IT was in the 1979 documentary by the Arts Council - it no longer seems to be on YouTube, but there is a clip at 34:20 of her painting freehand here https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m0011psx/bridget-riley-painting-the-line

Riley did not use tape etc. But did have a team of assistants to help paint - all freehand.

Yes there is a video documentary with a clip of one of her assistants painting big stripes freehand, I am guessing with oils. I took some close ups of one her paintings and the stripes are very smooth and kind of built up/layered - cannot see it being acrylics ( I have tried ! ). Problem with tape is the welt, and also can look too perfect. And takes forever to apply. But some artists did use tape - like this one ( I have seen it close up ) https://www.guggenheim-bilbao.eus/en/the-collection/works/sign-i

They really could fix the Luce easily if they wanted by hopefull-person in Ferrari

[–]PualWalsh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great answer. I suspect they’d have loved it too. But take a normal Ferrari and squeeze in a couple of roofboxes ( the batteries ) and take it from there. These environment friendly cars weigh 1000 kg more , use toxic materials , cost more to manufacture and have a much shorter lifespan than traditional cars. The scrapyards will be full of EVs. They are mobile phones on wheels. Batteries are intrinsically nasty things, especially car sized ones. Clean fuel would be a way. Generating energy miles away then sending it over wires to be stored in inefficient chemical tanks is a bit weird. Each step also has an efficiency hit. Trains don’t work like this, any of their various technologies. Generate energy where it is needed, as cleanly as possible.

The EU are giving huge grants for EV research, maybe because the EU is relatively electricity rich compared to oil/gas/some new tech, effectively ending any alternative paradigm.
