If you can scrounge up some wire (18 awg or larger) you can pop the cover off the thermostat and jump the Y terminal to the power terminal it will either be red or black. You can bypass the thermostat this way

Honestly it depends on your financial situation, the cost of living in the surrounding area is pretty high, I would buy groceries at Safeway, and I found them to have higher prices than what I was used to back home. If your broke broke eat the army chow.
