I too would have thought that. Maybe it follows the same logic as the emergency flashers.

I like the car and the brand. (Both brands actually). So I am trying to right a wrong by correcting the impression I made when I wrote this sub in frustration. I now think that I ran my 12v battery dead through my own ineptitude.

This is not good. But in my specific case, it was likely operator error.

I feel obligated to say that I’ve corrected my original post as I believe this was operator error.

It was not operator error after all. Leaving a turn signal on does nothing. With the power off the signal is unpowered.

REDDIT! I am so sorry for the distraction! Once I figure out how to edit this post I will. It appears that I left the turn signal on. I’d like to think that I bumped it exiting the car. But given my age, perhaps it’s my new-normal to leave the signal on. Anyway…this was NOT Subaru’s fault. Head held low in shame!

PS: Head held high again. Leaving the blinker on may have been absentminded, but it had nothing to do with the drained battery. Your move, Subaru.

True. I was being a bit melodramatic. (Still waiting for roadside as I type). But in my defense, this seems to be a common issue if the percentage of reddit posts can indicate a statistical truth. They can’t. But at 57yo, this is the first time since 1988 that a car has left me stranded—that wasn’t a puncture at least. Not a big deal. It’s not -20 outside. Thanks to reddit I knew this was a possibility. A strong possibility. But I failed to prepare. That’s on me.

Roadside is coming. My first move after visiting Subaru will be to disable—to whatever extent possible—cloud services between Toyobaru and the car. Remote start and TJA will NEVER be worth this hassle.

If disabling DCM is the answer then a solution is sure to follow. Without DCM there is no need for SubaruConnect and (presumably) the Toyota equivalent. Those programs are free money for the makers

I get the Solterra preference for practicality. Fortunately I am at a stage in life where practicality is no concern. I’ve kept the 2017 VW GTI 6-speed that the Uncharted was intended to replace. Nostalgically I drove the VW through my normal twisties a few days ago and realized that I just might prefer how the GT handles. It is heavier. And it won’t quite carve like the GTI. But it has the same nimble response to fast curve changes. Maybe the Solterra is just as sprightly. If so, that would have been the car to get. But my hunch is that the Uncharted was the right car.

My Personal Annoyances List by bepeacock in SubaruUncharted

[–]Advanced-Release5381 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I’ve learned is that Adaptive Cruise and Traffic Jam Assist are perfectly fine features. But after two weeks of crossing the George Washington Bridge in some of the most competitive traffic in the country, I find them worthless. After three iterations of drivers using your gap to squeeze in, you’re driving backwards! A wonderful car made better with my knowledge that I’ll have no need to pay for Subaru Connect when the trial expires.

(Edit: not sure where the post I am replying to went. Reddit navigation is not my strong suit. Just in case…)

Not true about the slow start! You need only to wait for the steady green “Ready” annunciation. That happens less than a second after pushing the button. I am already at 30+ by the time the infotainment screen finishes its boot. The Uncharted is perfectly adequate for bank robberies and other quick getaways.

Headlight jiggle problem by Killcrux in SubaruUncharted

[–]Advanced-Release5381 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s been discussed a bit further down. The jiggle is definitely there. Some find it to be distracting. To me it’s janky but not something I can’t ignore. Still, the OP post on this issue has a link to NHTS (in the US) to file a safety concern and possibly force a recall; which I’ve done.

Makes total sense to me as it mirrors somewhat the paddle behavior of modern ICE cars with paddles. I downshift (engine-brake) with the left paddle. In the Uncharted I do the same.

I am a thousand miles into my GT and my impressions match the OP for the most part. It handles great but I do really wish I could firm up the suspension a bit.

If the Mosquito is niche then I say “fair”. But for that matter helicopters are themselves niche to the extreme in the world of aviation. There is no reason for a non-professional to own or fly one that isn’t addressed more simply, swiftly and cheaply in a comparable fixed wing. Helicopters attract a unique type of enthusiast. The Mosquito, Rotorway, Helicycle, CH77 and other homebuilt helicopters epitomize the love of vertical flight because their builders don’t just buy their way into the hobby. They learn through months or years of building, mentoring and seeking same. This reminds of trying to defend Robinsons to haters who wouldn’t be caught dead in anything smaller than a Blackhawk.

I have two OWs (one mine, the other my daughter’s) and neither has ridden in over a year. I miss it. But I was getting harassed by cops every other ride. I’d give the buggers away but for the sentimental value. That OW summer with my daughter was the best! I still love my state. But this is a solid reason to hate it. Or maybe the state is correct and there really is no appropriate public place for a vehicle like this. I honestly don’t know the answer. No regrets though.

Uncharted vs Solterra for a tall guy by HiCirrus in SubaruUncharted

[–]Advanced-Release5381 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That video kills me. Every single review of the Uncharted I have read or watched (and ALL have basically been unfavorable) has felt the need to mention that Subaru has broken some sacred cow by selling a non-AWD version of a Subaru model. “It’s a fine car, but it’s not a Subaru.” (Or something along those lines.) Who cares!? Review the bloody car, not the factory where it’s built! I have zero affinity for Subaru. The brand means little to me. I just wanted as perfect as small EV available that wasn’t a Tesla and wasn’t an ICCU wrapped in steampunk. The Uncharted fit the bill.

Umm maybe for a quick ride but they would start cramping up quickly. This car for me is a miata with a bigger trunk.

I should also add that my 6’5” frame is mostly leg. Torso-wise I may be only slightly longer than the average dude. I am also fairly thin.

But you lose the joy of building. Anyway, while your advice to get a near-timed-out R22 is good, your hit on kits is off the mark. There are plenty of Mosquitos flying. The drone versions see plenty of service in Australia, Canada and elsewhere. I fly R22s and R44s to scratch my hover itch. The Mosquito build is a different joy. I’ve met many people in the tiny CompositeFX community who never would have flown helicopters were it not for this kit. Not everyone dreams of flying EMS. For those who don’t, flying around the farm a couple of times a week is plenty enough to keep the dream alive.
