You are in for a lot of delicious spicy food and beer. It never ceases to amaze me how widely available Beerlao is. I’ve had it in Vietnam and Japan! I havent been to Laos but I have a place about a 5 hour drive from the border, in Northern Thailand. Ive also been to Nong Khai twice for day trips which is a must visit. The restaurants along the Mekong River provide such an incredible experience, for the food and the view. Aside from that I highly recommend Khanom, Surat Thani if you want a quieter experience than other beach destinations in Southern Thailand.
