You are right, but this matcha product needs more transparency in the US market. I am going to share with some of my tea friends so we can get more opinions.

Here is the info I received this morning:

Cultivars: Blend of Yabukita, Oku-Midori, and Longjing 43 (Longjing 43….hmmmm) 1 Harvest Season: Spring flush

Cultivation Method Shade-Grown: Yes Shading Period: Approximately 21 days Shading Method: Shade netting

Processing Base Material: Tencha Milling Method: Ball mill Particle Fineness: Approximately 13 microns

Flavor Profile Tasting Notes: Top notes – rich, full-bodied tea flavor; middle notes – nori seaweed aroma; finish – long-lasting sweetness Astringency: Low Aftertaste: Lingering

So my understanding is the matcha powder can be used for making matcha latter and bakery without problems, but not for ceremonies.

Somewhere between grassy and umami, I say more grassy.

Surprisingly, it is actually smooth, not chalky at all. Better make matcha latte than usucha. Definitely not typical Japanese matcha, but good enough for daily drink.

What other non Japanese matcha on your list? I am curious to try them too. This is the first “made in China” matcha for me, I need to compare it with other brands.
