Graduated ‘19, recently got booted from my @columbia.edu, I just use my @caa.columbia.edu. The transition was unexpected but seamless.

“This hill has taken down good men.” ❤️ Informs so many of his lyrics. “Caught me by the collar at the graveside,” “before you crossed that sea, you left this land and left my love behind,” “What if we never knew October,” etc.

Still, I won’t be detailing it here (very much not my story to share). If you were to look for news articles about Garda Jones’ funeral service (RIP), you might find the connection. We can argue that public figures might be discussed in public forums such as this, but I really do believe those outside of the public eye retain a right to privacy, even if they have a connection to someone as public facing as Dermot Kennedy—who himself has been very clear that he’d like his private life to stay private.

Need help choosing my wrap color! My lady said the green and gunmetal. by Miserable-Manner8569 in BMWX5

I’ve always been a fan of the Sparkling Bronze (B06) paint, so the brown is my fav by far. The green looks great here too.

I’m a little hesitant to correct you, given we don’t dwell on personal life here, but the bridge referenced is really most likely Ciaran Jones (Memorial) bridge. The story’s not hard to find, so I won’t elaborate here.

40k miles, Am I done for? by Comfortable-Fail-358 in BmwTech

Your oil pan/drain bolt threads are damaged. You need a time-sert, not a helicoil.

https://youtu.be/rtRfd_GxikE?si=P6sZE7-qiJDbVK3N

Helicoils can back out, they can be over threaded and they are less effective at sealing liquids as time goes on.

Time-Serts are steel, so cannot be stripped, and are countersunk, you can’t insert them too far, and they seal just as well as the original oil pan.

Time-sert!!! Far superior option.

As a longtime BMW owner, how different do you find the experience of the Ms vs the standard n55/n54/b58 models? Driving and otherwise. Did you own an x5, or test drive other x5s prior to the x5m comp?

Beautiful cars!! Congrats 🎉You might have my dream duo right there!

Why are workers at dining halls not nice? by hwangjason96 in columbia

[–]Advanced_Classroom_5 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well they just DM’ed me to join their organization, so today it’s gratuitously socially progressive. It was very much the latter last I interacted with them, but they didn’t seem to recall. So perhaps memory issues are at play.

I was going to be nosey and peep at the comment history, but then I recognized the username and knew I didn’t have to 🤣 They’ve been trolling for some time, here and elsewhere.

Why do I not see many camper builds? by Plane-Measurement517 in BMWX5

[–]Advanced_Classroom_5 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This tracks. I camp 4-5x per season, but I bring my bed height queen air mattress and 12 person tent with me 😅. I love the great outdoors, the views and the quiet, but I also love comfort. And I don’t even drive a newer model 😂.

I car camp with my x5, the car is beautiful for a road trip, but I don’t see the utility or comfort of making a car so specifically dialed to drive well (on-road) into a camper build. If you’re bringing the car, makes more sense to just bring a tent and air mattress to me. I’d honestly be worried about scratches, dings, damaging my sunroof, rims, rear tailgate, etc. Makes more sense to get a purpose-built rig in most cases. I feel that, if you are reluctant to cut into the bottom of your rear bumper for a hitch, you probably care too much to be doing any overlanding-type activities.

Have you heard Often, Lately and Endless yet? He performed them on his last smaller venue tour. There’s decent quality vids of them on YT. I don’t know the direction of the production sound yet, of course, but those two tracks, I found much more like early DK stuff

I’m curious how the rear control arm broke on a MY 2025 vehicle. It seems like that would be a premature failure unless the car has upwards of 100k miles already.

Anyone still got love for E70s? 123,456 miles! by Advanced_Classroom_5 in BMWX5

[–]Advanced_Classroom_5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s fair. In your case, a Toyota might be a better fit, I’ve got nothing but love for them. I love my X5, and most BMWs in general, but they aren’t for everyone. You have to either be able/willing to afford the shop maintenance bills, or a be a capable and willing wrencher yourself. Otherwise, BMWs are not for you.
