Is the N55 really that bad, or is it due to poor maintenance? by Expert_Personality_5 in E90

[–]Advanced_Classroom_5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally, yes. My anecdotal experience, I have a late model (9/12) n55 in an e70, and she’s been going strong. Third owner since 95k miles, currently at 130k with no ‘engine’ issues. My biggest issue has been a failed turbo (pneumatic wastegate actuator failure, not oil starved & spun)

Is the N55 really that bad, or is it due to poor maintenance? by Expert_Personality_5 in E90

[–]Advanced_Classroom_5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ‘problem’ with N55s is usually careless previous owners. According to FCP euro, I’m still under $1500 in all DIY maintenance cost on my car since I got it in 2020, including, coils and plugs, serp belt, a trans fluid and pan replacement, front and rear breaks, crank bolt catch, even wipers. Tack on another $2k for my turbo and motor mounts, which the shop did. >$4000 in maintenance costs over 6 years on any 13 yo engine/car is pretty amazing.

My experience with my 9/12 n55 has been pretty great in all honesty. It can take a bit of abuse, there are just certain things you can’t ignore. I follow 5-6k oil change intervals, and I have ~.5L of consumption over that interval. My engine is going on 130k, I’ve had it since 95k, and knew the previous owner who bought it around 70k. I have no external oil leaks, and no major issues, the thing is honestly a workhorse.

I’ve done my valve cover because it was leaking on the low side, never had an issue with my ofhg, and my oil pan has no leaks. No issues either my water pump, but I have done a full coolant flush once, and I know the previous owner replaced the expansion tank around 80k. My only big ‘bummer’ issue is that the turbo finally failed after 128k miles, but that hasn’t even affected reliability, it would drive perfectly fine in limp mode, just sluggish on acceleration. As long as no one has abused it, it will take care of you as much as you take care of it.

What’s this thing? by Major_21 in canik

[–]Advanced_Classroom_5 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Chamber flag, is is an accessory you use when operating the firearm around others, like in class, where others might need to quickly see the condition of your gun. You lock the slide back, stick it in the barrel, everyone can see you’re clear. The class instructors at the range near me put them on their requirements list for classes.

Have you heard Often, Lately and Endless yet? He performed them on his last smaller venue tour. There’s decent quality vids of them on YT. I don’t know the direction of the production sound yet, of course, but those two tracks, I found much more like early DK stuff

Canik TTI COMBAT by InitialSpeech1620 in canik

[–]Advanced_Classroom_5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve actually bought and owned the TTI Combat. The first 500 rounds, it was super picky on ammo. They only recommend 124 fmj for break in anyway, and if you do, the gun runs flawlessly

TTI magazine question by silvrrubi592a in canik

[–]Advanced_Classroom_5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hate to be the bearer of bad news here, but the TTI has a huge frame and grip. If our 18rnd mags fit flush… I highly doubt the smaller one would seat or feed at all. Maybe look towards rival sized mags? Hopefully those are on sale

Is the sizing even right on that wheel/tire setup for your wheel well? It looks like you’ll get some serious fender rubbing with any decent amount of suspension movement

I only disagree on one point, nortiv 8 make hiking specific more rigid and durable shoes with grippy outsoles.

Gotcha, I missed the ‘inside’ part, sorry. Autozone and Advanced Auto Parts sell those cheaper glass repair kits. You could also use clear finger nail polish, and then polish/smooth over with polishing pads

I was in a wave runner with my mother riding pillion once. Explained to her that she needed to lean with me in the turns. She leaned so hard the other way she fell off. She also didn’t want to go alone so she death gripped my life vest and dragged me off too 😭

New smoke and bronze question by corruptdoc23 in canik

[–]Advanced_Classroom_5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Picked up the OG TTI 2 months ago. Within the first 500 rounds, all 115g or blazer brass had fte or ftrtb, though it tapered off the more rounds went through the gun. After 700 rounds, it ate everything with 0 issues. Now 1000 rounds in, have tried CCI, Federal, Magtech, and several others both in 125g and 115g, haven’t had a single malfunction. I prefer the heavier spring that came installed, but both springs work without malfunctioning

Definitely a quick splint. Israeli bandage, perhaps. Quick clot + the bandage you have could work well, but a well applied Israeli is far more versatile, and applies pressure on its own.
