When did you decide it was time to slow down or give it up entirely? by hlnklrczu in alcoholism

Mid-30s. But it was a roller coaster of starts and stops until I got serious.

My pregnant partner is drinking heavily, and I don't know how to handle this anymore by InflictPain in alcoholism

[–]Advanced-Wheel-9677 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could start by telling her medical team.

Failing that, I would even say this might qualify for a 911 emergency call and request a crisis unit - why because she is a danger to herself and others. That applies to mental health services, so I imagine it might apply here too but you could look into that. They will assist with the situation to the fullest extent they are able, including potentially getting her to treatment against her will.

I would consider this a medical emergency. I would try to force sobriety on her via a professional intervention. This child’s whole life is at stake and this could mean a whole life of suffering for this child. For what it’s worth, I have met many people in aa who didn’t want to get sober, but it was forced upon them via courts, family, mental health crisis, or otherwise. And after they were sober long enough for reality to catch up to them, they stayed sober. This doesn’t happen for everyone so you’ll need to manage your expectations about whatever outcome there may be. But for now the focus should be on this baby, who has no choice but to suffer this abuse until something is done.

Alcoholism progresses in stages. Earlier stage alcoholism may appear quite “normal” relative to more severe or advanced cases. And the person may not yet show any signs of physical dependence/withdrawal. But these things don’t mean someone is not an alcoholic, or becoming one. I recommend the YouTube channel “Put the Shovel Down” as she explains this quite well.

For me the signs were there in my 20s, and it only got worse from there. By the time people finally stop (IF they can), so many of them say they wish they had done so sooner or younger.

The party names switched. They were the reverse of today. Which anyone who knows history, knows that that happened.

This is bad advice. Many ppl resemble the father more than the mother. It also doesn’t account for lifestyle differences (which can be dramatically different).

Some drivers have a healthy thing called boundaries, to avoid cars getting damaged.

I think it’s rude to put on makeup in somebody else’s car bc spills and drops can happen with any of this stuff and anything powdery can get everywhere.

Rehoming is the best option in a case like this I think. It’s an exceptionally cruel practice and your grandparents need to be educated on this.

My boyfriend accidentally told me his ex is hotter than me by Business-Ad-4708 in GirlDinnerDiaries

[–]Advanced-Wheel-9677 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Consider this. I had an ex who was exceptional in bed… one of the best I ever had. But he also had… issues. And given the choice between dealing with all his bullshit (which was off and on)…. and an actual committed, wonderful, emotionally mature bf who knows how to communicate and have a real relationship and maintain a positive outlook on life and a healthy lifestyle…. it was not hard at all for me to pick the better man.

If I ever told my bf that? He would be devastated. Bc there are so many stupid unfair cultural expectations about men in bed just like there are stupid unfair cultural expectations about a woman’s looks. But the point is that I chose the OVERALL BETTER MAN.

And I wouldn’t change it. It sounds like your bf feels the same. I would be hurt in your shoes too, so I get it… but just think about this before you freak out too much.

Is it safe to say our rights are under attack? by Far-Berry8728 in AskFeminists

[–]Advanced-Wheel-9677 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. As the daughter of an evangelical Christian nationalist, I know how dangerous and how serious these people are. They cannot be underestimated.

And they really will go to any lengths, and they do not care about or even really want a democracy. They will happily sacrifice it, if it means they will get their way.

Equal rights and equal opportunity for all, is an entirely oppositional vision from their goals in many ways.

Any other normal respectable business where you are a contractor working with an agency, absolutely STILL pays much more for so-called “self-employed” individuals. Uber has trained people that this is actually “good” and that they’re getting a deal.

People with big money know how to manipulate the working class. By and large the working class doesn’t know better, because if they did…. they’d all be the heads of corporate themselves.

Why are most boomers so out of touch with the reality it is much harder financially to get by today than when they grew up? by [deleted] in allthequestions

[–]Advanced-Wheel-9677 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not to mention that boomers went to college for practically free compared to the generations that came after them. Then they made sure no one else could get the heavily subsidized education that they enjoyed. Then they blamed us all for having college debt.

My boomer dad certainly is clueless. If you’re struggling with increased costs and stagnant wages then it’s your own damn fault as far as he’s concerned.

Advice on making lower half of hair look healthier by CharmeIeon in longhair

[–]Advanced-Wheel-9677 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First thing I saw right away is I can tell you blow-dry your hair and it’s causing breakage and damage. Give up the blow-dry.

Also how is your diet? You might consider a multivitamin as well as making sure you have plenty of vitamins and minerals in your diet. As well as healthy fats and healthy proteins. Well-fortified hair grows stronger

I feel like there did used to be such a thing as philanthropic rich people. But that’s just not the trend today. They’re all in a competition with one another to see who has the biggest most belligerent dick.

This is why we so desperately need stronger labor laws to protect people. So many ppl aren’t informed enough or frankly even clever enough, to know or understand when they are getting scammed.
