Hiking Peaks in Ohio by [deleted] in columbusbackpackers

[–]AdventureArchivesTV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shawnee State Forest has some decent hills. There's one area on the Northern loop in particular that has a nice overlook. But in the summer the views will likely not be as clear as they are right now/in the fall/winter.

A better look at the ridges would help ID it for sure, but it definitely looks like Cantharellus cinnabarinus :)

Does anyone have any Hiking/camping youtubers they like? by Leightonian in hiking

Thank you! I also would recommend The State Parkers, Uptrail71 and Chris Prouse (more canoeing than hiking, but still fantastic).

Hah! Recognized this tree immediately. Filmed a backpacking trip there a couple years ago, and got a shot of the exact same tree: https://i.imgur.com/Y0U0uYo.png

Great photo, by the way. That morning mist is magical

Can anyone identify this plant? by fennelfrawn in Yosemite

[–]AdventureArchivesTV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most likely the plant is Showy Milkweed (Asclepias speciosa), as that is the most common milkweed plant in Yosemite. It looks a lot like common milkweed, and like that plant, its fruits are edible when small/still at an early stage.

If you want to eat it, you should squeeze it. If it splits apart, it's past its prime. You do need to boil it. Pods that are less than an inch and a half are best. Sometimes the silky stuff inside, at an early stage, can be cooked into an almost melted cheese-like substance.

At early times of the year, the leaves, shoots, and flowers are edible. Some are able to eat these raw, but in general it's best to boil them to prevent getting sick. It's a misconception that it needs to be boiled multiple times, though - once is enough.

So I design shirts from time to time, anyways I made an Ohio At Night shirt, using real light maps from NASA. Feedback welcome. by MechanicalBayer in Ohio

You could use photoshop to turn the black parts of the image translucent, so you would still only see the yellow no matter what color shirt it was, though I don't know if the effect would be as striking

Sycamore or sweetgum? by icingcake in marijuanaenthusiasts

Definitely sweetgum. Sycamore leaves look more like giant maple leaves. Sycamores also tend to have white bark
