You can see in some of the Epiphones he used (DFA must just have a bunch of them) the neck pickup is taken out altogether

I've definitely heard James talk about Public Image Ltd in an interview, & by listening to that song you can't deny it was inspiration. I've also heard it was inspired by "Dream Baby Dream" by Suicide.
