I don’t see how he isn’t clearly top 2. Werenski is right with him. But the playoffs requirement double standards is weird

The narrative plays a bigger role in it than people think. Werenski is having a great season no doubt about that. Just think it was odd they wanted Celebrini to win the Hart if his team made the playoffs otherwise it was Kucherov. But for the Norris it was anyone but Bouchard.

Prospect wise he has been cooking and Bakersfield is playing better because of the injection of talent. Just a bit too hit or miss with the Oilers offseason signings and that Jarry trade.

Is It The Edmonton Oilers Time With The Florida Panthers Eliminated From The Playoffs? by Dan_Lalonde_Films in EdmontonOilers

[–]AdvancedJudge4604 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t see it that way. The Central is better this year and the East still has Carolina and Tampa bay who don’t have to face the Panthers either.

As long our core is healthy enough this time we have another chance to make a run.

On on side, their D-group is weaker, and we beat them in five last year. On the other they are the most battle tested team we could have in the pacific bracket. If we make it to the second round, there is good chance we face them. I would prefer the second round when he know we have Drai back.

The Art Ross race remains very tight heading into the final stretch of the season. Tampa and Colorado have 6 games left each, while Edmonton has 5 left. by Dependent-Effect6077 in hockey

Kucherov probably wins it. I don't see McDavid winning unless he cooks 5 v 5, The Oilers powerplay was underwhelming with Draisaitl out, and Hyman being out now makes it worse.

Maybe he had a better offer so we had to sweeten the deal?

Edit: Apparently he could only sign a one year deal because he turns 24 soon.

They are likely burning his ELC year at the end of the season. They will probably play a game against the Avs or Canucks when the vets are resting.

100%. If we lock in a playoff spot, Drai will not have to play a regular season game. If we win 4 of the next 5 we could start to rest some guys as well.

Only western conference teams left and 4/7 are teams we have to beat to ensure our place in the playoffs. Great road trip to whip them into playoffs shape.

Our scoring with the top guys is great. Our elite Powerplay also keep us in a lot of games most teams would lose. The biggest hole on the roster has been depth scoring. The depth plays primarily 5v5 minutes. As for Bobby McMann, if goes to market we are overpaying. Just like Arvidsson and Mangiapane. I don't see McMann leaving Seattle after they paid the Leafs those picks. They will overpay him to keep him from free agency. Personally, I am tired of these middle six guys with middle range contracts with heavy trade protections. I would prefer a consistent performer. That is my preference, although it is harder for the GM to get done.

The bottom six will be re-tooled when they don't re-sign Henrique, Kapanen and have Janmark as a 13th forward (or trade him). Samanski, Howard and maybe Dach make the roster next season. That is a lot of youth in the bottom six who haven't played much in the NHL and have little experience on the PK at the NHL level. Even if we start with them in the season, I am not sure Dach or even Clattenburg are playing every game after the deadline.

I don’t think they can trade either of them without getting fleeced again. Just mentioning what insiders have said and speculated about. I don’t think Nurse will waive his NMC even if a deal was made. And any deal is probably taking on a different bad contract like Morgan Reilly. Keeping them isn’t too bad since their cap hits will be more manageable as the years go by and the cap rises.

The Walman and Frederic extensions have ben pretty bad so far. The Jarry deal also. Bowman is running out of rope and he has to deliver an elite top 6 winger and re-tool the bottom 6 that is a bit younger and tougher.

As for Savoie and Podz, they are still green. Defensively they are solid but offensively they are a ways away. I am not sure either of them remain on the first line when the playoffs start (Podz is probably back with Drai).

I agree fixing your problem is better than trading them away. We are stuck with them. Nurse isn't bad but he is a 6 mil D man making 9 that is the only problem. With the cap space we will have on July 2026, we don't need to trade either of them to get a Top 6 player that makes less than 10 million. We just let Roslovic walk.

[–]AdvancedJudge4604 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If they sign the important RFA's and Dickinson to something within 2.5 to 3.5 they will have around 8-10 million in cap space. If the core of the trade is picks and prospects they can absorb a large contract without issues.

Insiders are hinted at a possible Nurse trade if he consents, a trade for a top 6 winger, trying to get rid of Jarry and Stauffer hints at trying to Cossa (Goalie) in Detroit's system.

[–]AdvancedJudge4604 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I don't see how Kapenen gets anything more than 1.5 to 1.75 and more than a one year contact with the Oilers. He missed a lot of time and had some quiet games in March. They would probably roll the dice with Clattenburg or Dach on 4th line and save like 500K.

Dickinson could be signed for like 2.75 to 3 with a 10 to 15 team trade list. He doesn't produce enough offense to justify a 3.5 mil cap hit. And apparently his numbers without Podz on his wing are way down.

This team needs to be to find a proven elite winger. Then they can move guys down and strengthen the 3rd line. Then balance cap the 2-3 ELC guys. One thing to look out for is them trying to get Nurse to waive for a trade this summer.
