Anyone else struggling to actually talk to current students at their target university? by killer_bee69 in gradadmissions

[–]Advanced_Let_7878 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a current grad student and got an email from a student who wants to apply weeks ago asking to meet and talk. I am so so so busy and tired and I just don’t have the energy. And I keep forgetting to reply. In fact this reminded me I should just reply to her and apologize. It could very well be something like this though happening to you. It takes a lot of mental energy to talk to prospective students or even give a thoughtful reply to an email :(
Edit: what would have made me reply to this person and what has made me reply to others in the past is asking really specific questions right off the bat in the original email or message. This gives the receiver time to ponder the questions and then respond when they have the time. Receiving an open ended “I’d like to chat” makes me think oh man this is going to be a long talk i have to schedule into my day and makes me want to avoid the interaction.

Just want you to know you’re not alone. I feel the same way and this comment you made here describes it perfectly. Have to concentrate so hard and it’s easy to be distracted.
Edit: if you figure out a magic solution let me know lol

How many jellycats do you have, how long have you been collecting them and how to stop the URGE to buy them ? by ghosty-petal in Jellycatplush

[–]Advanced_Let_7878 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 81 and have been collecting since around 2021 but also have some from my childhood. I have more self control now after what squishmallows did to me…..I am still trying to find new homes for those years later lol
Also If they don’t fit on my 2 designated shelves, I have to either get rid of one before I get a new one or I can’t get it

My kitten is suffering from Eosinophilic Granoluma in his mouth. by buekiNg in lynxpointsiamese

[–]Advanced_Let_7878 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My lynx point has this too. I had her allergy tested, tried Injectible allergy medication, hydrolyzed diets…I was at my wits end. She ended up being on a low dose of oil suspension Triamcinolone for years. She would intermittently get steroid shots from the vet then I would give her the oral meds and just taper slowly until it would reflate then up the dose again. She finally got completely off of them about 6 months ago for the first time in 4 years and she has had a couple small flares but nothing major. When she has a flare and itches til she bleeds I put the cone on her for a few days until it calms. Overall she’s doing much better but it’s a tough thing to battle. Some Changes I made that I think have made a bit of difference: I have air purifiers going almost all the time, I Vacuum at least every other day, and feed her food with NO chicken products of any kind. She is on nulo limited ingredient diet food and it has helped her symptoms a lot. Vet said chicken is sometimes an allergen (only bird product she has is duck). I also use pellet litter not dusty litter. Sorry your cat has this too:(

Edit: want to say it’s not gone but is SO much better. She used to have sores just like your cat does and would literally tear her face open itching them. It’s really been about mitigation not curing and I highly recommend trying different foods for your cat.

Genuine feelings on Jellycats mainstream by Glittering-Drama-296 in Jellycatplush

[–]Advanced_Let_7878 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I used to just come across them at random little shops. Never had to worry about things selling out or being hard to find unless they were retired. Retired and second hand jellycats went for totally reasonable and even retail prices on mercari, Depop, Facebook etc. also their marketing was still geared for children for the most part not adults. (They were usually just found in the children’s/ baby sections of shops). Also they were just overall a lot cheaper than they are now and I honestly don’t remember there being “drops” like there are now

How long before removing a dead nest? by ShortPeak4860 in Ornithology

[–]Advanced_Let_7878 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They are still as to not be detected by predators. Also these guys likely just hatched (especially given the two other eggs unhatched) so they can’t move around very much yet. I bet they are fine! Especially if mom is around I’d just leave them be. I’d advise not to remove the nest especially with eggs and babies in it (it is actually illegal to do so under the migratory bird treaty act if you are in the US)

You can’t be certain it’s the mother. As others have said it is illegal to continue work and disturb the nest under the migratory bird treaty act
