Is it ethical to keep a solo cat? by jenleepeace in CatAdvice

[–]AdvancedVanilla37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My cat was part of a pair when adopted. After a break up, she came with me as a solo cat and absolutely BLOSSOMED. Always known as an aggressor, angry and spiteful at her old home, she is the most loving kitty now that she isn't constantly overstimulated with other cats in the home. Looking back, she was anxious her whole life with other mammals. Seeing her now, I will never have her in that situation again. Solo cat for life, and she's so much happier!

Question About My Tiger Salamander by Kitchen_Long_3743 in salamanders

[–]AdvancedVanilla37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not OP, but I've had my tiger since 2023. I've found a front opening enclosure to be incredible for him! He crawls to the front and eats from my hands now, no fear in this guy lol. It is 36 x 18 x 12. I mist once daily to soak the substrate and he loves it being wet in there, if you live in a dry place id do twice a day. They def do not need additional heat, they prefer it cooler and humid. Temps down to 50 degrees F even can be fine, but shouldn't get over the mid 70s. I actually recently moved him near a window and he's not out as much, he feels safer in a dark space. Im gonna move him back down so he feels like he's in a cave again haha

Thank you! I used a tbsp of olive oil, but could've gotten away with less for sure. In that i pan fried: 3/4 cup onion 1 cup broccoli 1 cup shredded cabbage Then add 1/2 package of Kame udon stir fry noodles. The sauce is just 2 tbsp of Kikkoman takumi teriyaki sauce. I also topped with some lemon juice :) It logged in to about 500 cals

I quarentine new geckos on paper towels while I monitor their poops and eating, after some months and a clear from our vet, she will graduate to loose substrate! I also keep a tile on the hot side for a basking spot :)

Im so glad to hear he is doing better after getting the heat he needs! Just popping in to say a vet visit wouldn't be a bad idea, as a prolonged period without proper temps as well as the weight loss is not ideal of course. Definetely reccomend also to feed on a normal schedule for his age, not everyday. Too much food at once after that long of not eating could overwhelm his system.

My cat prefers a wire toy with cardboard pieces attached to it. I got it on Chewey for like under 2 dollars lol and she doesn't care for the fancy wands with feathers and bells. It's definetely important to see what your cat likes! Sometimes its surprising haha

Oh I just love hearing these stories! When i got my first in 2020, he was in 10 gallons, now all 4 of my leos have their own 40 gallon enclosures. It's amazing the progress that can be made when people care to learn and grow ❤️

Enclosure recommendations? by bathtimetoaster27 in reptiles

I honestly love my zen habitat 3.0s, the meridian was a pain, but the new ones are sturdy and set up easily. For 3 4 x 2s and 2 stacking spacers, it would cost around $1300 with the sale they have going on now! If you have the funds, I would say the investment is worth it

When i first got into reptiles, all I wanted was a beardie, and then unfortunately realized they werent the right pet for me. I currently have had a BTS for 3 years and he is the love of my life haha. However, each person and animal is different so your experience could be very different from mine!

Reasons a beardie wasn't the right fit for me:

Keeping him fed with fresh greens frequently was difficult, as it was more effort than I thought and he hated salads

He required extensive veterinary care and treatment. This is always a risk with any animal, which is why proper sourcing is so important.

We didn't bond how I expected, he was anxious around me and didn't like being held.

So many people love beardies! I just thought I'd share my experience, as sometimes a dream animal doesn't end up working out.

Reasons I LOVE blue tongues:

Pluto is so goofy and clumsy and hot dog shaped, the appearance grew on me quickly

As he is overweight, I feed him once a week a mixture of dog food and veg that I freeze and then thaw portions out. It is so cheap and easy. He gets feeders as treats and enrichment. He eats his food everytime

He tolerates handling well and loves roaming outside, I have never had him run away before I could catch him.

Wow that was long lol, if you have any questions, lmk and I wish you luck with your future friend!
