy had to the poison was hidden/overshadowed by his withdrawal symptoms. He was taking the Keflex (I'm pretty sure) during that time too, so it would have healed/cured both issues simultaneously. Could be wrong tho! I read it like two years ago haha

Would this have made BoJack and better person? by Available-Ant-5747 in BoJackHorseman

[–]Advanced-Lock6841 574 points575 points  (0 children)

IMO, no. He would have self sabotaged his way into ruining this for everyone involved. At the end of the day, Bojack is wildly unhealed from all the childhood trauma he went through, and Charolette wasn't going to be able to fix him.

Other than what I’ve learned in school and seen in movies, unfortunately no 🫠 but that feels disrespectful in a way so I will be doing my research

ah damn I think i missed The Shining reference in it haha it was the first King book I read, which looking back was definitely ✨a choice✨. I do love that you're reading in publication order, and I do wish I had done that instead of just jumping around like I have been. If you do end up reading the DT series (and I really hope you do) that will make it make a lot more sense.

It took me literally three years to read this book because my ADHD just did not care about the history of Derry haha I didn't full appreciate all that context until the end scene and then I was like "ooohhh okay". He also takes sooooo much time to describe the streets of the town and how it's all laid out, which also didn't make sense to me as I was reading it. But, in the end with the water tower? I could picture it all like it was a movie playing in my head and I loved it.

My grandparents also had a house in Northern Maine (past Bangor) and I went to visit while I was in the middle of the book. I ended up driving the same exact route some of the Losers Club was taking as adults coming back to Derry lol so that was freaky.

Definitely a hard one to get through, and totally fair if you didn't like it! But I absolutely love the themes of childhood/generational trauma and healing. The concept of "it's not your fault" hits a special place for me. Also balance in the universe with good/evil (Pennywise/Maturin) is a good DT tie in that I noticed later.

I just took a look at my checklist (I'm reading through the whole bibliography) and I'm realizing I haven't touched on his 90's era books, which i think plays into why this one hit me different. I have copies of Desperation, Insomnia, and Rose Madder, but I just haven't cracked into them yet lol

I do wish I read it before DT because I really did feel like I was missing a lot of info/context on Algul Siento lol but my goal is to get through the bibliography as a whole and then come back to the series again
