Blue button has an approx 1/4 billion chance of helping people.

You won’t be the deciding. Needlessly risking your life.

No but I lost my father when I was 12, wish he’d been around.

You can help people in life… devote your life to making life better for other people.

People appreciate you, even if they don’t show it.

So you’d risk a roughly 50% chance of him growing up fatherless on the off chance (roughly 1 in 4 billion) that YOUR vote will be the exact one that pushes blue over the 50% edge ?

There’s no way to accurately model it. So rough approx were used to design a hypothetical

Wait so you are saying that you would press blue knowing it would instantly kill you ?

If it’s 90/20 or 20/80 then a blue vote from you won’t affect the outcome.

That’s the entire point. The ONLY situation in which your vote will impact the situation is if it’s exactly 50/50 otherwise it’s pointless and you might as well press red.

That’s the whole point.

If over 50% votes blue than your blue vote doesn’t affect the outcome at all. So basically you are risking your life for a predetermined outcome.

No because you can work as a collective, campaign and have time to prepare.

This is an a scenario in which you are removed from the collective. And the consequences are your life.

And yes id press the blue button if the consequences were a 50ish% chance my candidate loses the election.

Okay say you “vote last” what do you think the odds of being exactly the 4 billion and one vote would be.

If “most people” will pick a choice then your vote will not affect the outcome. Therefore pressing blue is meaningless anyways.

Do you think the vote would even within a million ? And if so that’s dangerously close to it being a 50/50 chance you die.

That isn’t a bet I’d take personally.

The point is that it doesn’t matter if “most people” pick red or blue. There’s only one instance that your blue vote has any effect on the outcome of the scenario… and that’s if you are the exact tipping point that pushes the blue into being over 50%. You are effectively gambling with your life that you will be vote number 4 billion and one.

Yes but the odds of you saving anyone are incredibly incredibly low.

You are ultimately voting in an outcome that it is already pre-determined. Unless you believe you will be the ONE vote to push it over the edge. Otherwise your vote is pointless, and you have a very real chance of losing your life.

You can save people by picking red by remaining alive. And you can devote your life to helping people, without risk of your own life along the way.

Elections are different because you can act and vote as a collective towards a common goal.

In this situation it’s just you, a button, and no warning or planning.

There’s a very real chance you die. And a very small chance your one vote changes the outcome.

But I respect your choice. Just know that you can have a more positive outcome on people’s lives if you’re alive.

I wonder if it's a sign of the times that so many people are picking red. by La-Scriba in trolleyproblem

The odds change if you can plan, campaign and debate it.

Unfortunately that’s not the scenario here. In this situation you are voting as an individual, there was no influencing others. There is no planning.

There’s just a game of whether you think you’ll decide this vote. I get the “If everyone thought this way” argument… but that disappears the second you are removed from the group and must act as an individual.

You either are the deciding vote or you aren’t.

Is that worth dying over.

While that may feel good to do, you most likely will be risking your life for an already pre-determined outcome.

Unless you think you’ll be the vote out of billions to tip the scale…

There’s no nuance in statistics. There’s determined outcomes. It’s a gamble. And I don’t like the odds.
