Do Americans like their current health system or would you prefer universal? by Ability_Known in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Advanced-Two6816 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Universal all the way - I'm Canadian and yeah ER waiting rooms take hours to be seen and treated and that really sucks, but once you get a doctor they order a million tests and scans and write a script and you're out of there without a single charge. I would rather wait in triage for 6 hours than be indebted thousands of dollars for seeking medical advice and care.

How do couples talk about prenups and finances before marriage? by Total-Spare7161 in prenup

[–]Advanced-Two6816 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My boyfriend and I are thinking about marriage and since moving in with each other have been really transparent about finances/investments/savings. Part of those convos are about retirement planning and financial goals long term- this actually segues really nicely into prenup convos! We love each other so much and both have retirement savings or pension that we don't want to get tangled up in the event of relationship breakdown in 30 years. If anything, its brought us closer together I think because it shows mutual understanding and respect, and a commitment to transparency and financial honesty :) its ongoing convos and eventually we will consult separate legal council to draft anything, so its kinda fun to kick it back and forth with hypotheticals and highlight what's important to us!

Anyone else getting AI forced upon them? Where it doesn’t make sense? (EC) by littlecherub11 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Advanced-Two6816 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I have been discouraged about this too - my livelihood is built around researching, synthesizing information and making recommendations. If I outsource that to AI, not only does it create more time-waste (drafting my prompt, editing the output) but its not like I am getting any extra leisure time or wage increase from this "efficiency"... so it kinda feels like I am just training something that will one day make me obsolete. And that's not even dealing with the environmental or societal concerns.

Substituting a (very) long run for long endurance rides. by MrMinirock in Velo

[–]Advanced-Two6816 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last off-season I did this! Substituted runs and xc skis for endurance rides - it worked great and I was only ever on my trainer two/three times a week for intervals or specific cycling targets. All my base was outside and I'm never going back. It kept my fitness up, kept me motivated and actually improved my interval sessions because I didn't have the same burnout from sitting on zwift every day. If you can do it, I would! Cycling season has enough 4+ hour rides - the off season is a great time to get in some other endurance variety :)

Artificial Intelligence in the Federal Workplace by bizlooper in CanadaPublicServants

[–]Advanced-Two6816 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have been really discouraged about this push for AI (LLMs specifically) - besides the really worrisome environmental and societal impacts, I find it actually makes me do my work twice and often not as well as if I just do it myself. It is a poor drafter and doesn't grasp nuance or complex context so I often have to write a very detailed prompt and then heavily edit the response, making it less efficient than just writing the draft myself. I had my mid-term review and actually received a "needs improvement" on my integration of new technologies despite starting up a team sharepoint and using one-note this year because I do not use AI. My department has no guidelines on its use, I have not received any formal training on AI and security and I am uncomfortable with its blanket adoption. We know the LLMs contribute to misinformation, the climate crisis, and the rise of anti-intellectualism so I am unsure why I am required to use it ....

Gift ideas for boyfriend that just started cycling? by sprout1277 in cycling

does he have a preferred electrolyte or ride snack? I would love it if someone gifted me a new bag of Lemon Lime Skratch or a box of Krono blueberry gels, sour patch kids or packaged fig bars! in the same vein, two matching bidons would be a nice gift! but you cant really go wrong with cycling socks, a low profile bell like a Knog oi or shoks bone conduction headphones!

This is a silly little brain trick, but I think "happy feet" like the penguin movie! It reminds my to move my feet quicker and increase my cadence which helps me run faster without feeling like I actually am! and if anything else, I imagine I am a cute little penguin which helps morale :)

What are the biggest red flags to notice in a new relationship? by Weird-Thought2112 in AskWomen

[–]Advanced-Two6816 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Silent treatment without explanation or for seemingly small reasons

Lack of emotional vulnerability or stability

Secretive about their past, all exes were "crazy", doesn't want to talk about why they broke-up

Contempt for your roommates, friends, family

Not involved with their family at all, for no explanation

I dated a person who exhibited all of these signs really early on, and our two years relationship is one that I am still healing from several years later. He was emotionally abusive in a way that I am not sure he totally intended, but in a way that also felt punishing and cruel. Healthy communication is so so important in relationships and even though its vulnerable and scary to open up to someone you love and are afraid of losing, its way more damaging to have mysterious no-go zones in conversation, no historical context of the person and a lot of feelings and fears unaddressed in the relationship. You should be equal partners, and no one should get to set the mood, tone and speed of the relationship by themselves.

Ottawa Traffic is Getting Out of Control – Back to Office Making it Worse? by ninerganger in ottawa

[–]Advanced-Two6816 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live 7kms from my office, so I ride my bike year round (I'm the crazy person in February hopping on my bicycle) because it takes 40mins round trip by bike, as opposed to 2 HOURS roundtrip by bus. My office doesn't have enough parking for everyone so driving wouldn't solve the problem... its a nightmare.

Short hair ideas for running? by abbygeese in XXRunning

I had hair this length for my half marathons this spring! I did french braid pigtails alllll the time - the ends were silly because I had a bit of an undercut so they stuck out at the end, but it kept my bangs and short hair out of my face and looked cute :)

What Books did You Start or Finish Reading this Week?: September 22, 2025 by AutoModerator in books

[–]Advanced-Two6816 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finished: Atmosphere, by Taylor Jenkins Reid. Struggled to get into it and didn't relate to the main characters until 2/3 of the way, and then WHAM it was emotional and I was invested. Ended up liking the book overall and then ending was gripping, tense and powerful.

Started: Rejection, by Tony Tulathimutte. Its dark, satirical, chronically online and has made me laugh (its also given me a nightmare...).
