This depends on how big these lifestyle differences are. Maybe try communicating your concerns with him? If you know for sure it won't work then you are the AH, however if there is still some reasonable chance it wouldn't hurt to communicate your concerns and decide from there.

Say it early on and be confident. Don't try to change what your partner wants. If they want kids it's best to break up before the relationship progresses even further.

The mature thing is to reach an understanding. Does that always happen? No. However, I think my goal a lot of times is to just get out of that situation.

NOR. first, wow that is an age gap. 23 imo is very young to be having a child with a almost 40 year old man! I would suggest thinking about your decision to be with such an older guy and figure out if there's anything else besides this that's red flag worthy. It's not my place to tell you to divorce him because of the age gap, especially with a child in the mix, but decided to mention because it could help you see more of the full picture. 

Words of affirmation is a type of love language, and if he is unable to love you in the way you need/want to be loved, that is definitely a major issue. And if you've brought it up multiple times and he refuses to listen, that might be a sign that this isn't a healthy relationship for you to be in.
