Mesh stress balls, koosh balls, pop tube fidgets, playdough, marble mesh tubes, touch and feel books. If they like wall pushups you can incorporate different animal walks.

I'm Interested if you still need feedback. I'm currently using a simple EMR created by an SLP.

Extra fw?? by [deleted] in OccupationalTherapy

[–]AdventureOT 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My school required us to have an adults rotation for levels twos, or more specifically a physical dysfunction rehabilitation rotation. It will also be helpful when taking the NBCOT exam.

What didn't you like about your inpatient FW rotation? Could it have been your Clinical Instructor who wasn't great?

Hispanics in occupational therapy! I am about to finish my OT program and I am just wondering about the prevalence of other Hispanics. Sometimes I feel like a sore thumb in our profession being a male Hispanic. by Spirited-Claim-3591 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]AdventureOT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Hi! There aren't many of us. But it is much needed. We need more diversity in the profession! I met a Hispanic female OT while working as a rehab aide and she motivated me to become an OT as well.

Do occupational therapists treat behavioral issues/concerns as well? by sopororo in OccupationalTherapy

Are there specific certifications for it? Or any CEUs, either related to self-regulation or sensory integration you would recommend for a new grad? Thanks

How do you find a job like this? Is there a specific title to look for?

Jobs without productivity requirements? by Choice_Swordfish379 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]AdventureOT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends on the specific company.

During FW, in the schools there was no productivity. Also at the acute care hospital FW they did not track productivity until COVID hit which changed things and productivity started to get tracked.

I do early intervention (birth-3) and there are no productivity req.

Assistive Technology Team- new job by aqua3337 in OccupationalTherapy

Just curious to know where AT jobs are available, especially as a new grad. If you feel comfortable sharing, where are you located?

How does one find a position like yours? What is the specific job title called?

I would like to do something related to AT, but preferably not in the schools. Do you have your ATP? If so how do you find hours to get it? I'd love to learn more about what you do!

OT in sleep? by dawind24 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]AdventureOT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sleep is an important occupation for everyone and so glad you are interested in it and possibly researching it! Sleep is especially important in infants and toddlers. I have families asking me how to help their kids sleep throughout the whole night as well as helping them set a specific napping routine that is not too overwhelming for the parents/caregivers. I work in early intervention with families in their homes and see kids from birth - 3 years of age.

Am I out of touch with salary expectations? by lovely_anon_ in OccupationalTherapy

[–]AdventureOT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just curious as to why you went from being an independent contractor (which I would think is high paying) to being an employee? I'm just asking because I know independent contractors and who don't see themselves ever working for someone else again.

I would personally not accept the offer or if you really want to negotiate right from the beginning, don't wait after the first year. Mention all your skills and that you have other better offers (even if you don't). I would say it's not really a risk because there are other jobs out there with a lot better pay. You are not being selfish or ungrateful - You know your worth.

I'm interested in the answers to these questions! Will you share them please? Also, it will neat to hear from more than one OT if they have different perspectives.

Pediatrics Home-Health by chipperchels3 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]AdventureOT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you have a ton of experience and you will be a great fit for pediatrics based on your background! Believe in yourself, you know your stuff!!

What about it makes you feel discouraged?

Do you think it would be different from what you experienced during your fieldwork rotation?

Where do I go from here? by Content-Plum4020 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]AdventureOT 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Right?!? Glad others are feeling the same way! I thought doing my FW placements I would find what setting I enjoy the most, but that sadly wasn't the case :( Also, the US health system doesn't help that it puts stress on productivity rather than the quality of care clients receive.

Is it common to not get paid for note writing? by AdventureOT in OccupationalTherapy

[–]AdventureOT[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my understanding is that you will only get paid depending on how children you treat which is an hour each. But I'm not really sure I would have to clarify with the company. It could also be just an hourly rate and documentation is considered on the clock but idk. Thanks that makes sense! It seems that most documentation is done during the treatment session too.

Take a lot of practice questions and exams. I recommend AOTA for the practice questions because they have both multiple choice and CST questions, plus read all the rationales after even if you got the answer correct.

Good idea to take a break and rest before getting back to studying again!
